Lets talk about proper traditional witches/hags/crones/beldams/whatever you want to call them. The typical evil old women making pacts with dark spirits, brewing potions in cauldrons, eating children for lunch, all that good stuff. Have you ever used them in a game? Did you play them straight or did you put your own spin on them? How did the players react?
>>51068703
not yet but I definitely want to, would probably run them in the vein of the ones seen in Hellboy: The Crooked Man
>>51068703
I play them as a fucking player.
It is always amazing.
Illusion magic is fun as hell to screw with people, and giving out blessings and curses whenever you feel like is also great.
Especially blessings that are curses.
And in shadowrun, you can get a van with robotic chicken legs to serve as your baba yaga hut.
>>51068703
I have a witch-type character made up for Vampire, but I'm not sure I'll ever get to use her :(
She's not evil enough to eat babies just for fun and stuff, she's mostly just a grumpy old lady.
Ok, so here' the thing. I usually run session after I've watched some really, really bad anime. The reason is they usually have a pretty exciting premise and when they fail spectacularly I always go "hey, I can do it better".
And recently I've been watching a ton of really bad mecha anime. So I want to run a session about mechas. With people piloting mechas. And focusing on the human drama and all that good shit.
But I am drawing an absolute blank when it comes to finding a good mechanics for this. Battle Tech is obtuse and overly complicated, Cthulu Tech is archaic and Eclipse Phase is... Unique.
What is a good mech rpg guys? Something that actually works and won't drown me in pointless mechanics.
>>51068544
>What is a good mech rpg guys? Something that actually works and won't drown me in pointless mechanics.
Doesn't exist. You can either have a hyper-crunchy system like battletech or Palladium's Robotech, or you can have a rules-light system where the mechs don't really have any differences like Melton Z, or you can have a shit system like CthulhuTech. There aren't any real middle ground choices when it comes to mecha RPGs, for some reason.
>>51068544
Use 4e DnD with your own fluff.
Works out really well for my group SRW campaign.
>>51068544
They don't exist. Just pick a system you know and scale everything up for the mecha, use drama point to keep up the genre bullshit.

So question, in a theoretical setting where the connections your world has to the elemental planes have been cut off, thus negating any magical sources of those elemental attacks, spells, or boosts, and reopening the gates to those planes would mean war with the beings who reside there, what would your plan be to survive the oncoming attack when someone inevitably tries to open the gates?
(I'm aware this question relies on assumptions about how magic works in PF that may or may not be grounded in the reality of the setting, but just work with me here, it makes sense that in much the same way that positive/negative energy draws from their respective planes that elemental magic does the same thing)
>>51067865
Force damage.
>>51067865
Well, surely Resist Energy and the like works, so it just means being unable to add Blasters to your forces, and instead stocking up on the eight or so other general categories of classes.
who else is fucking sick and tired of newbies getting into 40k misunderstanding chaos to the point that they don't see anything wrong with it?

Now that the dust has settled, what's the best player race from Volo's Guide to Monsters?
>>51067744
Yuan-Ti and Firbolg seem the big winners.I really have no idea what I'm talking about, though.
>>51067591
Well, I didn't really expect them to be the stealthiest. Usually someone goes shadow monk or rogue for that, which are both sensible options, but the druid actually does it really well.
Rangers aren't bad for it either.
>>51063365
It'd be best played as the enemy making a threat to use it if the players don't back down or something, rather than out of the blue. I doubt the bad guy wants to have to use a level 9 spellslot either.
>>51067583
Well, yeah. You still have to come up with a reason why only the monk might use whatever powerboost you gave him, maybe because he did something or whatever, but I do believe monks at the #1 trap for disappointing players.
The deal isn't about
>optimizing
or anything, it's just that if you're playing a rather dodgey or bad option then you have to optimize it in some ways to make it good. For example, protector aasimars are honestly probably getting into OP territory, but despite only giving +1 to wis it works well with a sun soul monk because they can fly and avoid being hit, attacking from range, getting rid of monk's main weakness of being forced into melee despite squishiness. If it was a half-orc, you really have to make their ability go the full milage or else it's really a big waste considering monks are already not very versatile.
If you're playing a wizard or bard or something already considered quite strong, you've got a lot more room to take it easy and do suboptimal things without relying on your DM's backup.
have you ever run a campaign based around Hellraiser?
How'd it go and what system did you use?

