How do you get over carnivore confusion when worldbuilding?

So, I like to play chess. I was about a 1950-2000 FIDE player. A couple months back, there's this big project at work, and I'm putting in a ton of overtime, don't have time or energy for chess.

Project's finally over. I come back to my old club, start playing again, and get crushed by all the people I used to do about evenly with. I go play some of the weaker guys, the ones I would effortlessly beat, and I'm struggling to go evenly with them. Oh, just a bad night, I guess.

I come back next week, same result. A week later, marginally better, but not really noticeably so results.

I reckon my performances are around 1600-1700, with the occasional better game that's still probably weaker than my average play a few months ago.

I mean, I expected a little rust on my game, but nothing like this. I have no idea how I lost my skills that fast, and it's really been bumming me out, I have trouble even getting back into my practice routines. Anyone have any tips, either for rebuilding strength or for dealing with the blughy feelings.

I'm fairly sure this will be taken as shitposting, but I'm fine with it.
What I'm going to write will be anecdotal, so you're free to prove me wrong and tell me I'm a faggot, but seriously, what's the deal with low fantasy settings and GMs? I play tabletop since I was 12, and I'm now 21, and even though my friends kept on playing 3.5, I wanted to try more systems, more settings, and I explored pretty much everything I could find.
Talking about the GMs, high fantasy ones usually had fine ideas, cool, magic-heavy settings, and maybe not the best plots, but fuck it, it's cool. Sci-fi? You get interesting alien races and technology, and even if it's my personal opinion, it becomes godlike when it's somewhat plausible and justified. Same with cyberpunk and apocalypse settings, that can be gritty, even "grimdark", and still be cool.
That's not the case of low fantasy. Seriously, I had quarrels with every low fantasy enthusiast. Pretty much all you get from them, may it be IRL, on forums, or even there (be it shitposting, trolling, or serious posting), is "woah woah, listen here, we have uncorrect and anachronistic gritty medieval stuff (what's your fucking deal with the droit du seigneur?), political intrigue, a lot of illogical grimdark and peasants dying from plague.
And it's not just that, they always (I repeat, it's anecdotal, so I suppose there are reasonable low fantasy enthusiasts) think that every other setting is full of special snowflakes, mary sues, and badwrongfun. What's their deal with magic? I understand, you don't like it, but it isn't necessary to bash it even in videogames, novels and non-/tg/ related stuff.

I'm sorry if some of you guys like low fantasy and aren't like this, I know that I was probably unlucky, so please, if you can, explain this phenomena to me.

The Dwarves and Elves have been at war for thousands of years, powerful magic against runes, magical nature against industry, stone against wood.

But both sides have begun to fade. Elves are turning into shades as time goes on, slowly passing from the world, while dwarves are slowly turning into stone, returning from the rock from which they came. With both sides fading, they resort to human mercenaries and allies.

Both kingdoms now sport massive human populations living under Elder Race rulers. The Dwarves give fine craftsmanship and technology to their subjects (while still keeping it under -their- control) in exchange for working the fields, performing manual labor, and beefing out the dwarven armies.

The Elven realm is near utopian realms of peace and plenty, with the human populations living in elven realms with magical fields that are easy to harvest, and never seem to lack for food. Gifted humans are taught magic and kept as acolytes by the elven archmages.(portable magical batteries elven mages can draw on). Humans in this realm work to maintain the fields and populate the cities that elves are no longer able to fill. They generally live in special outer districts and perform minor labor and service. In both sides they massively pad out the Elder Race armies for battles.

Where could you take this setting further?
