They're usually replaced with adamantium that's welded on afterwards, usually after the wax one has seen a battle. Not sure why they need it to be battle tested, but the wax is usually a transitory material.
Not sure about the parchment. Maybe they've got some sort of fake paper that's actually a lot tougher, like Skitarii armor-weave cloaks?

You know they say that all men are created equal, but you look at me and you look at Guilliman and you can see that statement is not true. See, normally if you go one on one with another Primarch, you got a 50/50 chance of winning. But I'm a genetic freak and I'm not normal! So you got a 25%, AT BEST, at beat me. Then you add Angron to the mix, your chances of winning drastic go down. See the 3 way, at Calth, you got a 33 1/3 chance of winning, but I, I got a 66 and 2/3 chance of winning, because Angron KNOWS he can't beat me and he's not even gonna try!
So Guilliman, you take your 33 1/3 chance, minus my 25% chance and you got an 8 1/3 chance of winning at Calth. But then you take my 75% chance of winning, if we was to go one on one, and then add 66 2/3 per cents, I got 141 2/3 chance of winning at Calth. See Roboute, the numbers don't lie, and they spell disaster for you at Calth.

Invited my girlfriend into a campaign (2nd time inviting a gf), we're 3 sessions into a new campaign with just her and my brother to ease her into it.
So far she's "awkward and nervous" as she describes it; she's a good player too, just not very comfortable with actually playing the role yet and seems a little disconnected. I told her she shouldn't feel like she's obligated to play if she doesn't want to, and while she hasn't said she wants to stop/leave yet it seems like she's not having fun in the same way my brother and I are.
I assured her that new campaigns, especially for "virgin" players, can often start a bit rocky and pick up momentum and suck you in after a bit.
Anyway. I guess I'm just afraid I'm running things poorly, and I don't know whether I should alter the way I'm doing things or not to try to entice her into staying as she's fun to game with, or just let whatever happen. Maybe ramp up the excitement factor somehow?
She mentioned that she played in a game once before, and that she didn't like combat much but thought the story and character aspects were enjoyable. So I'm also trying to bring her character backstory into it, but I don't want to force it.
Anyone else been in this situation of trying to get someone hooked on RPGs and possibly failing? Any advice?
Also, GM inadequacy general I guess.

Get another player or two in there. As it stands, she may feel less like this is time for the three of you and more like this is her intruding on bonding time between you and your brother.
Another one or two players will make it clearer that you take this as a group fun activity and that she's not a third wheel. It will also allow for more character dynamics with more people, which would pander to her love of story and character aspects.

What do you suppose druchii exiles do, anyway? The ones who don't get murdered by their underlings or temple assassins, I mean. I figure some defect to chaos, and piracy is another obvious avenue, but would they work with the inferior races? Is there any 40k media which goes into more detail about civilian life? Like, the main character is a civvy or its written from their point of view, or even if the protag isn't a civilian they spend a lot of time in, around and describing ordinary life going on in a city? Obviously not focusing on the constant war isn't very Warhammer, but I'm curious to know if there's anything more specific than broadstrokes about hive worlds and agriworlds.

Civilan life is depicted, to various degree, in some books, but it's always marginal.
It is more of a problem since 40k rpgs ware first created, since such material would be very useful.

There is different foods relative to each planet and different customs.

I have no idea what I'm doing.
I improv'ed my psuedo-post-apocalyptic Desert campaign into a corner. I keep on making up new weird things and not connecting them to each other in beleivable ways. The following things are now true in my game world because I improv'ed them:
>Adventure was kicked off by a dying man crawling into town with a bag of treasure and a map to some mysterious ruins in the south -- he was poisoned by something terrible that giving water to him made worse. Before he died he said that if "they" escape the world is doomed.
>Night doesn't come anymore in the last 5 years -- just a long red twilight.
>The Rat People are somehow ruled by Werejackals, which disappeared 5 years ago when the moon stopped appearing in the sky.
>The Rat People started worshipping a centipede idol which was given to them by a "Shadow Man" -- when a PC stole the idol, centipedes started to rain down from the ceiling.
>The Church of the Parched Throat is somehow in league with the Slaver's Guild.
>The wizard tower to the east somehow processes slaves by removing their minds.
>The Crimson Army to the West is enroaching on the Oasis city of Mere (current party location).
I have no central conflict, except the PCs now want to stop slavery in Mere because it's bad. WTF do I do? How do I start connecting the dots?

The shadow man is a warlock of the things in the ruins to the south, whose blood is dust and whose sign is the coiled centipede, paving their way. The Church of the Parched Throat works for them. The wizards in the eastern tower don't know they're working for the Dust-blooded ones.
The Church gave the Slaver's Guild some scrolls describing mind-removal spells, which they then gave to the wizards and set up a lucrative slave-brainwashing deal. One of the wizards has analyzed the magic more closely, and she has realized that there's a hidden command implanted in the brainwashing. When there are enough brainwashed slaves, the High Priestess of the Church will activated them all and use them to take over the city. Then the mass sacrifices to awaken to dry ones will begin.
The Crimson Army are fanatical and dangerous, but they're actually on the right side of this. They're following a prophecy about the "sunset days when the sky is red, and men bathed in crimson must stand against the lords of desolation." They're coming to try to stop the dust-things from escaping, by killing everyone who might be a cultist trying to free them.

If you're talking about a character who is the 'face' of the game, then sure, it could be argued that Jace is the new Urza.
If you're talking about overall impact on the universe, lore, etc, then no. Nicol Bolas would be the current default choice in that regard.
