I believe it's the Imperial Guard through power of deduction. The Imperials won, but the Space Marines were decimated but Boreale survived. The Sisters supposedly killed everyone involved, so it couldn't be them.
>>
>>51062546
I believe the sisters' win implies they released prisoners.
>boreale survived
...what? I knew there were survivors, but I don't think boreale was one of them.

I might be wrong about that bit, I know with all the information the sisters are counted out. I don't remember all of it though.

Are Genestealer Cults the best recent addition to 40k that GW has made?

>not just another flavor of Marines
>old army re-imagined into something new
>actually has new models and thought put into them, instead of just a half assed update so people with their ancient metal models will be somewhat satisfied
>brings new lore to the fluff
>has neat mechanics
>actually pretty powerful in competitive

I think they're pretty solid overall.

Genestealer Cults and Skitarii/AdMech sit at about the same level of quality for me, with basically the same reasons you posted for both. Not only that but the two factions seem to be somewhat immune to the bullshit 'but my race is better than yours' syndrome some of the others' are suffering from right now.

This and Skritali were amazing modern additions
>>
>>51058794

It's just another flavor of Tyranids/Genestealers. I don't know how you can complain about "too many marine rehashes" when they just do another fucking rehash.

They could have done a completely new faction instead, like AdMech or Knights was. As is, GSC is still just a fucking shitty rehash, just like marine shit, just like Harlequins, just like MT, no matter how much you GSCfags like them, you fucking hypocrites.

I'm making a homebrew card game I was hoping some of you could help me make some cards.

the rules of the game (so far)
>each player starts with 20 points of energy and 5 cards
>if you run out of energy you lose
>using a card costs energy (check the cards cost)
>you can play 1 card a turn
>you gain 2 energy a turn. you can use 1 point of energy to aquire 3 cards
>if you run out of cards you have to draw 3 cards

the game runs on 4 types
>fire
>grass
>water
>metal

type has no real effect other then its relatoinship to card effects.

heres some I've made so that you get a rough idea of what kind of cards I'm looking for.

try not to make flat damage cards.

How the fuck does it work? What exactly are the limits? and why do the tyranids still lose to factions that they've beaten and adapted to before? And how the fuck do tyranids counter shit like necrons and chaos, that aren't biological at all?

The ones who lose don't survive to adapt.

But really it's just a Xenomorph ripoff designed to help sell models.
>>
>>51057186
Space Magic and hand waving. What the writer decides they ought to be. The ones that adapted didn't get into contact with the ones that lost or the race adapted faster. They don't, or with brute force.
>>
>>51057186
>How the fuck does it work?

The Hive Mind can change the genetic blueprints of new Tyranids before they're spawned, considering how vast of an 'entity' it is and the amount of information it has on biological structure it's pretty trivial for it to change an existing bioform or create a new one to suit the situation.

>What exactly are the limits?

Don't know, we know that the Hive Mind can create entirely new forms based off of previously assimilated races, but it's never gone in-depth as to how adaptable it actually is.

> and why do the tyranids still lose to factions that they've beaten and adapted to before?

It's not plot armour, it's minor realistic adaptation, Tyranids that have fought Tau aren't immune to Tau weapons, their carapace is just slightly better at dealing with plasma and they're probably weaker but faster. Remember, adaptation isn't some magic thing where you can just adapt to fight every race at once, it's specialisation, and specialising too much is a military error in calculation.

>And how the fuck do tyranids counter shit like necrons and chaos, that aren't biological at all?

You don't need the opponent's genetic structure to adapt to them, it just helps. That being said Tyranids actually have a hard time adapting to Necron weapons and technology because it just screws with practical designs so hard due to being bullshit-tier, meanwhile it depends on what kind of Daemons/Chaos they're fighting (for example, they may start creating more smaller synapse creatures to strengthen the synapse web and Shadow, preventing the Daemons from abusing gaps and clashes as easily.)

Hi guys, I moved to London from Aus about a year ago and haven't seen a single game store outside of central London. I live over near Wembley and have been looking recently on the internet for a game store to play some pen+paper. I'll do my new Genestealer Cult. Recently came up with their fluff, so I'm anxious to see what people think of it.

