Well would you look at that. Guess you get twice as many rings!
What do you do when the PCs come up with a plan that not only won't work, but it doesn't even make sense, yet they insist that it's brilliant and can't be dissuaded from it?
My current iteration has the players hired to investigate what keeps happening to one very rich merchant's caravans, of whom a bit more than half get attacked; inevitably wiping out the entire group, which is usually large and well armed.
Scattering some clues around town, including that the merchant's 12 year old daughter has seen some suspicious figures skulking around the house, has led them to the rather illogical conclusion that the point of the attacks is to lure the old man out of the house so they can abduct his daughter, for sinister reasons unknown.
The PC plan is to abduct the daughter themselves, and leave enough of a trail that these conspirators will come after them in search of their prize, at which point the PCs can kill them all.
I'm at a loss. I've tried reminding them of several of the flaws in the plan, and they aren't listening. I don't want to railroad. I don't want to expose them to the likely effects of this, since that will almost certainly be a TPK or imprisoning them for most of the rest of their natural lives.
What do you do with thick players?
Guardsmen/other adventurers come to save abducted daughter. Congratulations you are the criminals.
House also gets robbed or whatever. Everyone loses.

I kill them in the most humiliating and degrading way, possibly with description of their torture and execution. In other words, they get a Bad End.

This is where you fail.

What's a good way to run UB zombie tribal
Was thinking of maybe Gisa and Geralt or Grimgrin
what dou you guys think about pic related?
>>50561352
You should be able to play it as your commander
Are there any RPG systems particularly suited to running a mystery campaign?
the classic answer is CoC1890s
>>50561218
What are you looking for that you can't do in something generic like D&D or GURPS?
>>50561226
I'd like to note that the setting I'm going for is not necessarily Victorian. I'm looking for mechanics which assignment the players investigating and attempting to solve a mystery.
I was actually thinking of setting it in the mid 20th century.
RPGs with several effective playstyles? with good progression system? etc.
what are they?
Fantasy Craft
>>50560682
I know a lot of games use a percentile system already so a d100 with great combat that gets bogged down by indecision would be prefect - like Mythras. It could be a solid tactics engine - either on a grid or just using distances like Mordheim - and the combat effects, active defense, location based injury, luck, status effects, fatigue, etc it can be bogged way down with every little detail the system can handle.
The key would be making it fairly typical outside of combat, probably favoring simplified skills to give it a CRPG feel or just making it a pure tactics game and make the out of combat a UI experience.
>>50560755
why make it vanilla outside of combat anon? that's like throwing the baby out with the bath water.
Are Orcs the shittiest race in fantasy? They are never a threat on their own there is always some demon leading them.
In TES the Orcs were literally shitted from a god, so yes.
>>50560136
it depends on the setting...

Do your armor-wearing characters ever take off their armor? To sleep? To relax? To attend fancy parties? To look good? To have sex?

My character doesnt need armor. Her faith and her skill in martial arts defend her better than iron or steel would.

My armor-wearing character only wears the armor for battle or when battle could be imminent. He removes it for sleeping, partying, going to (familiar and safe) markets or shops, attending formal events where armor is not appropriate, and obviously for having sex.

Not going to link the previous travesty of a thread.
Have you used any type of psionic creature in your game recently? How did that go?
1st for all kobold party, give me those ideas!

Kill all furries ending with yourself
Path of Jihad Barbarian
Whilst Raging they project an aura that makes anyone of their own race within 10ft turn against their allies and join the Barbarian's holy crusade
When you score a crit with a melee weapon, you cause an explosion by yelling Allahu Ackbar!!
When your character kills an unarmed character who doesn't share his religion, the Barbarian and 1 ally that shares his religion/class level are sustained by milk & honey from Heaven.

Where on the internet can I find D&D scenarios and campaigns ? (both officials and amateurs)
Here.
>>50558772
I believe I said scenarios and not greentext stories
>>50558916
Here.
So for a little while now soulsborne has been a hot topic it seems. Every time I see a thread I pop in to see if anything interesting comes up.
It never does. It's always the same shit. the same arguing over what system to use, or showing off the same 3 or 4 homebrews. That's great, but not what i want to see.
What I want is something more, something fresh. I want your characters, your ideas, your flavors of hunter workshops and disciplines. Lets actual bring something fresh to the table.
Above all, tell me of your trick weapons. Inspire me and others with your strangest and most interesting combos.
I'll start with what meager art I've dredged up on deviant art. A couple neat ones came up at least.
I really like this one. wouldn't really change anything.
>>50557902
Another good one. I'm not sure I'd run shields, but it could make an interesting off hand weapon. Although as a main hand it might offer some interesting combos with firearms.
>>50557935
Love this one. It would function as the hunters axe, but would scale with skill.
>yfw you out-smart the DM and he gets mad
>>50557192
I'll be perfectly honest, I really enjoy when a player figures a way out of a seemingly unwinnable situation. It shows that they're invested in the game.
Unless you're one of those painfully smug people (given your post, I'd say yes), in which case you eventually trip over your own ego and break your metaphorical nose.

>yfw the DM ignores your clever response and railroads
>>50557271

Are there any good alternatives to Doormaker/the DBC for interdimensional and alternate timeline travel?
>>50556498
The Last Dragonborn is a unique circumstance. For certain he's got the potential to be the most powerful user of the Voice in the world and that his potential strength would greatly outstrip any of the Greybeards given sufficient time and training. In addition to that it's actually debatable whether or not he's "merely" a Dragonborn. It's very possible that he might actually be a Shezzarine given in-game dialogue and a number of events.
For the Last Dragonborn to be BOTH a Dragonborn, blessed by the divine blood of Akatosh, as well as being a Shezzarine would mean that he is seriously one of the most OP figures in Tamrielic history. The only beings who would be stronger than him would be someone who achieves CHIM or mantles a god like the Enatiomorph of Hjalti Early-Beard, Ysmir Wulfharth, and Zurin Arctus did to become Talos.
>>50556963
It's not like anon can't become a Shezzarine.
What are some really cheap wargames to get into? As in, ones that don't cost an arm and a leg to buy an army or two.
>>50556501
The ones that use dollar store army men and free rules
Original Kings of War. It's kind of shit but it's cheap.
Otherwise anything with chinese recasts.
