What was it that personally got you into /tg/ related things
Just a comfy thread talking about past experience and happy memories
My dad bought himself me and my brothers a shit ton of magic cards which led to the collection i have now. I didnt get into D&D till /tg/ screencaps got popular so thanks tg

I originally thought it was the usual things. A sixth edition MtG starter, the Bretonnia vs Lizardmen Warhammer Fantasy starter box and a copy of Heroquest, giving me direct routes to all the main sorts of tabletop gaming.

However, I discovered something much, much older than that which was surprising and delightful. We had a really old, rugged cassette player with a shitty little attached microphone. My brother and I mostly used it for playing stuff our parents taped off the radio or for recording various silly things, but a selection of old tapes reminded me of my first experience ever doing an RPG style collaborative narrative.

It was with my dad, on that stupid little recorder. Him telling us a story with my brother and I as the main characters, us making stupid jokes or mentioning our favourite TV shows (Power Rangers came up a lot), and my dad working with it to create a story, leading us and using what we gave him to make something really unique.

My dad never knew about or was into D&D or any of that, but somehow his simple little storytelling game with his sons translated into a lifelong love of roleplaying for me, and the memory of those simple, silly little tapes brings me so much joy.

Anime club folks that were raised on the stuff invited me to join in high school. Messed around in a game with a barbarian and a druid+wolf companion and got hooked, fell into the abyss of older editions, then other RPG systems. Technically I played YGO TCG and MTG, but I didn't understand it as a hobby outside itself until then.

Really technically Pokemon TCG collections in elementary school might count but likewise it was Contact rather than Immersion.

Haha lol wtf. Whether you're playing modern, standard, block constructed, or commander, it's never okay to netdeck. Get of your high horse, you little pathetic 2 year old SJW swine. DesolatorMagic cares about his fans, you only care about the money, cheating, and speculating on cards. As Des pointed out, you baby netdeckers should all go cheat at some other LGS, and leave us who actually respect this game alone. Did I mention how expensive it is for you losers to netdeck? I made a mono white lifegain modern deck using the card Peace of Mind and Lich's Mirror, it costs 20 dollars and wins every game agaist so called tier 1 netdecks and can only lose to itself. Have fun with your boring decks, mine are the true ways to play Magic.

How do you guys deal with politics getting brought up when your in a game. My group is mostly liberal which isn't a problem they're great people but they bring up politics all the time and get mad when i give a differing opinion, normally i would try to ignore it but then they ask for my opinion anyway.

I point out that we are playing (insert system here) and not Diplomacy.

So the grotesque over-investment of energy into national politics, a subject over which we possess both minimal knowledge and control, was mostly a result of the cloying isolationist and self-segratory nature of internet echo chambers, and is not to be reflective of our daily lives, especially since, this far, the only actual usage of the unmentionable beast's pending executive authority was to admonish his party members on their priority of dismantling the already toothless ethics committee, a tweet which apparently carried enough weight to make them *stop*, perhaps we could just wait until something happens before we crassly speculate with wild hyperbole?

And would it kill you to use a fucking coaster?

/tg/, wanna help me come up with a chart o' devil-things?

I have a fiend-pact warlock whose patron- well, her case worker- is an erinyes, a fallen angel. I'm trying to compose a modest little chart of "what the bosslady is up to when contacted". Primarily, to serve as a few words or few sentences of scene and acting direction for me; the attitude and rude scene setting of fiend when the warlock calls upon her pact.

I'm going to write up the rough outline I made while screwing off at work, but I'm not satisfied with it, so I'm hoping you'll tell me why it sucks.

>1 The distraction of the warlock's contact has caused something bad enough to get the erinyes punished/in trouble/ill consequences. Shit rolls downhill.
>2 In the midst of being punished or humiliated; furious that Warlock has witnessed.
>3 Freshly injured. In pain, paranoid, suspicious of Warlock, who may be trying to take advantage of her weakness.
>4 Interrupted during a little cathartic torture of some unfortunates. Irritated by the interruption, willing to achieve catharsis with Warlock instead.
>5 Shortly after one of the above; enough to recover or regain control of her emotions. Likely poor mood though.
>6 Engaged in battle with the Divine. (Distracted, weird subtext for a fallen angel, etc)
>7 Battle with demons. (Erinyes are martially inclined. Distracted, cold contempt, fury[not directed at warlock])
>8 Battle with chaos (Lawful, evil, etc.)
>9 Battle with devils. (backstabbing, politicking, infernal machinations)
>10 Ambivalent (neutral)

