And we're not talking 'oh, you had to kill someone to finish the quest, no more lawful good.'
One of my players ended up in debt to a vampire. She was unable to feed and called in the debt, asking for five people to feed on. She wanted two of them to be virgins.
The player, rather than arguing, went off to the nearest village and dominated person on five children from ages 8 to 18. All of them were good aligned (rolled randomly). She then brought all of them to vampire.
She's a Neutral Good Gnome Illusionist who follows a Lawful Good God (Garl Glittergold), and her rationale for taking them was "I'm nobility, I hate peasants". Now, I don't want to be That DM, but that REALLY doesn't seem to justify abducting children for a vampire to feed on.
And yes, it was clear that these people were good. She stayed the night in one of their homes after disguising herself as a survivor who had been displaced by the civil war ravaging the lands and the NPCs were nothing but kind to her.
Do I punish her character personally, or just have realistic consequences? Also, general alignment thread.

If alignment really is that important to you, the character should probably shift down to LN at least. Any other kinds of punishment depend on the situation, and you know more than any of us in that regard.

The nobility argument is useable, but not for any of the 'good' alligned characters.
Realistic consequences and she should think about her characters' actual allignments.

Define low magic.
If you mean it in terms of very few magic items and few magical enemies, then they can work great. Just be aware that the players will expect to be able to do everything in the PHB and more, and the odds are they will all want to paly as charaters with access to magic. The main thing you will need to emphasise to them is that there will be little or no magic coming in from outside the group. mo friendly wizards guilds who can teach you spells for a standard price, no temples stocked up with clerics who will que up to heal your wounds, and not to expect to find healing potions on every enemy.
The other way to do it is as above, but with the players estricted in their choice of classes. This almost always results in bitching and whining from players who usually play a barbarian, but as soon as they hear it's a low magic campaign want to play a sorcerer. You can sometimes get round this by promising them they can multiclass into magic classes from level 2, and have their first adventure expose them to some form of magic that allows them to break the normal asumptions of the setting.
Either way make sure the players know what the deal is frmo the start, and I strongly sugest spending at least a few hours going through backstories and discussing characters with them, create the charcters as a group. IT can feel like a waste of time, but it's usually worth it in the end.

1. Prep time takes time, time that could be better spent working or studying.
2. While people are free to bring their own materials such as dice or sourcebooks, the group/game organizer must have enough supplies for anyone who does not have their own.
3. Game supplies such as miniatures are not free.
4. Things that are stolen must be replaced.
Copied from a handout I saw posted on a billboard at college, advertising $30 per year for membership. This is crazy, right? Like i'm not in some nonsense dimension?

That's basically pennies a session. If you didn't own the PHB, you'd need almost the entire year's worth of sessions just to justify purchasing that one book.
I'm a forever DM in a small town, though, so what do I know.

That sounds pretty reasonable. Puts them to good use and reduces losses to your own citizens, while at the same time giving the barbarians an outlet for their natural violent urges so they cause less trouble at home.

What sort of magical tools and artifacts would an occult detective employ in his work?
Assume a Victorian-era D&D mid/low-fantasy setting. The character in question is a necromancer (Speak With Dead type, not zombie overlord type) with a couple of levels in Rogue to get that "going where you're not supposed to go smooth talker" build. Basic firearms are available in the setting, any other questions regarding technology level or anything else that could give you a better picture of what items would be suitable, please ask away.
