Is there any way to reliably establish what tabletop RPG's are the most played at the moment? Say, over the year 2016? Any sales charts, twitch or Youtube statistics? Sometimes I feel like browsing /tg/ doesn't give me a comprehensive outlook on what's hot right now.
The top six places at minimum will all be variants of D&D.
Hi. Please note that "games" means number of games from all time that are still not deleted, so they are still technically going on. And "players" means people who are signed up to all of those games.

Also, 4fags BTFO.
I'm now in a position of GMing a game style I've never tried before.
As a break from SR, my players and I decided we'd try out Numenera. I'd thought they'd want to do some kind of exploration or ancient-relic-of-the-week kind of game, but instead they're telling me they want to go for a game where they found their own citystate (I've sort of pushed back indigenous cultural and technical sophistication to something less medieval and more classical, like Greek or Mayan city states and leagues).
How should I do a campaign like this? I'm not used to this kind of sandboxy approach. They're starting in Dynafel associated with the Dreaming Reliquary cult, if that matters.
>>51220894
you can do anything in numenera, just remember to bring the weird and bad end / bad end dilemmas
Let's put this another way. Does anyone have any mechanical or reading-material recommendations for a way to represent the kingdom building aspects? Like, I understand the system for Pathfinder's Kingmaker kinda sucks, and I dabbled with Mandate of Heaven in Exalted and found it too abstract.
Mostly I just want to make sure there's enough interesting things for them to do and entanglements with other people.
>>51221562
Maybe check the system in Godbound? I recall that one having some kingdom building stuff that was tied to the characters (although it may tie into the system too much, IDK).
Monopoly is letting the internet vote on new player tokens. You can vote as many times as you want. Thoughts?
This is hilariously awful.
I voted for the 7 classics+t-rex.

There's a fucking hashtag. Imagine having to explain that to your grandparents. Voted for the classics.
Let's have a Duncan Appreciation thread!
In addition to Duncan, what are some good painting channels I could check out?
I will get some models this year so I want to be prepared.Yes, from Dark Souls Board Game, blame me.

Why aren't children immune to sex spells from books like Nymphology, Chainmail Bikini, and Book of Erotic Fantasy?
>>51220090
'children' in D&D is under 15 for humans and their nonhuman equivalents. Sexual maturity often happens before that and sexual curiosity long before, so it's a grey area. As always, the DM has final say.
Because that would make people have to include anti pedo shit for everything in those books.
Better to just allow the dms to police his fuck head players.
Though on another tangent, power word orgasm is the best fucking spell ever.

Contrary to popular belief, Detroit is really far away from Hell.
Belfast, Marseilles and Beirut, on the other hand, are pretty close - all in Pandemonium. (they're the closest real cities I can see so far that aren't concentration camp locations)
Auburn is the closest US place I've seen so far (in Wrath)

How do you best like weapons balanced?
Do you even like it when weapons are balanced?
Obviously it's better to have a well balanced weapon.
>>51219560
Balance them realistically. There is a reason why all the different weapons existed, even though on certain types of weapons are strictly superior in their use (Compare polearms to swords).
But polearms' problem is that they are hard to carry (Impose disadvantages to any rolls where you need both of your hands) and they are rubbish when the opponent gets beyond your weapon's sweet spot.
Swords (not talking about greatswords, they are basically polearms), on the other hand, have these things called sheaths, which means you can put it away while doing things. Most of them can also be used right up until an opponent is right on your skin. There's a reason why spearmen often carried swords with them, even though a spear is a superior weapon in a battle.
Even though, ironically, in my own game, weapons are mostly window dressing unless they're magical or just vastly better than most. Well, the game is designed towards dramatic tension, not toward realistic implications.
>>51219560
Generally I like it where weapons *can* be about as useful and effective, with it hinging more on the particulars of a character rather than the stats in themselves.
For instance, Rule of Cool's "Legend" system: all weapons only do a base damage of d6, so efficacy is based more on traits, character level, and what features they've got playing into their attacks.
And then there's Fantasy Craft, where pretty much every weapon does an appreciable amount of damage. Like, a simple club does d8 subdual damage, so you can just beat the shit out of mooks with a stick and do quite well for yourself. The real strengths of weapons are going to be more from its excellent take on the Feat system and/or your class abilities.
How do you, personally, think of new campaign premises?
How do you come up with something that actually clicks instead of just ripping off a game or move you liked that you think you could emulate?
>>51219134
I just rip off games or movies. The trick is to do several at once so it becomes such a jumbled mess that no-one can tell what the original source material was.
I take time I should spend on other issues and dream and doodle and take notes for a while until reality calls. rinse and repeat till there's something you can consolidate.
whether my stuff is truly original is questionable.
There's nothing wrong with being inspired by something
Writers have been writing variations of the Odyssey, Illiad and Anabasis for thousands of years now. I made a game about a space station that was a much more grounded than Space Station 13 and dealt with heavier themes but I openly admit I was inspired by all the wackiness of space station 13.
Writers are usually inspired by their real life experiences, even sci fi writers.
