I'm considering running a Fate game. Is this a good idea? Is this a retarded idea?
it seems like a very weird system.
It's ok, but you need players on board.
>>50564209
Just try it out if you're not sure. If you don't like it, you don't have to commit. Although in a different way, it's like GURPS in that you need a certain of kind of GMing. But you can do all kinds of games with it that you normally wouldn't be able to do well, like shonen stuff.
Also, Fate Accelerated Edition is something I've even been able to teach to and run with children, so I can confirm that's good. And it even has a pocket mod edition.
>>50564209
What exactly seems weird about it?
I find it merely unconventional and not even in a counter-intuitive way.
If you could remove one rule from 40k, what would you remove?
I would remove "ignores cover' rule due to the amount of AP3 weapons in the game. Troops barley stand a chance anymore.
People die when they are killed.

Like Ridley but less so.
>Setting has catfolk race of brutal barbarians
>One of them has been trying to kill the party
>Every time he gets killed and 'reincarnates' into another catfolk who has just come of age
>They've destroyed three of his nine lives now
>Party only figures it out when he shows up as a female
>Refuse to kill him because his strength score is now abysmal
>Honor demands he (she) not take his (her) own life, must kill the party or die trying
What's the worst they could do to the average party? Highly skilled fighter, suddenly has a strength of 8 and no gear. If he finally gets the party to kill them, he'll 'reincarnate' into a competent body again.
Note : reincarnation process involves jamming in the soul during the coming of age ceremony, so if one knows the tricks, they can 'reincarnate' in under a month.
>>50542451
First, this definitely happened and not at all an excuse to post catgirls and/or -4STR
Second, go adventuring. Either (s)he gets swole enough to take on the party seriously or will die trying.
>>50542451
Grab a finesse weapon?
Why would any member of a race of barbarians capable of completing a rite of adulthood have 8 strength?

I know it's more /v/idya, but DS3 could have been so good, it would only have taken a little tweaking to story and keeping the combat mechanics of DS2. I think the potential is what made it all the worse.
>>50535654
alright here we go again will you be continuing your story Jukebox?
Some other weird tech from the Dead Space setting that might result in some fun hijinks in Mass Effect.
Already mentioned the biggest deal with Shock Point drives not needing Relays for their navigation and propulsion through the cosmos.
Would be funny to see the pre-Issac incursion Andromeda colonization mega vessels roll in 100 years later to already find that galaxy seeded with Shock Pointer prospectors merrily cracking planets with their nightmare ribcage cruisers.
Gravity Plates/Generators would be an interesting power drain but not need Element Zero to attain the same effect.
Stasis fields fall into the same category of localized manipulation of gravity without the need for Eezo. Might provide a nasty surprise for Biotics.
The recycling fabricators of the shop kiosks on Dead Space vessels. At least by Issac's time they could pulp a variety of precious metals into a space suit, ammo or medigel with no problem.
The interconnected nature of the RIG system and the casual cybernetics use by DS citizenry. If memory serves Elle even had her screwdrivered eye replaced by DS3. As compred to the Syd Mead clean lines futurism of Mass Effect.
Also I really want to see how much OUCH a DS stasis field puts on a living being vs the relatively gentle space magic of a biotic's Eezo field.
What are some good add on rules for mao? I'm looking for some really autistic rules
>>50588735
Have you tried the cultural revolution splatbook?
>>50588735
elbows must be on the table. Honestly that rule does wonders for me. you just lean over and set your elbows on the table all casual like like your leaning in to deal, and then you start tossing people cards. They never get it the first time.
>>50588735
Iidentify as faeso my Mao buddies have a set of rules for that.
We also allow putting poker hands onto the pile to speed things along.
Discuss awesome in-setting Food and tasty around the table snacks.
/tg/ is not /ck/, so any recipes exchanged should be geared towards small snacks or other foods that can be eaten around the table, not full on prep for meals.
Have you or your players ever played as a cook/chef? How did they utilize their abilities?

If so, you're fucking set. Sea salt brownies, pirate booty and ready-to-eat edamame are staples, plus seasonal/occasional shit like mochi puffs and leibkuchen.

