Ill start with something. One kinda cool idea i had for my space game was this new mineral has been showing up inside asteroids across space from some other galaxy, held within are these blue crystals that emit a strong energy signature. anything they come into contact with becomes supercharged including guns, ships and people.

its a race against the clock for the players to scrounge as much of this stuff up before anyone else, along the way they meet other people after it and can fight and steal it. once they have it they can sell it for big bucks, or use it to amp themselves and get more.

still thinking on what I'm actually going to do endgame, but its just a random idea.

While most of the time playing RPGs is just for fun, I can sink into depressive states and my weekly game has been the only effective cure because I can escape to a fantasy world for a few hours and relieve stress.

I had a 4 hour flight next to a guy who was one Space Hulk in his laptop, and after I showed some curiosity he spent the rest of the flight telling me a bit about everything, the elder gods this, the locust alien thingies that, the emperor this, the orks lmao.
I really don't even know where to get started, everything seems pretty interesting to me.

I like that it's not a complete crapsack world, and people are starting to rebuild, not to mention I love the old 50/60's aesthetics instead of some weird half modern thing.

A good rule of thumb I use for difficulty is to look at the damage system and the enemies you will be using. Figure out what kind of damage the players will need to be sending out in order to bring the thing down and you will be golden.

And if you forgot to factor something in when making the encounter that comes up during the encounter that would make it waaaaaay harder and much more lame then feel free to ignore it.

So ideally I would want to know what my players will be dishing out before I make the encounters. That seems very odd to me. Not that it doesn't make sense, I'm just used to those metrics already being figured out by the game. Plus it requires my players being ready ahead of time. [pic related]

I think I'm going to throw a gaggle of ravenous coyotes at them to kind of get everyones collective dick wet and get a scope of what to expect from monsters that can actually do something.

iirc Savage Worlds dmg is entirely weapon-based so it's easy to get an idea of what they can dish out. Doubly so since your setting is going to be limited to pretty much revolvers, rifles, and shotguns.

Ravenous coyotes sounds like they should work just fine. I'm mostly talking from a bad experience where the GM had us fight a bunch of zombies who had dmg resistance that made my revolver-based gunslinger completely useless.

How about picking which one you like best and settling down with friends for a long-form campaign you can tell tales about for years to come?

I think it's to stop listening to the memes and simply realize that changing systems doesn't really fix any problems, it just replaces them with different ones.

Pick a system you like, and work on what you can within the system. You should know by now what you want in a game better than any designer who's never met you does.

Intimidation being based on charisma and other similar mental stats, while at times jarring due to many physically intimidating characters using those stats as dump stats, is still perfectly reasonable and in fact can be rather amusing. Even at the cost of realism, having small charismatic characters prove to be more intimidating than larger, less charismatic characters leads to interesting scenes.

The solution is always alternative stat skill rolls.

Even Wisdom can be useful for intimidate at times.