>The Heralds of the Tyrant are a strange Genestealer Cult. Rather than be based upon a planet, hiding in secret in the hidden passageways and under-hives, the Heralds seized control of a Rogue Trader ship they have renamed the "Tyrant's Beacon." Seeing it as their sacred duty to lead their gods to as many planets as possible, and to spread the faith as wide as possible, the Heralds now act as pirates, raiding ships to infect the passengers, creating new cults once those ships reach their destination. This has led the Heralds to be a very wide spread cult, with small sects in almost all segmentums. Further complicating matters, whenever the Tyrant's Beacon finds a Hive Fleet Tendril, it will draw its attention and begin leading it towards any nearby planets, bringing doom to worlds that might not have had Genestealer Cults at all. And while the Heralds regret they cannot stay to join in overthrowing the human population there, they know they have a sacred duty, and once the final planet in the Milky Way Galaxy is overflowing with Tyranids, they will finally be able to meet their gods and earn their ascension after giving the same gift to so many others.

Got a nice Scion army I was fluffing up a bit actually

>61st Galactic Griffons
>Basically have Ultramarine blue colors with gold trim
>Specialize in ship to ship boarding and orbital drop situations
>Compared to to most Scion regiments the 66th make use of Ogryns and Rattlings in their ranks
>Bullgryn bodyguard for the Tempestor Prime while the rattlings provide sniper support
>Some rattlings even operate taurox primes
>Said rattlings hated the tread wheels on the Taurox so they pulled a few strings to get their transports upgraded chassis and tires
>This entire situation didnt go right with the local Skirtiali detachment in the sector
>Even with complaints the rattings and storm troopers actually prefer the tires
>a popular rumor amongst the soldiers is the question to whether or not one of the Scion sergeants is a Catachan
>The commissars dismiss this of course but some soldiers have rumored to seeing a bright red bandanna under the sergeants beret
>Currently the 61st is in a campaign agasint Tau and Eldar in a far off sector
>In their mission agasint the Tau Scions and their commissars board Tauroxs with Valkyrie support and crash right into Tau settlements
>Order is to cause chaos and kill all xenos on sight
>Currently however the situation has blown out of control with the discovery of a genestealer hiding amidst the Tau
>Eldar are currently moving in with the Tau calling for reinforcements but there is a possibility that a full on tyranid invasion is on its way

Not the best but I wanted to base this around the local armies that I am currently fighting at my FLGS

R8/H8
>Spending centuries in the outskirt slums of Commorragh, Archon Andrhea Mastris staved off the hunger by making herself useful, innovating and creating new and better tools, contraptions, and drugs to elicit more powerful and intense sensations of both agony and bliss. Eventually, she rose to power, gaining her own Kabal, the Kabal of the Corrupted Life. Her organization came to be known for the quality of her instruments, and it wasn't long before she caught the attention of Aestra Khromys, Mistress of the Order of the Obsidian Rose. Rather than enter into a potentially bloody gang war, Andrhea suggested a business partnership, and for now, she works as a lieutenant under her, leading her own raids in her mistress' name. On the streets of Commorragh, the Corrupted Life is now synonymous with highs thought lost since the Fall, but in realspace, very few worlds that have felt the touch of her gleaming, armored foot have ever been the same, for despite all her beauty, the yellow sails of her raiders spell certain, painful doom for her victims...after all, she needs SOMEONE to be her guinea pigs...

Hey /tg/, I'm about to buy Arkham Horror, my very first tradiotional game ever. So apparently there is a side to traditional games known as putting sleeves on the cards. And then there's even double sleeving, so what do you recommend for Arkham Horror? Sleeving, double sleeving, none at all?
19 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
>>51055067
Arkham Horror is a good game, but it is not a good game to start with.

You should not sleeve your games until you find out if you are going to play it enough to matter. It increases the cost, bulk, weight of the game a good deal. Really, it isn't needed unless you are going to play that game often.

