Thoughts on 13th Age? I've heard good things, particularly that the monk is crazy awesome to play.
It's alright, one of my DM buddies really likes it and ports stuff like the Escalation Die to other systems all the time.
Played at GENCON. Like combat better than 5e. Like the setting better than FR. No idea how to convert players to it
>>51201312
Pretty good imo. Not as fun combat as 4e, but beats the shit out of 5e in that department still. The icons system makes the kind of settings it can be used for limited on some level, and there's some mathematically stupid shit, but the good still outweighs the bad by a lot.
Is this game any good?
Has any one ever played it?
Got a good story you could share?
Bumpity. I also am interested, because handbook is actually interested but I don't really see a comepelling plot that could be made out of this.
>>51199559
It's extremely good, one of my favorite games out there, but it is kind of difficult to get a hang of. The rules are simple but the setting draws from a lot of concepts that are gonna be almost entirely unfamiliar to you unless you're a fan of obscure occult trivia and new age mysticism. It's a game that takes a whole lot of creativity both to play and run properly but it's such a cool and weird game that reading the books is entirely worth your time.
Anybody have any thoughts on how the 3e books are shaping up? I've only skimmed through them so far but it looks like there's some interesting stuff in store.
>>51199559
Oh well, not like I'm letting the annual UA thread die like this.
Storytime!!
>be gm for an UA campaign
>set in Rome, present day
>all characters are completely normal people, except one which is a catholic exorcist
>inquisitor is here to investigate an homicide, probable demonic involvement
>girl was found in one of rome's many Villa's (walled parcs, ex-noble residences), devoured to the bone, marrown gnawed away etc.
>victim was a gispy, police though she was killed and then the body eaten by rats
>second player, made a college art student, specialized in medieval art
>third player was a pathologist
>Scene 1
>same villa in which the murder occured
>player2 (college student) is running in the villa (quite common activity)
>enters one of the various thickets
>pauses a bit, due to heat, sees a white rat standing on a log
>comes closer
>sees another rat
>then another
>then another
>around a hundred rats are enchroaching her
>starts to get jittery
>walks away
>rats move with her. Notices rats are keeping the circle around her, moving backwards. Very light unnatural check, fails
>hellnope.jpg
>runs away, rats chase her, bite her on the anckles various times
>exits the thicket, smashes into the priest
>end scene 1
Theories on the missing/deleted chapters/primarchs of the first founding?
not sure if there is any solid leads or established theories on these but curious

>Theories on the missing/deleted chapters/primarchs of the first founding?
Destroyed for the thus-far unnamed treachery of being officially unfluffable when Black Library wants to ruin the Horus Heresy.
As far as I'm concerned, one of them ended up in FFXV's world and was a king of old. The Tall, to be specific, as he's said to have towered over everyone else and his weapon is a massive fucking chainsword.
>>51198144
They their to reference lost roman legions and so you can create your own Primarch and legion.

So, what the hell happened? Why is GW still the top dog when it comes to Wargaming? Why hasnt any other game beat it in popularity?
How does GW keep passing its IWND roll?
>>51186705
Same reason MTG is top-dog, the company that produces is great at marketing and turning a profit.
There are a plethora of arguably better options for both types of games, but which two have global tourneys, extensive histories, and an extremely wide range of products?

Are you planning to attend the pre-release for Aether Revolt tomorrow? I wasn't planning to but since all my other plans fell through I might as well go. What are some commons and uncommons to look out for? I haven't really looked at the set at all but this one was hard to miss.
>>51185549
Don't know about specifics but I hear that Black, Green, and White are all pretty good for main colors with Blue being a pretty good splash.
Red seems kinda meh, which is suprising as I thought they would give them the good cards considering the theme of the set.
>>51185658
Dunno about green and white but black looks pretty good. I hope I get few of these
>>51185658
R&D doesn't give one fuck about thematic importance, the set Designers do, but at the end of the day R&D makes the fucking cards.
its honestly a little jarring how little fucks they have to give about what SHOULD be good in a set, for instance, no red/blue legendary instead, they made it a Planeswalker that is only good in wombo combo.
same goes for Ludivec in the COmmander decks, the importance of that man behind the scenes didn't matter to R&D.
Can we all agree that Keyleth/Marisha is the worst both IC and OOC?
agreed.

The shining example of DM's girlfriend at play.
I'm not a member of Vox Machina but I was so mad when Keyleth instigated a fight with Raishan because of muh revenge
Is Exalted 3e any good? I didn't realize it had actually happened since it's not a conventional game store release. I played 2e and loved the setting and vibe, although the rules were a bit above my head.
Hopefully. I'm about to start a 3e game
>>51159495
After running 15 sessions of Ex3, I...
I guess the players like it? But it's an extremely heavy game on the GM, from nigh-mandatory custom content and tricky challenge design to the combat taking forever and all of the before becoming progressively worse as you play.
I'm not sure how I'll manage to finish this campaign, it's been on hiatus for half a year, and the players are yearning to play.
>>51159674
This sounds like the worst game for me to run; I'm not a mechanics guy. That's a shame.