>11 Researching/documenting secrets (Warlock's patron, who Erinyes serves, is the infernal duke of secrets and lore) Business-like, dutiful, willing to interrupt her efforts to deal with Warlock.)
>12 Dealing with infernal Bureaucracy. Cool, able to spare attention for Warlock.
>13 Infernal paperwork. Irate, frustrated, grateful for interruption. Tolerant of Warlock.
>14 Infernal court proceedings, of the legal or royal kind. Politics, distraction, willingness to explain what's going on to Warlock because talking about what's happening is less demanding on her attention than answering her questions.
>15 Dealing with Mortals; summoning casters or cultists. The former particularly is ripe for use as a side thing later in game (whack this mortal who was sassing me last time he summoned me). Businesslike, slightly embarrassed, annoyed, defensive.
>16 Dealing with underlings. Possibly making unsubtle examples of them, then solicitously inquiring how warlock is doing, saccharine-sweet.
>17 I can't even read what I wrote, but it finishes, 'Pleasantly diligent, courteous.'. Needs work.
>18 Fond. May have been just about to contact Warlock. Presumably, at home, or office, or what have you with the 'Do Not Disturb' light on, ready and receptive to contact.
>19 Recently rewarded, successful, or victorious. Excellent mood, convivial and pleasant.
>20 Excellent mood, recently rewarded or victorious on something big. Celebratory, pleased, possibly intoxicated.

Erinyes ARE combat-oriented and quite capable, but also fairly 'human' looking, social, and capable of serving as good PR with mortals (or in this case, handler). I had 'watching/engaging in plots and schemes' suggested to me, and I might replace 17 with that. I think the string of 'battle' ones are boring; at least one might get replaced with 'campaigning'; out in the field but not actually fighting.

What else do you think is necessary when you have a devil on mental speed-dial? Also: post devils.

A scenario in my mind is that humanity makes it into the stars with genuine human ingenuity and grit while the other races did it via magic/godly intervention. They have "gods" due to magic bs and said gods adhere to the alignment scale.

Scenario:
>Humanity is extinct. How or why does not matter.

>What does matter is that humanity once had a gigantic interstellar empire stretching across the galaxy. It has touched almost every single major star system with its hands and shaped it to its needs. Alien races that fought against it were defeated. The dangerous ones eliminated, the useful ones rebuilt into powerful allies or made subservient. Humanity uplifted primitive races and made them part of the empire. Humanity used their boundless knowledge to create races, organic or inorganic and also made them part of the empire. Whole planets were remade to suit their needs and their subjects. Gigantic metal rings built around planets, stations of immense size and power, etc

>When humanity became extinct, all the other races swallowed up their legacy. When peaceful partition was not an option, open war became the norm. The other races declared themselves the successor of Mankind while others declared Man's achievements to be the hard work sponged off others. In today's galaxy Humanity is revered across the galaxy as the perfect race. Beautiful, intelligent and creative. Some extremists worship them as the god-race.

>Thus the whole galaxy is now in a struggle of epic proportions. Armed conflict, proxy warfare, covert operations, and strife is the new normal.
89 posts and 27 images submitted.
>>
cont:

So I have broken down the races into a few categories

>Usurpers: Alien races that have no relation to man nor interacted in the past. Outsiders.
>Successors: Races created by man. Organic and often human-looking with significant differences. Pic related.
>Manufactured: Machine races created by man to serve as intelligent workers or slaves. Machines tend to exhibit the extremes views of humans with some outright hating them or worshiping them.
>Uplifted: Alien races uplifted culturally or genetically by humans
>Others: Alien races that interacted with humanity in the past. Many are either allies or defeated by mankind in the past.
>Guardians: organic or inorganic races that view humanity's achievements to be sacred and thus to be protected from misuse.

So /tg/, what are the races that might inhabit this galaxy? Technology?

And it is viable to start with 2 starter boxes, the imperial service starter and the wu ming box will give you 10 orders and 300 points.

You will have to check the army builder to see if you can have something similar in other armies.

Ho-le-SHIT guys. I dun GOOFED. I was talking to my friends who only vaguely know about 40k, about this that and the other thing and how the universe is pretty much a decent ripoff mismash of the 80s. Somehow while talking about our last dnd session, they came to the conclusion that I should run a rogue trader campaign.

Here's the thing: I know the lore, and played the tabletop for 20 years, but I dont even own the book, and somehow am expected to run a game next sunday. Tried to say I dont even have the book, but all of them chipped in and bought the book on the spot.

How similar is it to tabletop rules?

If you were talking to someone, say on the internet, and did not want to waste a lot of fucking time, what are the 3 things you wish you knew about the game when you start/mistakes you made.

TLDR any advice on how to run rogue trader appreciated. Also how it work?

>>51215741
1. Not really similar to the tabletop at all.

2. Your friends bought you an Out of Print book that goes on eBay for several hundred because retards give them those prices? Be grateful, anon.

3. It's a D100 roll under system, which means that you roll 2d10 and try to get a value that is lower than your stat. Most characters will have stats between 20-40 at the beginning of character creation.

4. Ask the 40k RPG general, they know more about Rogue Trader than I, as I own Only War.
