So a friend of mine passed up game yesterday because he was given less than 24 hours' notice that an appointment of his had to be rescheduled. The appointment was to go and get over $400 of computer parts for less than $100 as a one-time opportunity. Our DM got pissed and kicked him out of the group because he was given such short notice, but my friend got short notice as well. I feel the DM overreacted and I'm upset because my friend is enjoyable to game with and now he won't be back.

I guess my question is, obviously it's important to maintain a schedule for gaming, but why would it be reasonable to lose your shit over something another player can't control? Personally, I would pass up game if it meant saving at least $300 for something that provides more stable entertainment than a gaming group which is already unstable, at best.

Is this the first time your friend has short noticed the group? Is your GM usually this grumpy/autistic? OP, was this you?
>>
>>49186910
Did the kicked player regularly miss sessions? Had he previously been warned?

If yes then no foul, this isn't really imho a serious enough reason to cancel at such short notice
>>
>>49187040
Not me, legit someone else. My friend is a bit of a douche but so are all of us in the group. First time for this group. My DM is a bit autistic bit not a sperglord, but I see him getting mad for not showing for even a responsibility.

Heroes are made, not born. There is no more greatness in their seed, than there is in aspiration for heroism. Or drive for revenge. Or rising up to the occasion. Or being brave, when no one else us.
The only blood that makes you great is the blood that spills. But I do not expect fat priests to understand it.

While the idea of all adventurers being promoted to breed seems weird I do like the idea of one super special adventurer from hundreds or thousands of years ago having his descendants traced similarly to sayyids in Islam.

Why does your setting (homebrew or published) have so many "gods for adventurers" with portfolios irrelevant to the common man, and not enough gods that would actually be popular in any civilized society, like gods of fertility, agriculture, and prosperity?

That's a blatant lie, the most important gods and goddesses of my setting are associated with commerce, travel, agriculture, weather and the sun.

/tg/, I want to make a game about rebels taking down a magocracy. If you've read the Bartimaeus trilogy or seen the first season of Korra, you basically know what I've got in mind. It's not gonna be fantasy, I'll be using the tech level of the first half of 20th century. I've got a few questions for you.

1) Since players are muggles, how do I keep their arsenal and abilities interesting? Their enemies will wield all kinds of flashy magic, when they will not.
2) What system do you think I should use? Mutants and Masterminds comes to mind.
3) What do you think of the idea as a whole? Any suggestions for the plot or characters?

>>
>>49185639
1. If tech has reached an industrial revolution/replaceable parts? Guns. Logically guns.
2. Gurps. Very good at running this style if mashup game
3. Make sure the revolution feels natural and not forced. Show the dichotomy, the unfairness, the elitism. Don't talk about it. Demonstrate it. Session 1 should be: "welcome to inequality, population: the pcs"
>>
>>49185639
One advantage they had in Korra was that magic relied on something else (martial arts) which normal people could still learn to counter and also do non-magic versions of themselves. I would recommend thinking about your setting and deciding what the weak point of magic is, of the elements which go into a mage using their powers which is the easiest to neutralize?
>>
>>49186736
I'm thinking PCs will start as normal people, hell, maybe even agents of the regime. A muggle cop, a reporter, a private detective, a courier - then make sure they will be inconvinienced by the magocarcy as much as possible. For example, chief of police suddenly decides that undead will be much better than you at your job, because they don't tire or question orders. You can continue struggling and trying to keep your position, but eventually you either will be replaced, or you'll reach the point where you wish you were. Curfews, raids and random searches and magical surveilance will also be a part of their lives. Goverment may be utterly ruthless, but also incompetent, allowing magical items to fall into criminal hands.
Any other good ways to guide PCs to the path of glorious revolution?

What was the last naval game you played /tg/, either water naval or space naval.

I just finished an awesome game of Victory @ Sea where we re-fought the battle of the denmark straight. After some lucky roles, the Bismark limped home while the Eugen sank below the waves. The Hood would be out of commission for at least 6 months, but the PoW was relatively fine.

Daemons classified as xenos.
>Deathwatch vs Imperials
Imperials who are xeno-lovers. Keep in mind that they are under the command of the Inquisition, who knows for what reason they might use them against other factions inside the Imperium.
>Grey Knights vs Grey Knights
Wild accusations about heresy going out of hand.
>Eldar vs Eldar
Different perspectives on how to do things. Also CWE vs DE vs Exodites.

Different religious perspectives.

>Deathwatch vs Chaos

Daemons attack a Watch Fortress.
Alien sorcerer summons daemons.
Death Watch accidentally unleash daemons while on a mission.

>Deathwatch vs Imperials

The Imperials are xenos sympathisers.
The Imperials have been corrupted or vise versa.

>Grey Knights vs Grey Knights

Training exercise.
One force is a twisted mirror version spawned by Daemon magic.

>Eldar vs Eldar

Craftworlds are pissed at each other.
Different Farseers have different plans in motion and must dispose of the other Eldar to see them come to fruition.

Same as before, substitute Farseers for Shadowseers or Cegorach.

>Tau vs Tau

Farsight Suppoters vs Empire Loyalists.
Some Tau have been corrupted by alien spores.

I've heard talk of a pen and paper Pokemon RPG from time to time here on the board. Is there a consensus on which one is the best? Links to a download or website?

Hoping to GM a game for a group of players who aren't super into crunch, but they would all know the setting.

Pokemon Tabletop United is the better, newer version of Pokemon Tabletop Adventures. As far as I know at one point the PTA writers just kind of jumped ship and PTU was born.

