I'm only saying, the decision went both ways. I reduced the culling time to 40 days and put in a way out which isn't all that expensive.

I personally want it in because it's interesting as to what people would do in that situation. Yes murder and rape exists but I imagine a more colourful scenario. There is also heroism, ingenuity, survival, vengeance and excitement. There aren't armies of veterans waiting for rookies to devour them. Small groups may be inevitable in the culling, but honestly most are only there for themselves. It's every man for himself.

You think the culling is so bad when truly it's monster hunting that would kill the most.

For a medieval-esq fantasy setting? Read some medieval history. And not just some narrative history but some historical analysis.

Also give the players conflicting goals and interests. Torn between a duty to one person (a king, a lord, the head of a family) and duty to another (a religious leader/organisation, an old friend, a secret love).

Double also make sure there are people above and below player characters in the political sphere who want to use them or usurp their position. And don't make those people enemies that can be killed with a sword. Ideally make them close family members and colleagues who they have to work with.

Regardless of whether it takes place in a kingdom or a republic, have something of a (regency) council or senate. Remember that political parties in the Middle Ages didn't exist so there are other interest groups: some senators might be part of a guild, others may represent a certain noble house and yet again others may represent the church or the common man. Encourage the PCs to figure out the ties that connect the senators and the interests that drive them.

Also realize that there is usually no such thing as an absolute support for state/royal interests, as personal interests could very well conflict with them. Just to name an example, let's say there's a war going on and there are three senators, all three with opposing (hidden) opinions on the war. The first, representing a noble house that has produced many great knights and generals, wants a speedy and glorious end to the war (which aligns with the interests of the king). The second, who represents the blacksmith's guild, wants as much profit for himself and his guild which means dragging on the war as long as possible (even if it means cooperating with the enemy). The third, representing the merchant's guild, downright wants the kingdom to lose the war as they hope that the enemy will force the kingdom to loosen their heavy-handed trade restrictions.

And remember: kingdoms are for serfs, republics are for freemen. Don't be a serf.

ML3, spell familiar. If you want to go the choppy route, Disc+Spawn+Seer's Bane is quite deadly, if extremely expensive.

You need somewhere to put them. One of the big issues with Thousand Sons/low unit count armies is that they make target selection easy. Taking a Warherd to hide casters in will help ameliorate that, as would any high-model count mortal ally (Lost and the Damned formation or a detachment of Renegades and Heretics).

Power selection will largely be dependent on what the rest of the army has and what the opponent has. Ectomancy against enemy hordes, Heretek against armor spam. Biomancy is great is melee is likely, and Telepathy is always a good option.

There's a lot that can be done with all the traitor legions. Sadly, there's only so much that can be done with Formations/Detachments, especially when GW decides to play it conservatively. Expect lots of "benefits" that really should be errata (like allowing you to throw all your dice at expanded chaos disciplines) and stuff that doesn't really do much (I hope Night Lords are ready for Fear).

So do you know any good combat systems that reward fighting smart?

I was thinking about it recently. Myself I am 6ft Tall, and like 190 lbs, quite athletic with good muscle bulk and surprising speed for my weight. I am doing boxing currently and I have over 12 years experience with different martial arts (including striking, self defence and some basic groundwork). Within my boxing club I can pretty much take on anybody of similar reach as mine and while there are some people who are obviously better skilled and trained than me and would win even being lighter or shorter, I would still put up a fight. So let's say I am a considerable fighter.
Now I've been thinking let's say I'm facing somebody stronger and bigger than me in a street fight situation and the only way I could possibly win would be to bring some "tools" or use the environment to my advantage. After all I am also a resourceful person. It made me come up with a character idea of a smart fighter. Character with an average physique and good skills who relies on his brains to defeat enemies rather than his brawn or pure trained skill.
How would you handle it in your settings?

It's one of the few all-rounder systems that don't shy away from crunch and meta tactics for its base mechanics. Not that it's faultless mind you, you can go to the SJ forums or gurpsgen if you want to know its flaws.

Overall though, GURPS doesn't just do something most other systems don't, it also does it very well since the people involved in making GURPS were very good at math.

Any first turn kill hand is pretty spicy, but first turn kills with protection are the spiciest. Doomsday, Ritual, LED, Probe, Underground Sea, Lotus Petal, Duress. That's about as magical as I can get. But pretty much any hand that can go off turn 1 I'll jam, unless I know I'm up against a FoW deck.

I've had games where I assembled Thopter Sword on turn 2 with leftover mana to make a few thopters. I was in topdeck mode after that, but I knew that my opponent wasn't packing Daze, Force or Pierce so I went for it.

Been playing her. With 5-6 Griffons. Shit's pretty cash.

I'm backing off from my original "How the fuck did this make it through playtesting" to "Hmm, she's really good, and an incredible noob-stomper, so I'm not sure why it got past playtesting, but I don't think she's really problematic".

I mean, I played the hell out of Mk2 Morv2 and Krueger2, and the more I played them and the more time I spent on theorymachine, the deeper they were and the better they seemed. The more time I spend on 2na, the less I like her.

So, this is where I'm going with her:

You take two Sentry stones, because Mk3 Circle. You place them directly in front of her, maximum AD range, so they're 13" up the board if you're going first. You Strange Growth the stones up, so they're 18" up now. You cast your buffs, and especially Windwall, and you charge an enemy directly across from the stones (which you can actually see either because it's a large base or because you pop a forest on one so it's stealthed and doesn't block line of sight). Since Windwall follows the caster, it stays up when you fail the charge at Una's location, protecting the stones. You run the Griffons forward, so they're 21" up.

Second turn, you Strange Growth the stones up to 23" up, and the farthest possible stickmen can now have their front edge ~30" up, and can thus can spray 38" up, coincidentally the other guy's deployment zone edge. The Griffons can now run 39" up the board, or charge 33.5" up (35.5" with Hunter's Mark, but that's iffy since a marker can only cast it 35" up the board maximally on the second turn).

So, starting with the second time you play *against* 2na, you have some models packed around your caster. If boosted POW 10 sprays can't kill them, well, 2na has to fall back on other plans.

You should get it on mobile and play it there. Unless you have 2-3 people that want to play it with you a lot, then it's worth it to buy all the expansions in paper. They are fun to play individually so don't worry about buying them all at once.

Shitty revolutionaries with no resources or special skills do it all the time. That army of veterans? Isn't stalking YOU, specifically. They're just out for MH blood in general.

Find a good place to lay low and don't do anything to attract attention to yourself. If you don't beat your odds, there is some play involved in the outcome depending on who finds you and what they do.

Intentionally conflating evading a force with stopping it is pretty bad, anon.

Now, if you want to argue that the setting's reached an equilibrium where all of the surviving MH's are millenia old and have perfected the system of finding and neutralizing 100% of the new recruits but they let maybe 1 a year live so God doesn't get angry (most die, some succeed, remember?). Here we run into issues like conflict of philosophy: is it more important to God that the strong win? or that new blood is allowed in to shake up the meta, introduce new kinds of strength, and prevent the hunt from calcifying (and therefor stagnating)?

But in the end, that doesn't matter because of the god's description of the state of things. If he is an unreliable narrator, then all bets are off and he might just be fucking with you anyway. If you choose to move forward with the choices presented, there is some sort of admission involving the integrity of the information presented. Said another way, either you believe there is a game to play and play it, despite uncertainty, or puss out.
