So Paolo Parente is trying to rebrand Dust... again. What does /tg/think about this? I've heard the game is good, just the creator is an asshole.

How much of your campaign do you leave up to rolling on random table? What are some of the best tables to use?

I mostly need tables to create the personalities of NPCs (villains, traitors, and allies) because I've played with my group for so long they've recognize patterns.

I'm thinking about running a campaign with as much randomly generated content as possible, making it literally as I go along. What can I do to make it seem more proceduraly generated as opposed to "Lolrandumb"

Let's see how often I use them in my game.

As long as we are on the topic of random tables, does anyone know some good systems with random character generation? Right now I have WFRP, Gamma World 7e, and Shadow of the Demon Lord. I know of Traveler, but after character creation I don't like the game that much, and I also know of Palladium, which is basically unplayable but it's character creation is kind of fun for being nuts.

Anyone else know anything, or fan made conversions for randomly rolling characters in existing systems?

The PC's successfully slay the evil Sorcerer in his tower, but his massive military, instead of fleeing in terror and disbanding as predicted, stood firm approached with their generals.

They do not want to disband. They want to fight because fighting is all they know and love and the Sorcerer promised war. They ask to serve the King and help him 'conquer the world'. They will fight if forced to disband.

How does the King respond?

I'm assuming the game is online, because there is no way I'd do this in person, but

I'd play as the most OP blatant power tripping expression of my favorite fetish imaginable. Basically a magical nanny with all the powers of Aladdin's genie. Spankings, punishments, and diapers ahoy! Yes I realize I'm a horrible person and my fetish is awful. Fight me IRL. It wouldn't even be just for the lewds. Mostly just because I'd find it hilarious punishing and condescending to what are surely a bunch of mary sues like they are schoolchildren

SUPERHOT protagonist, maybe with mild overtones of Hotline Miami. Basically a perfect mindless machine of destruction that is controlled by a hivemind and whose body is expendable.

I think that I can make a fun setting around that character - basically, there is an Operator hivemind which is calling random people and uses their minds to hijack other people via phonecalls. They operate perfectly, like killing machines, because hivemind is computing all the actions they take, but they are just as fragile as any other human being, and ultimately expendable.

How do Magic the Gathering players justify 'removal' as a balanced mechanic? Creatures are worthless when you can drop two mana to vaporize basically anything. With combat, there's no way to force somebody to block, but with removal spells you can pick and choose exactly how you want something to die, repeatedly.

'Dies to removal' is a legitimate complaint about the quality of a card, because anything that isn't removal is sub-optimal.

>>
Removal does not help you win, it only helps you not lose.

If you build a deck that turns dudes sideways to win, then you will be able to just win by attrition unless your deck sucks and has a bunch of things that are not dudes to turn sideways.
>>
Counters to removal are plenty and various. Even if a single creature is vulnerable to removal, all you need to do is either force the enemy's hand, deny them the option.
Or just enchant your damn creatures. Hexproof is readily available.

We did a Flash Gordon with the serials filed off sort of short campaign last year in my group. We used Savage Worlds. I forget what extra book(s?) the DM used but I can ask him tomorrow if this thread lasts.

It went really well though and felt/sounded right, and the system didnt get in the way at all. It's my only experience with Savage Worlds though so I can't claim to be an expert.

Fate Accelerated Edition

There's a bunch of nifty space settings for Fate, from hard and gritty to utopian spess magic, but you don't need that complexity. FAE is universal, but it works especially well in a space opera because it depends on what everyone brings to the table.

My space opera isn't vintage, more dark Star Wars sans Force. Could be though, really depends on where the players take it. Space is vast and not empty. Everything has been discovered or invented countless times. Species have evolved in the most fascinating niches. Everything is colorful, exciting, and often overwhelming. Hugely differing scales is a big theme. Technology is functionally magic and merely themed, not explained.

I believe the only thing you only really have to think about is where Earth and humanity stand. Are humans a dominant species? Is there or has there ever been Earth? Does mankind live the frontier life in countless cultural facets on and around countless planets, moons, and asteroids? Or is there no need for casting actors and the universe is filled with and infinite variation of species, few of which are even humanoid. Maybe humans exist, but is being human a central theme for the players, or would they rather go all Henson's Creature Shop with only one John Crichton and no Sebatians? Or not even a John Crichton? Once the players can all agree on that, everything else really falls into place, from Flash Gordon to Planetes.

If you instead want crunch firmly themed with retro space then there's a German Perry Rhodan game based on Midgard rules which are pretty crunchy. You could simply refluff Traveller. There's Cosmic Patrol, Rocket Age, Ringworld, Buck Rogers, Dune (several), Star Frontiers.

If you want to go even more retro there's Forgotten Futures, Space 1889.

Also look at Lady Blackbird.

If you want to make your own there's nothing better to base it on than ORE.

Why would I not just play Hearthstone? Its a digital and watered version of MtG just like Legends professes to be... Except Blizzard have been making games far longer than Bethesda and it's third party developers. Look that the flop that was ESO.

Magic is still far more complex and diverse than Legends has the potential to be.

I always use my real name for PCs because fuck you.

For random NPCs I have a baby book of names and I just flip through it.

I use misspelt names of obscure historical writers, artists, heroes and villains for plot relevant people. Sometimes it relates to their characters, sometimes it's an ironic name, and sometimes I just liked the sound.