The game is incredibly crunchy, with each character and all of their pokemon having character sheets. If you want something with less bookkeeping you could always try some theater of the mind bullshit with PTU as a base.

It's a mostly-accurate mockery of sci-fi RPGs. Which is why we mostly play them as fantasy with laser-guns.

I'm fine with that. He's write about fiction emulating those games being hackery, but that's ok. Summer reads, or beach reads, are actually supposed to be hackery.

First off, my apologies for blueballing the last thread. Here comes the story I've promised, and then an M-COM/tacticool vs the unknown general.

To those just arriving, the group is M-COM without knowing they're M-COM, they were told they were counter-terrorist. The first session was raiding
>Party is still waiting on evac. It takes hours
>Black airplane picks them up, it can VTOL somehow
>None of them recognise the silhouette
>Docks with plane mid-air, they enter the other plane
>It's air force one
>President Obama, Prime Ministers Trudeau, Turnbull, and May are sitting in an office.
>They're told they're the only squad to survive this kind of contact in the last hundred years
>That means they get their own specialist department
>Lazy writing, but it works.
>Deployed back to the oil platform they fought in, it's been cleaned up during their trip
>Their new staff is setting in, the lead researcher Kevin O'reilly ambushes the JTF 2 and, gets him to sign forum for lab equipment
>JTF2 just spent 500,000 of their 1,200,000 budget without so much as telling the others
>AFSOC goes to mess hall, takes nap in the corner
>Ranger mills around
>AFSOC takes his napping to his new room
>During this time, they have the doctor perform an autopsy of the wizard they shotgunned
>Dr. Gobber, short German man, described the body as human, but the mask burned the face beyond recognition at approximately the time of death.
12 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Hm, my explanation got cut off without my realising it in the OP. The first session was raiding an oil platform turned research outpost. They found all aboard dead, and ended up shotgunning a mysterious figure in black that could vanish into thin air. They retrieved a locked box at the centre of the facility.

>They thank the doctor, ask him to run any more tests he can think of
>Chow time
>AFSOC books it down the hallway to the mess hall with all the speed his training and experience have given him
>Two guards see their commander rushing down the hall, assume something is up, follow suit
>AFSOC bursts into messhall, guards behind him
>"What's the problem, sir?"
>"Boys, it's chow time. Dig in. That's an order!"
>The players, and the two guards (whom AFSOC has named Mike and Ike, real names Johanas and Raquil) eat their dinner
>At this point, I'm making rolls for their science department
>Rolls go well
>Part way through dinner, blood soaked German doctor bursts into room
>"Sirs! Sirs! You have to see ziss!"
>Screw all of you, I love my outrageous German accent
>Gobber rushed them back to the lab
>Has to samples of flesh meticulously cut from the corpse in sealed boxes
>Reaches through rubber gloves, picks up a lighter, lightly singes one
>"Yes doctor, flesh burns"
>"But vait, there's more!" Goes to the other box
>Sets a small pile of wood under sample on fire
>Flesh disintegrates
>"Was that a special kind of wood?"
>"No, zat was corporal Johanas' model airplane"
>>
>Turns out burning witches at the stake is a great idea after all!
>The Doctor explains his idea of using this to test blood samples of everyone around the base
>Party demands he goes first, he happily complies, drawing the sample himself without hesitation.
>Ranger "But Doc, won't it take a while to test everyone on base?"
>"Not at all! I have designed a small oven system zat can run dozens of samples in minutes!"
>AFSOC "Ah you Germans, always.... finding efficient solutions to problems"
>They run the first batch of tests, one vial shows positive
>It's Ike
>Hurried discussion over what to do, the word "summary execution" is thrown around
>Doctor reminisces about how when they found an American spy, they bugged him, followed him to his contacts, then put them all against the Berlin wall and shot them. "Gut times... gut gut times"
>They decide to leave look up Ike's records
>Find he is from and orphanage in Slovenia (The party, being a NATO taskforce, hadn't previously realised Slovenia was part of NATO)
>No special skills, but a string of unusually lucky successes.
>Alarm blares, shit be going down
>A castle in France has caught their attention
>A research team of three was doing some archaeology there, when they went dark
>Police investigated, returned without memories of visiting the castle
>Government has stepped in, ordered the police to put up roadblocks and wait
>It's time to deploy
>Players argue over taking Ike, they decide to.

>Already decided entry points, fire teams, and tactics
>Picture of such attached
>They land just outside the French police line
>JTF2 speaks French, informs me he's walks up to the police line and greets them. Specifies France French, not Quebecois
>"Salut, ce va?"
>"Fuck you GM, I'm not actually speaking French"
>Police let them through the barrier, they deploy to the castle
>As they approach, they see two people standing on the ramparts in blue robes.
>While clearly on guard, they determine that their lookout skills can be rated as "Rent-a-cop" level
>They sneak across, JTF2 glides across so well he almost loses himself.
>AFSOC isn't nearly as skillful, but gets across undetected
>Ranger...
>Ranger tried. His dice weren't with him.
>He forms up on the wall beside AFSOC, just to look up and see the blue robed man staring down at them with a look of confusion.
>AFSOC thinks fast, orders one of his men to take the shot
>Surprise round initiated
>Man misses, AFSOC makes a go himself
>His shotgun is magic, I swear
>Blows the guard's head into tiny pieces with a single hit, also hits a bird flying overhead
>He watches the bird hit the ground "Gentlemen, meat is back on the menu"
>No time to lose, breaching charges set. BOOM
>As they try to enter, they find themselves hitting an invisible wall.
>Except Ike
>Ike gets in,
>Through a comedy of errors, finds out he can pull other people through.
