Hello all, I play a lot of video games but I'm convinced anymore that video RPGs are trash at actual roleplay. They are much better than tabletop at dungeon crawls IMO, but characterization and whatnot, forget it.

My problem is I'm also uncomfortable with acting and playing a part, I don't like getting 'into character' and so I don't feel like I can get the real experience of an RPG. Also I find it hard to really roleplay naturally. I mean when someone enters a room, they don't ask someone else what everything looks like unless they're fucking blind. But that's apparently what you have to do when you play tabletop as the DM explains every fucking thing to you. It just seems so stupid.

I guess the question is how do you roleplay and not feel like a dumbass the entire time? Pic unrelated.

Hi /tg/. Going right at the point here: as most, I'm a fan of the Zelda franchise who first played ALttP but my love is OoT.

I'm working on adapting the game to be a series of adventures with a plot doable by your generic murder hobo party.

What I would like from you is opinions on the system to use. I know /tg/ have a half-baked system but that is off my limits. I want to work with what I know.

This leaves me with:
a. System agnostic, but this limits gameplay possibilities;
b. Homebrew a system, but as we all know, doing can kill the project while still in the making;
c. D&D 5e, because;
d. D&D 4e, the one I'm most inclined to. The tactical approach to combat is similar on how Zelda approaches the puzzle style of combat. The use of grid allows for physical puzzles that shouldn't be solved by die roll but by thinking (and allows for puzzle like the 2d games). The monster creation is great, the encounter creation math is solid, rewards are simple... Overall, it is the easiest ruleset for a GM. But I don't know if there's enough interest in a 4e version.

Or should I go elsewhere? Please, I'm all ears.

In your party (any campaign, setting, game, whatever), do you have a person that is absolutely cursed to roll a natural 1 at the worst possible time?

I'm currently playing in two different Pathfinder campaigns, and there is a guy in the group we all call "Fumbles." Fumbles is great at role-playing, but his dice rolls are hilariously bad. The very first time I played with this group, he rolled SIX 1s, that I counted, at the worst possible time.

Last night's 1 was a doozy. So, my group is in the middle of the ocean, and we decided our ship is tiny, we want to steal the floating fortress of a ship we see on the horizon. We go up to it, and initially kill much of the crew on deck with a nasty contagion, and take out a good portion of their cannons. While I take a quick restroom break, the other players decide "hey, let's invade the ship ourselves, screw this magic nonsense."

Next thing I know, we 're using a catapult to launch ourselves one by one onto the deck, since our magic users are concentrating on some other tasks. I, a dwarf, make it over OK, though I was terrified out of my mind.

Most of us make it over just fine, and commence to have the fight of our lives. HERE COMES FUMBLES: He's playing a bugbear, and could be a real asset in combat on this ship. He doesn't use his float spell properly, so it takes a while for him to get over to the ship. When he's getting close, he decides he doesn't need to float anymore, despite still being fairly high in the air. DM tells him to roll for his safe landing. Of course, this is all taking the place of roughly two rounds. FUMBLES ROLLS A FUCKING ONE. He lands so awkwardly, his leg snaps (compound fracture) which leaves his broken shin bone sticking up like a spike. Of course he's not done falling. The exposed shin bone/spike impales his skull, going up through his jaw and stabbing into his brain, killing him instantly.

Do you have a Fumbles in your campaign? Give me some Natural 1 horror stories.

Hey /tg/

So I'm thinking of running a fairly light-hearted and comedic campaign where the players are a group of monsters and the main antagonists are caricatures of a generic, stereotypical adventuring party. The whole idea got me thinking about what everyone else considers a 'standard' or 'stereotypical' party.

What's your idea of a stereotypical fantasy RPG party, /tg/?

Okay so the premise of my group's game is that they are post apocalyptic warriors and mercenaries assembled for one task: travel back in time to assassinate the man who caused Armageddon: Donald J Trump

The game takes place into the third year of Trump's presidency. Long story short they've battled through the fortified Presidential Tower (Trump relocated the US presisent's living quarters to Trump tower, made New York the US capitol, executedand exiled most of the legislative and judicial branch) guarded by elite Russian Spetsnaz and PMCs and have reached the penthouse where Trump is awaiting them. I hastily ended the game right before the elevator's doors open for the final confrontation partly for dramatic effect but mostly because i had no idea how to handle a final climatic battle withTrump.

What do you guys think? Here are some ideas I have come up with

>taunts the players and runs to the roof and gets inside of a gold plated Russian Hind gunship waiting for him
>has an elite band of heavily armed mercenaries/bodyguards waiting with him in his penthouse
>reveals he's actually a heavily augmented military grade cyborg

I'm very open to suggestions on how to end this built up showdown. Its definitely been hyped up because Trump and the group have been engaged in a back-and-forth vendetta against one another that culminated in Trump killing a beloved NPC that was part of the resistance that the PCs were working with in response to the group killing Donald Trump Jr.
