We spend so much time telling stories about imaginary worlds, sometimes more believable than the stories about the real world. I mean, ever since the dawn of humanity, there always were stories and embellishment and fantasies etc., and the stories were always changing, sometimes making people care more about fantastic worlds rather than their immediate reality.
We have entire industries focused around telling fantastic stories about things that never happened and things that were never meant to happen.
Sometimes I wonder why does humanity spend so much time in a daydream.

Life sucks.
For whatever reason, the human mind is predisposed towards the creation of narratives. Since I'm neither a scientist nor a philosopher, I'll leave the exact reasons why for someone else to articulate.
However, this is partly why I believe narrative meta mechanics are unnecessary in RPG's. The system should provide the cause->effect of actions and reactions within the imagined space and provide a set of consistent rules, which the human mind is generally bad at reproducing with regularity or efficiency, whereas the meat of the "story" and dramatic moments arise organically because of human nature itself and our predisposition towards a satisfying narrative and a good story. IMHO, trying to mechanized that narrative aspect of the game actually detracts from the emergent magic of it.Yes, this is just my opinion.
>>50585696
>Sometimes I wonder why does humanity spend so much time in a daydream.
Here is the really scary part. Reality is objectively also a daydream.
You are sending whatever your senses are telling you through so many filters that the information has little semblance to truth anymore, and then you invent a narrative that ties everything together. Finally you conjure up an illusion of free will, which is actually just another part of the narrative, you rationalizing to yourself why you chose to do the things you are doing.
Imagination and fantasy come so easy to us because we are so used to them from our daily lives.
And to some of us, it's a welcome escape from the dreary narrative that we can't help but make of "reality":
I kinda want to get this mentality out that having a single Riptide is "OP". It's not. They're the Tau's TEQ. It's fair if they can have one if you bring some Termies or a Land Raider. If they bring multiple and in the Wing, then yes that is pretty cheesy.
Also Kroot are shit. They're just expendable meatshields. Having a whole army oriented around them would be incredibly boring. If Tau auxiliaries had the same love that Genestealers then that would be fine.
A "fun" army to play against is something that tries to bring all the neat units into the battle in a combined arms fashion. Not just spamming any one single unit. A good Tau player would know that some well supported fire warrior unit is a cheaper and arguably better source of anti infantry fire power than the other units.
I'm so tired of hearing non Tau players complain about "muh Battlesuits or muh Riptides" They're there in the codex, they have a purpose, just like the FWs.source then any of the battle suits. Just because you get butthurt at the cheesemongers doesn't mean that the other Tau players have to stop using a particular unit. Quit bitching.
Riptides are fine, they are in an army that has neither psychic powers nor real CC units. For optimum strength, it's ruleset requires a gamble for Nova reactor, which has a 1/3 chance to wound the unit every single turn. Also requires the use of markerlights to maximize it's average shooting. I've seen a couple of posts of people saying the 'scour' ML option (ignores cover) is 1 marker light. It's actually 2. Twice as hard to pull off as naysayers claim.
In my experiences of playing with Riptides, the Riptide Wing was undoubtedly the poorest showing of the unit. The double attack option doesn't kill as much as you think it should and not moving a turn, to pull it off, can cost you the game. Also, you generally need to balance out every monstrous/gargantuan creature with some decent amounts of MSU units or you will eventually get worn down/shut down in the later parts of the game. Even in an army of giant robots, MSU/copious wounds still matter.
But please, don't just take my word for it. Any time another whiner about Riptides shows up, clear, empirical evidence is usually the best form of persuasion.
So I present to you a Frontline Gaming video, a supposedly "competitive" list of the Riptide Wing and 2 Stormsurges, getting basically TABLED by Space Marines.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Op5ovJHIE8
Are Riptides too strong? Well, the evidence of this video conclusively proves they aren't.
>>50585698
My nest friend plays tau. I have been able to deal with his riptides in the past. That being said, I don't know that one video is definative evidence. I do alright against them. But I've never actually seen him run a wing, and the hate has to come from somewhere.

I'm restocking my Monsters & Adversaries folder after a disk crash that wiped everything i had. Care to help a fella out?
Fantasy, Sci-fi and anything in between is all fine, as long as it looks like it could put up a fight against a group of PCs

No game is better than a bad one.

Don't run Pathfinder then. If you don't enjoy what you're doing then don't do it.

I guess because if I don't run there won't be a game and if theres no game we probably wouldn't hang out as much.

Can someone please explain to me why the hell this card is seeing fucking Legacy play??? Please tell me its just a meme...
>>50580373
Obviously just the meme card of the week. People try out weird shit in Legacy all the time, le Dack, Nahiri, Ashiok, hell, even complete fucking garbage like Kaya Ghost Assassin and Chandra Flamecaller.
>>50580373
Dack, Nahiri, and Ashiok are great cards-they're just very niche/build-around, much like Tezzeret and Karn. Nissa falls into the pile with the Kayas and 6 Mana Chandras of the world; it's complete fucking garbage.
the +1 is great, the -3 is decent, and the -6 is fantastic and can be used the turn after you slam her down.
the fact that she's 5 mana is a massive downside, but if there's a deck that can reliably make it to 5 mana i don't see why she's so terrible (in that deck)
>mfw people on this board unironically suggested "lovecraftian is more than just tentacles, detective stories, and madness" only a few days ago, when after reading his collected works it becomes apparent that the vast majority of stories is about- monsters with tentacles (mi-go,elder things, dun-witch horror, polyps, yithians, shogoth or however it's spelt, Cthulhu...) , a mystery, and progressive madness concluding in arkham asylum
maybe you genre faggots should actually read his work

Is there any point to multiclassing in 5th edition?
>>50577260
Once you have double attacks from a martial class switching classes is perfectly ok.
Barbarian 5/rogue15 is apparently a powerhouse and later barbarian levels aren't great.
>>50577260
It takes more system mastery than before.
Some combos are better than what a straight class character gets, but the straight classers get the capstones and high level features, that are nice and powerful, and don't lag behind in critical features as they level.
>>50577405
Yeah, and some of the higher level stuff you'll miss out entirely is pretty good.
So /tg/. What's the conflict of your current running game? Who wants what, and what's stopping them from getting it?
Hardmode: What's the most efficient, expedited path to the goal and why isn't it being taken?
Big bad organization wants to kill everyone. They are going about it by killing everyone. Killing everyone is the most expedient way to kill everyone.
>>50576864
Seers of the Throne want to turn the Diamond Orders against the Nameless Orders, to get the former to waste resources fighting a group which is not truly their enemy, and to convince the latter to join with them.
What's stopping them? The discretion of the Guardians of the Veil Councilor suggesting against all overt, direct action, and the actions of the PCs in uncovering and discrediting many of the actions which would otherwise have been laid at the feet of the Nameless.
Most efficient path? Cause a massive magical calamity, and kill Diamond Mages as they struggle to pick up the pieces of the Veil, while planting evidence and modifying memories to convince them it was the Nameless.
Our band wants to stop the plague that has destroyed kingdoms and started wars. We found out it's controlled by a god-fetus thing, so we're gearing up to kill it, though first we gotta learn the particulars on killing a god. Most efficient route is straight to the Thriae to grab some essentials, then straight to the first city it destroyed, as that's where its heart rests. We'd have to wing it on the killing thing, which likely would go very poorly, which is why we aren't doing that. For now, we're delving into ruins that hold clues and gear while our friendly brainiac NPCs decipher the clues we gather.
