The rough idea in gnosticism is that matter is bad and inferior to the spiritual and the Demiurge is a tyrannic false creator.
In gnostic settings we generaly play as those who have seen the "true" and then want to liberate themselves but what about the opposite ?

For example, what about the perspective of a group of protagonists chosen by the Demiurge* to protect reality against invaders from outside it and those inside who want to burn it down so they can escape ?

How could Nmages-like figures, illuminated liberators and celestial beings from the spiritual world be seen in a negative light ?

What about subverting the usual themes of gnostic protagonists ?

How could the most common gnostic cosmologies be subverted ?

*Maybe because they were qualified for the job, maybe because they are extremy hylics and so extremely difficult - or at least they are mentally very "material" in some ways.
Maybe in the cave instead of looking at the light they touched the cave where the light was projected and discovered some truth to it while the gnostics and beings from outside are blind to it.

Is there a better way to handle polearms and initiative in rpgs? I'm talking about how in certain rpgs, anyone with a polearm at the ready always gets first initiative. I guess this is to supposed to represent the idea that you can use the polearm to keep your opponent at bay because of its length, and that if the other guy wants to attack he has to find some way around that weapon's length to get in close and hit you.

Init bonus is one way to do it, yeah, though unless the system is fairly deadly that's often just a fairly unimportant gimmick that doesn't really represent the full impact of long reach. It does however have the advantage of being a very simple implementation, since you only need to check once if a character is using one.

An alternative approach could be to let polearms give the user a bonus to defense (at least in systems with passive defenses) if their weapon has a significantly longer reach than the opponent's. This would similarly represent the difficulty in getting around a longer-ranged weapon trying to keep you at bay. The problem there is that it's a more complex implementation, since you need to compare both the attacker's and the defender's weapons each time. It does allow for some more granularity, since you could add on rules to the effect that such a bonus doesn't apply if the character is flanked, or that several polearms in close order have their bonuses stack, and suchlike.

Hi /tg/
Does anyone have experience with getting players to get invested in roleplaying?

At my table we do a lot of RP, and one of my players just sits there, not really doing anything, playing on his phone and not paying attention, so important shit will happen and he won't know about it because he wasn't paying attention, and then he'll get annoyed later because stuff happened and he couldn't do anything about it.

I've tried a lot of stuff to help him out. I've tried giving out RP experience, but that's just resulted in everyone else being 1 to 2 levels higher than him. I've tried giving the group a mission specifically related to his character, but the party monk ended up taking it more seriously than he did. I've tried having NPCs interact with him, but when I ask him what he does 50% of the time he'll just stare at me and go "I dunno".

It's a really bizarre total lack of creativity, and I really have trouble understanding it. Is there anyone that's uncreative that could offer me some advice? I'm at a bit of a loss honestly.

How often does this happen? If it's a fairly regular occurrence, it needs fixing. Ask him to pay more attention, and as the GM, try to make sure you get his attention when you're doing important shit.

If he's happy not roleplaying much, and nobody else minds, then you might just have to accept that he's not into that. People play these sort of games to meet different needs; some people really dig roleplaying, others dig combat, some just like the social aspect of being with friends, or whatever. If he's not happy, try and identify why he's there in the first place, and throw some stuff that he's likely to engage in his way.

A medieval vampire wants to get into a castle. He has manipulated the guards and they allow him entrance. He has been invited inside.

okay so the fluff says this dude has an armor that looks similar to both craftworlder armor and dark eldar armor, and that even Cawl doesn't have anything like it in his archives.

So this dude is either
-an exodite (these fucks use pre-fall material) which the fur cape and knight-like outfit seem to indicate, BUT since exodites are usually primitive as fuck they wouldn't realistically use a high-tech armor like that
-a pre-fall eldar hero (possibly Eldanesh, whose emblem was the red crescent moon)
-some corsair asshole (maybe with a pet gyrinx) but probably not Yriel since he doesn't have a lance

what do you think?

Sup /tg/? I come seeking aid. I've got an idea for a campaign and have a setting, but I need a system to run it.
The concept is that after an alien invasion of the earth, humanity wiped itself out in a blaze of nuclear fire, taking most of the invaders with them. However, a super powerful AI was made and built into a powerful, self-sufficient war-sat, but it never saw use, instead falling back to the earth. Flash forward a few hundred or so years and now the warsat is a city producing robotic entities with their own artificial intelligences, "raised" in simulated early life before being implanted into their bodies. These machines revere humanity as their creators and seek to take the world back from the point of being a horrible wasteland crawling with mutant beasts and near feral aliens.
What I'm hoping to find is a system that would allow the players some serious, meaningful, choices in creating their robot characters, where types of body parts are legitimately different.