Swords and Wizardry's Tome of Horrors has stats for some totally-not-Cenobites-you-guys called the N'Gathau.
>The n’gathau are a sadistic and cruel race of extraplanar creatures that
>journey the planes in search of living flesh to further their craft and trade.
>The n’gathau collect the flesh of their enemies, flay and destroy it, and
>reconstruct the tortured in blasphemous likenesses of their former selves.
>Additionally, they sometimes capture the essence of a slain outsider and
>bring it to their native plane where it remains in eternal torture.
>Most horrifying of all, the n’gathau were once humanoids themselves:
>taken by beings known as the Twelve and transformed via disfiguring
>tortures. Living creatures are the n’gathau’s desire, for the dead serve
>no purpose; the n’gathau cannot enjoy the suffering of one that cannot
>scream.
>The average n’gathau is a walking collection of bizarre tortures,
>piercings, chains, flayed skin, and hooks. No two n’gathau are identical
>in their suffering; the pain endured by each is unique.
Even has nice tables to roll on for random ritual mutilations done to create one of them, and what game effects it grants.

Kingdom Death is a company that makes a board game called Monster. That's hard to find in a google search though, so it's often just called Kingdom Death: Monster. It's a monster hunting board game which a campaign where you build up a small settlement of survivors.

I read the FAQ; am I right in assuming I may or may not be able to add expacs in the pledge manager, depending on maths that the team hasn't performed yet?
>>51065270
Yes. There is a chance that that will be the case.
If you had to arm untrained peasants to fight armored fighitng men, are bludgeoning weapons better than spears or blades?
Arm them with farming equipment, what system are you running?
>>51065133
Mostly a hypothetical question. I presume you're saying farming equipment because they'd probably have the most experience in handling them?
>>51065145
And they are abundant wherever peasants are around.
An entire kingdom is on a floating continent, and it was not a natural occurrence for the setting. The nation had the land it was sitting on raised above the clouds.
What are some good reasons to actually do this and spend the effort, magic, and manpower on making an entire country float in the air?
>>51064910
They have a magic waterfall that creates infinite water from nowhere and it would've flooded the kingdom.
>>51064959
Accidental hole torn into the elemental plane of water?
A floating island fortress is basically immune to ground invasion without the aid of flight. If the floating fortress can move, not only can it defend friendly territory, but threaten enemy territory and exert a sphere of influence that a regular military fort couldn't match. And holy shit would it be amazing at that, provided people can easily traverse between the floating island and the ground. You'd be able to house people in an almost perfectly safe environment, and you'd have the advantage of a literal bird's eye view of enemy movements. You could even use it in battle by just shooting arrows over the side.
But it all boils down to logistics. A floating island would either have to sustain itself, meaning it would need to be fuckoff huge in order to have farms enough to feed people, or you'd need a supply train to feed the island which means the advantages of it floating are pretty much nil, making it no different than a regular fortress that can be starved out or otherwise isolated.
If there was a portal or something on the island, or better yet, >>51065026 idea of links to elemental planes, you can solve a lot of these supply issues by simply getting supplies delivered through the portal. There would also be plenty of lulz to be had with an infinite waterfall raining down on enemies.
Building an actual castle on the island would be pretty much useless, unless enemies can somehow fly up or have huge ladders or something. The purpose of a wall is to keep people out, which the empty space of air does for an island like that, so really the only purpose of a wall would be to protect against siege projectiles somehow being launched high enough to land on the island... in which case it would be better to just have wooden structures because those are more easily repaired than a properly fashioned stone wall.
