This is clearly a beloved folk song of a Warforged empire, which is very soon planning a full scale invasion against the kingdom portrayed in this song. It's up to the party to uncover the truth of what really happened all those years ago in order to hopefully stop the conflict from happening.

A CoC campaign. A group of detectives are hired out by a paranoid man with too much money on his hands to investigate the many neighbors he now has after moving into a new home, only to find that the very action of investigating these neighbors causes intense damage to one's sanity.

A rather simple and straightforward question.
Do you prefer magic as a science or something entirely distinct?
Me, I enjoy both takes equally depending on the setting.
I've always enjoyed the breakdown going like this.
Science is learning all the rules of how the world works, and then using those rules to get what you want.
Magic is the ability to circumvent those rules, and do things that would be impossible to do anywhere else.
Personally I find that trying to make magic a science gets rid of the charm of what makes magic so magical in the first place.

>Personally I find that trying to make magic a science gets rid of the charm of what makes magic so magical in the first place.
George R. R. Martin agrees with you.
>>55165916
>>55166352
While I agree with this viewpoint, this only ever works if those wielding magic also barely understand what the fuck it is they're doing, can seldom achieve truly repeatable successes and make extensive use of con-artistry, manipulation and other smoke-screens to hide the fact that they are nowhere near as in control as they pretend to be.
I want to start running a continuous wargame campaign for my roommates who are into that sort of thing, and I was thinking of using a second American Civil War a century or two into the future as a setting.
What are some neat things I can do with this premise? I'm thinking of basing it off of Shattered Union somewhat, with more than just the Union and the Confederacy. Possibly having Texas be its own thing, as well as California and Cascadia.
>>55165815
A Civil War scenario I've always wanted to see is somewhat of an alternate history situation, where for whatever reason, perhaps World War 2 goes a whole lot worse for a whole lot of people, or the Cold War finally gets hot, most of the world outside of the good ol' US of A hits a massive decline while America just keeps getting bigger through corporations, to the point where states rights are blowing government rights out of the water.
One thing leads to another, the states in their own personal interests start turning on each other, and bing bang boom, the entire united states is fighting against itself, with no larger world powers coming in to take advantage of the chaos.
Silly? Yes. But I love the concept of each state, or at the very least a lot of smaller factions set in the US, going at it and state cultures being driven up to 11.
>>55165815
Re-use Kaiserreich.
You'd end up with Canada, the USA, three american separatist nations and Mexico fighting over the US.

Oh, to be young and free again
Tolkien was a boring author. I couldn't even finish the Hobbit, he is so fucking dull. I think people just put him up on a shelf so they can pretend like they read Tolkien.
Absolutely nothing he did was interesting or groundbreaking. It was the most generic Arthurian fantasy ever conceived, with the most dull, uninteresting, cookie cutter characters.
I think people just bought his books cause he said he was a war hero. There is nothing insightful or even interesting about his novels.
I think anybody who claims to have read and enjoyed Tolkien is an irredeemable poseur who hates fantasy and just wants to ride the bandwagon.
You can go back to /pfg/ now.
Cool story. You should make a blog.

I love the show and am trying to create a rpg version of it. I would like some support in doing this.

A big part of it will invovle assigning a point value to things like vows and conditions and what they'll allow. We have several examples of what can be done but it should also be as deadly as it is in the series. If one of the conditions is death then the power should be appropriately powerful but if the PC fucks up then there is no takebacks they just die.
>>55164978
>>55165216
I think ORE/Wild Talents can totally fit this game.
If you include the rules from Monsters & Other Childish Things where you can add dice from beliefs/vows/pacts to your power roles, you capture the essence of Nen really well.
Also given how the system works, it's really easy to establish the sort of tiered power-levels that the series uses to great effect without characters being totally invincible against each other.

Can you take Friendbringers as companions?

Most fantasy players have heard of hexcrawl systems for sandbox games, but how many of you have heard of pointcrawl and pathcrawl?

http://detectmagic.blogspot.com/2014/04/pathcrawl.html?m=1
Have any of you used these before? How did it go?
What's a hexcrawl?
>>55164738
It's a hexagonal map for exploration type games.

Good to see I'm not the first to consider such systems. I was considering them for a HoMM clone, but yeah, could be useful for tabletop too.
I found a new card game, but I don't have any idea how to play it. It's really confusing and I'm starting to get frustrated.
>pic related, its one of the cards
>>55164716
Don't bother, it's trash
>>55164716
Buy Rusty Kuntz's card, he's super overpowered.
>>55164737
what does he do? is he just really strong or does he have a broken ability?
How's your board game coming along?
At this point it's really just polishing up the rules and testing different ways of doing the core mechanics until things click and feel right. I may need to redistribute the card levels but aside from that I really need to just get on with shit. Maybe rewrite the manual, make a rough layout for it, plan the box etc.
>>55164361
Pretty good. I spent the weekend trapped in hurricane harvey so I wrote out a full rule book. Which actually organized all the elements of play

What are the classes or races that make you groan when you see them hit table? Why so? What work arounds are available to make it not so much of a painful experience?
Inspired by the necromancy wizards / summoned druids talk in the last general - how do you tackle archetypes that bog down the game.

>Inspired by the necromancy wizards / summoned druids talk in the last general - how do you tackle archetypes that bog down the game.
Why did WotC make this shit work this way if it's so reviled? Do they not playtest their shit?
>What are the classes or races that make you groan when you see them hit table?
Tiefling and Dragonborn for races. I just don't like how they seem to show up in every single fucking adventuring group.

None, I don't play with shitlords

By not playing with shitlords.
How often do you use music in your campaigns, /tg/?
>>55164063
Just about all the time. It's not strictly necessary, but it can help the mood.
Hey pa heparee henos deh henos deh hey pa hee teh dee eenos deh eet ta dee, SEPHARASU,
>>55164063
Every "boss/boss battle" has a theme, as do the players and other recurring NPCs for when they do cool stuff.
Other than that, ill occasionally use it during tense moments, or anything to help get the players into the mood. Since since its PTU, i even have a full playlist for a fightclub that has the arena change every couple of rounds with different tracks for the rooms.
How do you handle alignments?
Are they unchanging? Can you not act out of your alignment? Are they more fluid where you can bend the rules?
Do you exclude alignments in your games altogether?
>>55163867

Alihnments is merely a roleplaying tool for helping you roleplay and quickly create characters. It is not an ironclad rule that must be followed at all times.
Maybe it will happen edition.
