I'm interested in /tg/'s thoughts on the relationship between attributes, physical limits, and rolling. I'll use the horizontal jump as an example.

Many games state that a character can jump a given distance determined by the relevant attribute. Sometimes you can roll dice to increase the distance you jump.

An alternative approach would be to give a gap the character is trying to jump a set DC, with no reference to specific distances.

Although the second approach seems more elegant due to reduced math it's also going to result in fewer automatic successes, characters may be required to roll on actions that wouldn't require a roll under system 1.

I'm sure there are alternative approaches I'm not considering at the moment.

(Don't really matter if you don't even have a setting and just want to post a cool idea.)

The universe is an infinite ladder of Worlds, each one brighter, better and even more real than the one below.
Even Heaven is a dark, mangled Hell for the Empyreans above.
Some races like the Elves are attuned to their World and are immortals, endlessly reincarnating if killed, unable to go up or down.
Some like the True Faes, the Demons below or the Gods above are as bound to their World as a being can be and draw immense power from it, but their essence would be utterly destroyed if they died, even the highest directly dragged to Absolute Death.
Only the transmigrative souls can and must go up or down when they die, this the greatest challenge a man faces.
Most go down and Earth is only two steps from the bottom where Absolute Death lies, but they have a chance to go up.
This is the blessing and curse of the never-resting souls.

Basically a Mind-archive.
Souls are recycled after death, full of energy and vigor from having lived. However minds are not, and if they don't pass into the afterlife waste away into nothingness.

So the God Enn carries each soul to the afterlife upon its death, at which point the mind shapes a part of that realm for itself dependant upon its self-image. Then Enn carries the soul off to rejoin the world-soul.

So really, the afterlife is what you make of it, deep down.
If you know you're a fucking monster and you think you deserve to be tormented until you've repented, that's what you'll get.

Essentially, minds separated from their souls are a person, stuck in time, unable to really change themselves, and contented.

The INTERESTING stuff is what happens when you divorce a mind from a soul before death.

Warlocks are either debtors, or sellouts. They bargain their soul away to a celestial power for claim either upon death, or immediately. The former merely gain a kind of power, they their minds are devoured by the god, and their souls entirely incorporated into it upon death. The second have their soul devoured immediately, replaced by a roiling ball of celestial energy.

The undead are either artificial minds without souls, who are tortured beings (zombies, skeletons). Or souls and minds attached to dead bodies (Liches and Vampires)... Esh doesn't come to collect those minds, as they've already died, so upon their final death, the soul flees its tortured existence in agony, and the mind is left to rot and die.

So the average party is a loose mob of murderhobos swordfucking their way to glory and riches. But sometimes they have to clean up and at least try to act socially aware, surely.

I think the plan is to do a rules rebalance every year but not a major rules change. They recently hired DC from Warmahordes to work on their rules and it has a lot of similarities with the clarity.

So every year should be a small rebalance with the characters based on feedback

I just picked up the Brewer's Guild starter the other day along with Spigot, Stave and Scum to fill out a full team. Got them assembled and planning on starting on painting tomorrow. Really loving the aesthetic of this game. What all teams do you guys play? I'm planning on picking up everything eventually, but I think my next buys are going to be Harry the Hat and the Fisherman's Guild starter

Greetings, my fellow humans of the Republic.

As you know, the Zorblaxian Empire is engaged in a long and costly war with the Glorbulan Confederacy, and the Human Republic's position is one of pure neutrality, making sure to trade an exactly equal amount of goods with both sides. Unfortunately, the Glorbulans have violated our neutrality. Yesterday, a Glorbulan fleet passed through a corner of our territory to reach the Empire and launch an attack, knowing that the Zorblaxians only fortified the part of their territory not touching ours. We can't not respond to this attack on our sovereignty, but neither can we do anything militarily. Are there any suggestions?

So, I DM a group that some how all have lycanthropy of some sort in their back story and it forces me to tell them everytime there is a full moon and then they complain about being a lycanthrope. They have killed a group member because he was a were-rat and not a werewolf, and they have slaughtered a farming family with a newborn.So I need a way to stop all this bullshit lycanthropy. Sorry to hijack the thread, but I have to vent about the Storyteller for my Werewolf game.