Depends on the setting. Could be a semi - sentient being that knows how to use basic tools, like a Gorilla.
Y'know, every time I read the core book for an RPG, they always have an example of play. Usually goes like this.
>"Here is an example of play that doesn't get into the rules (we'll leave that for a later chapter) but rather demonstrates roleplaying. The DM is Chris, John is playing Urthden, a human fighter, Giles is a dwarven barbarian, Gwen is an elven ranger, and Billy is playing a human wizard! They've just come to the entrance of Malik Hur, a terrible tomb of a lich that was buried eons ago!
>Chris: The crypt awaits before, a large stone slab of a door taunting you with its immobility.
>Billy: Blast! How shalt we get through this door? King Darod and his Kingdom are depending upon us to retrieve the cure!
>Gwen: Don't worry, I have an idea! Remember earlier when we were interrogating that skeleton? He mentioned that the water moves when the stone strikes it . . .
>John: And that stones move when water touches them! Brilliant! Alright, I'll go and grab some water from that creek that Chris mentioned earlier—"
And on and on in perfect harmony. Who has ever REALLY played a game like that? ITT we write more realistic game session transcripts.
>>50586738
How about this?
>>50586738
Honestly I've always wondered reading the epic retelling of campaigns through greentexts on /tg/ what other people's sessions are really like. Dunno, but it never feels like the ones I play quite live up.
I remember a classic /tg/ thread about this. I hope somebody's got the screencap.

Let's start this general with some bingo.
>>50586199
First for nids
Naturally, new thread just before I post this.
New EC list in progress using the Rapture Battalion. Chaos Lord is the warlord and has the drug artefact. The allied CSM are Crimson Slaughter, so to be a legal allied detachment. Vindi has the Perdus Rift anomaly bringing the current total to 1705.
This list has everything I want except enough points-- doesn't have a full Kakophoni, full Linebreaker squad, or as much psychic support as I'd like. And with only 145 points left all I can really do is add another respectable sorcerer (and give the other one a spell senpai).
Thoughts?
how do i get le good at this game?
Buy more powerful units.
Set up your units so that the pawns don't start off blocking your offense.
Abolish monarchy.
Give your soldiers some basic combat training. Your pawns in particular seem to reach the end of their stamina way too early as their movement rate halves before they have even begun approaching the enemy.
Build proper foundations for your towers. Don't allow them to slide off. Then put your command INSIDE (or on top of) the tower rather than next to it.
Attack the enemy as soon as you have set up your half of the field. Don't wait for the enemy to mobilize.
If all else fails:
Try diplomacy.
I heard pissing on the board works

Study strategy until you realize you need better tactics, then study tactics until you realize you need better strategy. Then study both.
My playgroup, playing d&d5e, have been considering doing a short campaign while main dm is gone for a while. The interesting part about it is that substitute dm wants to allow humanoid monsters to be playable races.
Any opinions on this/experience with this/suggestions for limitations?
Be careful OP, if your DM doesn't handle this properly your game is in immediate danger of evolving out of the 1980's.
>>50584698
right now nobody's put forth ideas on what they want to be. i'm still looking through the monster manual for an idea
>>50584646
Eh, not really.
There was a decent Mystery Dungeon thread on /tg/ a while back about running tabletop games and talking about the characters within them.
I'm still kinda curious; Anyone here play one, how'd it go? I'm thinking of starting one up soon.
bump
>>50584632
I tried to play one but it died after the first session and it was years ago. I remember I was a Phanpy.
GM adapted PTA rules, but it went weird. That's all I recall.

>What'cha playing?
Grixis Delver at the moment, would be playing Control subbing Ancestrals for Vendilion Clique, Murderous Cut and 2x Pia and Kiran Nalaar but funds are a little low right now and I don't think I can get away with only 3 snaps and 2 kommands and no spirebluffs.
>Doing FNM/Some other event this week?
Hopefully, I haven't been able to in a long time thanks to uni and the like
>If you could play any deck, what would it be?
Splinter Twin
>What deck do you hate playing against the most?
Tron and Merfolk
>>50585323
>Tron and Merfolk
Nothing shrifles my dick like Merfolk. Literally the only deck I have absolutely no fun playing against.
>>50585336
People who don't play merfolk always feel this way. To you it's just brain dead aggro right? You have no business losing to it and god forbid it takes a competent pilot
I asked one of my friends about why he played in other people's campaigns since hes a gm also and he said he plays in games because it allows him to find things he likes and feel could be fun in different context (aka inspiration), stress relief, and as a character he can "affect the story without trying to figure out the consequences."
Why do you play in the campaigns of others /tg/? I personally don't like playing in the campaigns of others.
>>50584185
Hmm- It's just different things. I'm an unapologetic writefag, and I gm.
I'd say gm'ing is a little like the pleasure I get from writing, mixed with a little powertripping and a little bit of wonder at seeing other people explore something I made.
Playing ttrps is more like reading a book, or playing a boardgame. A fun social activity, that allows you to get creative and be immersed in a story.
>>50584185
I like playing because I enjoy both sides of the screen and one requires less work
Playing is a different type of fun from running a game
