Have you ever played a game of D&D that were set in a unorthodox age?
Normally, D&D exists in a sort of 1400-1500 european age (without gunpowder).
But the 3.5 Dungeon master guide had rules for gunpowder weapons, bronze and stone age technology, heck it even had some modern and future tech.
So tell me, /tg, how was your game-out-of-time like?
How did it differ from normal d&d?

To the people saying power creep in Yugioh has been getting out of hand, and Magic is just soooo much better: remember that insane period power creep that lasted all the way from Lorwyn to New Phyrexia? Remember how people complained constantly about how broken Planeswalkers were in MtG, just like how people are now complaining about how busted pendulums are in YGO? Yeah, power creep happens. It's how ALL of these companies reboot their card games. Pokemon did the same thing during the Black and White era. People bitched about the EXs constantly too.

Power creep in YGO is completely different than in magic. A few rogue cards aside, MTG has had a fairly underpowered standard the past few rotations. YGO is at a whole other level of bullshit where literally everything has to have a million ways to survive boardwipes/earn value when it dies. It's gotten to the point where they could safely unban Raigeki, a costless one-sided boardwipe. And I say this as someone who deeply loves YGO.

World of Darkness has Wraith and its sister series has Geist.

Both have different themes but similar concepts. Both involve a greater spirit bonding with you as you die, but one is focused on finality and the other is focused on second chances.

Magic needs animal and plant parts. It also works better if you either pick/hunt it yourself or the person who did so hands it over to you with no intermediaries.

Want to cast a fireball? Find some magical spitting flowers and an inflating toad (it's got gas).

1) Their form of magic (or level of obsession) attunes them directly to cosmic forces at the cost of coherent thought. Their minds brim with so much power that they have no room left for language, planning, or the patience to farm. Essentially, the "addled wizard who forgets when lunch is" cranked up to 11.

2) They ascribe to a monastic/questing tradition and wander intentionally, living off the land. They may or may not be looking for sources of mana first and foremost, and simply scrounge whatever necessary food they need along the way.

3) Alternatively, they are immortal/long-lived have no need of food, but simply cook for enjoyment and to maintain their sanity... because 300 years without bacon is a recipe for disaster.

What's a new/poorfag to do /tg/? Warhammer looks hella cool, but GW looks just as jewish. MTG seems affordable enough. One off board games are a little pricey but that could just be me.
I checked 40K General's OP figuring it would have a pastebin with Hot Pro Tips on how to counter GW's nickle and dimeing but the only thing they had was an official FAQ link. Which could obviously tell me to purchase a 65 dollar Canadian box of unassembled unpainted plastic giblets. So I assume 40K fans just take the dicking?

So loved Gravity, recently played Adr1ft and am currently reading Chris Hadfield's autobiography. This got me thinking, how could you make a (vaugly) realistic game taking place in earth orbit?

I mean it seems like there aren't all that many ideas but I'm banking on that just being a side effect of my uncreativity and /tg/ usually surprises me with some crazy original concepts so I figure this is worth a shot.

Some ideas:
> experiment so dangerous it could only be tested in space breaks loose
> Secret mass driver on moon starts getting conflicting commands on whether to stay silent or 'avenge' the UK and the satalite(s) talking to it must be quietly shut down before it makes up it's mind
> Old Soviet satellite thought dead for decades wakes up and starts transmitting
Like I said, I'm not that creative and that fact really gets to me. Thanks in advance to both posters.

You want to look up the manga/anime called "Planetes".
Its about "garbage collector" astronauts trying to clean up the junk in orbit before operation of satellites becomes impossible.

Maybe not enough for a game in and of itself, but an interesting starting point.

Chapter Serf.jpg
343KB, 728x1041px
So how would you go about setting up a Chapter which uses some of their serfs in active combat duty? As in, not just supply side or defending the home base, but actually bringing them in to assist as light infantry.

I'd start it off with having the chapter get its shit rocked. Hard. To the point where it has to take a break from even minor engagements due to very low numbers. Partly to alleviate boredom, partly because for the next few decades the chapter serfs will be their major military force as for even defensive purposes the marines will either be spread far too thin to take advantage of their nature or able to concentrate into only a few small groups which wouldn't be able to adequately defend the necessary territory.

After a while, they begin actually integrating them into regular tactics. First as a necessary thought experiment (If we are attacked, we will need dedicated strategies to take full advantage of our serfs), but they begin to realize that they could, if used properly, help fill in a missing tactical role that the guardsmen wouldn't always be there to fill (if it helps, imagine that they got overwhelmed repeatedly because they outpaced the guardsmen and are just starting to learn their lesson).

From there on, some of the more talented serfs as assigned as roughly the equivalent of men at arms to each squad, kitted out properly to either further the squads goal (stealth troops if assigned to scouts) or designed to fill in weak points (marksmen to defend as counter snipers for close combat troops, meltagun users to keep snipers safe if they're snuck up on). They could also serve to defend and maintain hardpoints on the field while marines strike into enemy territory so they'd be certain of a safe place on the field to regroup at.

Like the idea. Have a similar concept myself, where each imperial guard regiment raised from thier home world had a squad of marines + a company of scouts "tag" along.

Basically the commander of the regimentS are in nominal control but like the ensigns in the British army they rely on the tactical acumen of the veteran sergeant leading the marine component.

The marines themselves are then used as field commanders with the scouts acting as thier Co. Squads (carapace armour isn't used within the chapter, instead before graduating to scout they have to craft thier own power armor under the supervision of the tech marines - know your equipment theory).

While looked upon with suspicion the fact that they only control thier own world (they hand over control of planets to the admin); and tithe regiments (when normally a marine planet wouldn't ) + getting results has led the administration to turn a blind eye to this raising and use of auxiliary forces.

Due to the recruitment and supply of the ig regiments they don't use standard ig vehicles instead using rhinos, whirlwinds and predators. Though the handy lasgun is still the main stay weapon.

Tldr.
Basically play it as imperial guard army with a 9 man space marine squad + capt. And sm vehicles with bs 3.
>>
>>46806512
I kind of like that too. I was thinking that using their serfs (who already at least have to go out with them in ships) would sidestep the issue of them being used as auxiliaries partially since they'd still be dependent on the chapter for resources; the time and money spent on building up their serfs is time and money spent not legion building, and while it does make a significant tactical advantage their serfs would still be just human. Well equipped and possibly given commissar level enhancement, but more useful for keeping a failing chapter afloat than bringing its might to bear against the Imperium.

It is the year 579 on New Earth, nearing the end of the sixth century of civilization’s return to the surface of the planet after the Nibiru cataclysm wiped away societies of the past. Barren and desolate, the world only now begins to reform. Small utopian fringe cities exist between badlands and uncharted wilds on the frontier of a new and unexplored world.

Technology has made leaps forward, with A.I. having gained full sentience and a number of hard-light technologies and plastics being used in place of conventional building supplies. The most revolutionary device, however, is the Null-Core, a device able to project digital items as physical manifestations. Still highly controversial, these devices uphold a data network slowly integrating civilization, allowing for the spread physical AI and creation of necessary building materials for a growing population.

You have just been indoctrinated as a Hunter, one of civilization’s finest. You are licensed to take on threats considered too great for The First Army, often consisting of digital-physical monstrosities created by hackers via Null-Cores or creatures emerging from the badlands or wilds surrounding what few cities exist. Additionally, the growing threat of Dead Zones, highly unstudied areas spreading the disease colloquially known as ‘The Decay’ are an ever-expansive threat that has yet to be fully studied or understood, still stands as a major challenge for the people.

We’re getting quite ahead of ourselves though.
