-4 strength for bein' a girly boy
>>
>>46865179
I've been thinking about this recently. The average human strength is 10, but I've noticed that most men are stronger than that. Likewise, I don't think most women are as low as 6. I propose that the average is 10 because women usually have 8 and men 12; -2 and +2, respectively.
>>
>>46865732
Note that the -4 is not to represent across-the-board strength, but rather the respective maximums.

Hey /tg/, I'm just looking for some general pointers and help for making NPC's in my campaign. Probably playing the least popular edition, 4e, but our party enjoys it.

I'm simply looking for help on how to make enemies on the fly that are adequately strong for my players, without having them made already. We're playing with a fairly erratic group of people, so I don't know how many people will be there each time, so I don't prewrite enemies. They also like to start fights with people I don't expect them to fight, like farmers, or ship captains. Any general advice to make enemies that are strong, and interesting without much notice?

>>
Also pic very unrelated.
>>
Page 42 of the Dungeon Master's Guide has a table of appropriate difficulties and damage ranges. That's essential for doing 4e stuff on the fly. An even more lazy and sneaky trick, however, is to just pick something from the monster manual and call it something else. Just don't let the players know you're doing it.
>>
>>46862813
I was using that, but it still left me feeling unsatisfied. I sometimes change enemies AC and damage mid fight because 1 of my players power games pretty hard, so it makes balancing things very difficult.

Gentlemen, how do we make a good revenant bbeg?

Play him off like a supernatural serial killer whose crimes get increasingly worse. Make the game focus on investigation and let the players unravel exactly who the Revenant was and who he intends to kill

So...Jason Voorhees vs Sherlock Holmes?
>>
>>46862704
That wouldn't be appropiate for D&D, maybe treat the players as kind of the "hard-boiled detective" archetype and let it branch off from there unless the group doesn't care for fighting

Seems like you could justify a lot given the sun, but commonly I'd say.

Light, Fire, Good, Plant/Harvest.

Abstract concepts could be:

-Law (Sun rises and falls every day a set path for all).

-Time (relative to how we measure time, our lives, etc)

-Radiation if you setting matches

There's a few more, but I'm at work. Hope this helps.
>>
>>46861991
Light, fire, sun, death, life, hearth, home, kindness, war, travel, medicine, knowledge, justice...

Basically anything that isn't related to darkness can work. Sun gods can range everything from holy healing light god , justice and knowledge god, and angry fire war god.

Is there any good scifi/cyberpunk game that doesn't have magical shit stuck in or take place in space?

Relax, mate, it's obvious he wants to be spoonfed.
I like indulging faggots with so much information so that they still have to dig through all of it to find relevant things, which is harder than if they just googled for stuff themselves.
If anything, it creates point for discussion by others.

What does /tg/ think of Tak? Could it possibly hold up to these claims?

Tak is an abstract strategy game envisioned by Patrick Rothfuss and designed by James Ernest (of Cheapass Games). They're currently running a kickstarter for it that's well over its goal, and they're supposed to have a retail release in the fall, but you can make a set pretty easily.

It seems to have a surprising amount of depth. I made a set out of some old backgammon pieces and have had fun playing with whoever I can find. It's incredibly quick to teach for the depth it offers, like something like go, but the small amount of pieces required makes it way more portable and thus more practical than carrying around a go set so I can actually see myself playing it.
Anyway, give it a shot and let's talk about it. Is there room in the current board game market for an abstract strategy game? Will anyone care about this game when it comes out?

So what is life like for an average Imperial Joe Citizen?

Is there any writing that goes into life on the worlds of the Imperium of Man?

Not just Hive Worlds, but agarian, forge, paradise, all that good stuff.

What kind of economy do they run off of?

Okay. Think of earth.

Got it? Now imagine a lot more industrial centers, every body is super religious, and once every 100 years, you might get attacked by some petty alien species.

Thats your average modern world. But in reality, there are so many fucking imperial worlds out there it is silly to try and categorize.

Basically, your world can be however you want it so long as:
A) You have one appointed representative of the planet.
B) You have a approved world wide religion based on the Emperor
C) You export what ever the Imperium demands in tithes.

Other than that, fucking anything is possible
>>
>>46860216
>B) You have a approved world wide religion based on the Emperor

I disagree with this one. There can be many religions on one planet so long as they all venerated the Emperor.

Alright folks, here's the deal. You live on a harsh, yet resource-filled planet, where factions keep trying to seize control of the lands, and it's rich materials. Pick a faction, assign it's leader, plan their strategies and their politics. Here, you control your own army (Represented by a color)
Choose your alignment and the duty that comes with it.
The available colours are :
>Light-Blue
>Yellow
>Blue
>Purple
>Lime Green
>White
>Cyan
>Black
>Orange
>Dark Red
>Brown
>Dark Green

All colors have excisting armies and resources. Some already control some territory.

The map is shaped like a rectangle (1m x 23cm).
Technology is already futuristic, space cruisers and airships excist, aswell as tanks and artillery.

If you choose to be on the good side, you will gain a burden. The pink faction. Seemingly helpless civilians, you will be responsible for their safety.

By choosing a negative faction, you can enslave those civilians, seduce them, recruit them or murder them in cold blood. However you wish to deal with your prisoners.

Hey guys,

I've wanted to get started in tabletop roleplaying for a while now. Me and my friends have been talking about how cool it would be. But I don't really know where to get started. What guide do I need to read first? I plan on being a GM with my friends. Could you guys explain to me the basics and post a couple of links?
33 posts and 6 images submitted.
>>
>>46858960
1. Figure out what you want to play.
2. Read the rulebook.
3. Have everyone else read the rulebook.
4. Play.
5. Tweak whatever wasn't fun
6. Play again.

Repeat staps 5 and 6 until everyone is happy/dead.
>>
>>46859344
Alrighty, could you link me the rulebook that you think is the most fun/best?
>>
>>46859431
There is no such thing. It is all up to personal preference.

Decide what how much roleplaying you want, how much wargame you want, how dark and gritty you want it and what kind of world you want.

Once you know that, people should be very happy to suggest systems.