For all your questions on Dark Heresy (1st and 2nd Editions), Rogue Trader, Deathwatch, Black Crusade, and Only War.
Not the wargame, not Chapter Master, not Space Hulk. Inquisitor is okay, but not many people know about it.
Not sure between starting Dark Heresy 1e and 2e? Pick 2e.
>Why did FFG lose the 40k RPG License?
Because they were bought by Asmodee and that caused some sort of licensing conflict.
>Will GW make their own 40k RPGs now?
Probably not. But if they do it will likely be worse than you could possibly imagine.

Has anyone ever stated a space hulk? If so could you point me in the direction of it?
Guys, need some help. Boss's favorite plundering town picked up an infestation of Adventurers recently, Wizard, Cleric, the whole pack.
Any advice on getting rid of them? Preferably without getting turned into a newt.
>>51146542
Way I figure it, it's easier to make yourself not worth the effort than trying to get past their magical armory-whatsits and stuffs.
So then you got two options, right? One is to make yourself really fucking prickly. You got traps, I got traps, the Cleric's a trap, but you want MORE traps. Like, everything is a trap. Even traps are traps.
Maybe trapped traps are traps, I don't know I'm not a trapmaker, just an enthuastic amateur. Magic shit too, magic traps. And if they want something you've got, get rid of it if you can or trap it. Basically, you want the adventurers to realise that shit shit ain't worth it.
Option two is to play nice to them. Make it so getting rid of you just wouldn't feel right, it ain't worth it for even a heap of gold. Not a big heap mind, they're fucking adventurers after all and we're kobolds. But a small heap made of mostly silver, maybe.
To do that, less sure. I think it's more a case-by-case basis. Offering a bit of help/loots in exchange for a task went well last time my tribe got into adventurer troubles.
That, or just bugger off and lay low for a couple weeks and come back to help rebuild afterwards.
>>51146640
Problem is, I don't think the boss will want to hold off on plundering that town until the adventurers leave, or wait for them to come to him. He really, really likes plundering that town.
>>51147037
Make more fucking traps then. Shout at them that the town is secretly evil or something.
I should not have to tell you to make traps. This isn't /gob/. Oh by the way dragons are neat. I wouldn't normally say that but I feel like you're behind on the basics.

A thread to talk about minis and games which fall between the cracks. /hwg/ doesn't entertain fantasy (for good reason) and the other threads are locked to very specific games, so this thread isn't tied to a game, or a genre, lets talk about fun wargames.
Any scale, any genre, any company, any minis. Skirmishers welcome. Rules designers welcome.
>Examples of games that qualify

Mighty Armies, Dragon Rampant, Of Gods and Mortals, Frostgrave, Hordes of the Things, Songs of Blades and Heroes, Freebooter's Fate, Dark Age and anything that doesn't necessarily have a dedicated thread (gorkamundheim).

How do we fix heavy guns, lads?
>>51109497
Give Heavy gunsA2A, ships carrying them gainAtmospheric. MAN THE OARS, MEN
>>51109497
they dont need fixing, they just need to be a better platform, right now PHR has only Four ships with heavy guns, Minos, Herk, Achilles, and Perseus. The Mions and Herk, are fine they are battleships designed to kill and or mess up other battleships. The Achilles is also fine its just highly specialized towards punching above its weight, the Perseus is a schizo ship that doesnt know what it wants to do and thus fails at everything. What is needed is one or both of the following:
A: Cruiser with Heavy + Mediums on each side linked, and a baby burnthrough
B: Light Cruiser with Heavy + Mediums on each side linked

In the future of space, it's easy to transmutate any matter into being different matter of the same quantity so long as you have enough energy. However, a gigantic mining guild still maintains a chokehold on interstellar travel by mining and refining FTL fuel. How can you have naturally-occurring fuel (or fuel components) that can't be replicated? It doesn't have to be from habitable planets.
>>51221794
just say that it can't be. It worked for Star Trek with their latinum or whatever it was called.
>>51221794
You can't.
Scarcity is still possible with high-tech fabricators/replicators if what you're replicating incorporates rare elements but if you can just synthesize those rare elements, that eliminates that.
All I can come up with is that it is an element or a compound that's too complex or unstable to be synthesized.
>>51221794
Maybe the replicators need the chemical breakdown of what they're replicating programmed in and the fuel is too complex to be figured out by randos and the mining guild keeps that shit on lock.