Eldritch Horror is a bit more accessible game that is very much like Arkham Horror. I would suggest going with that first. However, it is also a very heavy game and a poor first choice in my opinion.

There is a board game general up, try asking over there.
>>
>>51055067
Just use a single sleeve. You can get Fantasy Flight sleeves for $3 for a pack of 50 at your LGS or Mayday sleeves for $2.50 for a pack of 100 but they aren't manufactured as well and are rather thin.
>>51055226
I always sleeve right away. They don't cost much and you can always just take the sleeves off if you don't like them and then use them for another game.
>>
>>51055292
To add onto this. I use fantasy flight mostly myself but I have used Mayday before, they aren't nearly as nice.

>See interesting LARP event
>Good setting and rules, experienced organizers with great reputation and big amount of players
>Get hyped and immediately start thinking about which faction to join, what character to play, what costume to make
>Then remember your health problems that will make playing LARP troublesome
>There are plenty of space for non-combat roles, but all organisation, preparation, transporting and pre-game communication will drain you even before you'll arrive at the location of event
>Then there is also construction of in-game location and actual process of playing the game
>Combining with the fact, that LARP community in your city is gone, most likely you will have to handle most of the preparations alone
>"Looks like I still have stick with the tabletop."
Every year I have to go through this.
I used to play LARP and train with local fencing group, but my health doesn't allow me anymore. I'm not disabled or obese, but since after I suffered a nasty illness, long physical and nervous stress affects me more than a normal human. For example, I had to go on the trip to the large city last summer in order to settle some matters. It took three days, and by the end I was completely drained and had to recover for about two months.
If there are any European LARP players, I want to receive advice. How can I participate in LARP without pushing myself over the edge in my situation?

Start prepping a long time in advance, as to not have any of the mental strain of the 2 weeks prior "SHIT I GOTTA FINISH HALF MY COSTUME".

Besides that I'd say play non-combat roles as you said, actually look into a merchant caste on the event. If it ain't there yet all the beter, because this gives you a monopoly and a pretty cool much-needed RP function in camp. Heck you can do all kinds of cool stuff, from actual bed-selling inn-keeper (does need a whole lot of stuff but we had it) to older noble on a retraite from his last campaign. Here solely to drink wine and poke fun at the young'uns.
>>
>>51054650
Play a blacksmith or other craftsman. Set up a tent in the middle of town somewhere, get a counter and a comfortable chair, and ask the crew if you can start the game with some merchandise and ores. You can comfortably sit in your chair all day without anyone batting an eye, and more importantly without fear of being sidelined. Whenever things become a bit too much, just head inside to 'repair an item' and take a nap.

Now, setting all that up pre-game and tearing it down post-game might prove a little troublesome. Do you maybe have some friends from your old larping time that could help?
>>
>>51054650

Just sounds like you're fat and lazy desu

Hey /tg/,

I like the aesthetics of settings that have grown up around or on top of the giant, sprawling ruins left behind by ancient precursor civilizations. I know, though, that aesthetics are sometimes the only reason that these ruins exist, and that they and their builders have no greater lore or plot significance to justify their inclusion in their settings.

What I'd like to do is have a thread where we can brainstorm various ways that giant, sprawling ruins and ancient precursor civilizations can be worked into the lore and plot of a setting so that they're more than just set-dressing. How do they tie into the history of the setting, and how do they continue to affect the lives of its people? How are they important?

Have something I've been thinking of to start:

>Giants, the first people of the world, used to be a proud race of prophet-kings and warrior-poets, building giant cities of stone of incredible size and sophistication.

>They spread across the world, taming what they cared to and conquering the rest, but in time there were no lands left to explore and no more challenges to be had.

>One philosopher-king came to the decision that there was nothing left for them to do but make war against the Gods themselves, and slowly the other Giants agreed.

>Together they began to build a tower so tall that it would reach up to the Heavens where the Gods dwelt and would allow the Giants to bring war to their creators.

>Displeased by the Giants' hubris, the Gods smote their tower and their cities and cursed their once proud race to lead a primitive existence of brutish ignorance.

I like it! Solving the mystery of where the ruins came from would be a great plot line
