So, the quickstart for 7th Sea: The East is now up and about. To those who aren't in the loop, The East is intended to be a standalone game, fully compatible with 7th Sea 2nd edition, which will focus on the East Asia equivalent of the game's 17th century setting. The bar is both high and low simultaneously because on the one end everyone has been eagerly expecting that kind of content for years but on the other hand the last edition's treatment of east Asia was laughably bad in almost every respect, so just about anything moderately competent will be "better".
A few notes to get discussion started:
* Instead of the standard 5 Trait array, Eastern Heroes choose 5 out of 7 Traits representing various virtues, so instead of Resolve, Wits or Finesse any given one may have Compassion, Wisdom and Loyalty. If nothing else, this is an interesting idea and it follows pretty logically from the fact that 2nd edition's more narrative gameplay mean there's no mechanical difference between the traits anyway. In a sense, there's no reason why your Traits *couldn't* be anything you like.
2. The world now has a Japan equivalent in Fuso! Now we can only hope John Wick reins in his natural urge to masturbate to their supremacy and importance, but evidence doesn't look promising.
3. Other Eastern nations include Han (Korea equivalent, don't ask why), Shenzou (China equivalent), the Agnivasran Empire (India), Nagaja (somewhere in Southeast Asia?), Kammerra and the Kiwa Islands, which, very intriguingly, appear to be equivalents for Australia and New Zealand, of all things.
4. Fuso's native sorcery is called Kamuryu and, unsurprisingly, involves communing with and making requests of the "Kamuy" who exist in every thing. It can create magic items by binding Kamuy to them but there don't appear to be rules for this so I guess it's GMs fiat whether this is a recipe for omnipotence or useless.
>>55154463
Sorry, it's "Kamuyru", not "Kamuryu". The book also notes that the spelling "Kamuy" isntead of "Kami" isn't yet another of 7th Sea's clumsy attempts at making something fantastic by changing its spelling (*cough* "lwa" * *coughe*) but instead is the Ainu word for spirits. This is meant to represent the fact that, keeping with the 2nd edition setting's commitment to representing a more upbeat version of history, the Ainu equivalents in Fuso (the "Northern Tribes") were not persecuted so harshly and peacefully integrated into society.
As a sidenote, the setting's equivalent of admiral Yi San Sin is a woman. Feel free to rage about SJWs to your heart's content.
>>55154522
It's actually another case of lazy gender editing. Admiral Jihu is called "he" in one page then described as a woman in the next.
>>55154463
The longer 7th sea 2nd produces, it feels like the looser the chokehold on Wick the editors are getting.

Second for Red artifacts
>>55154427
>Jank
I define jank as intentionally suboptimal combos or interaction that, in magical christmasland, can lead to winning the game.
My favorite jank interaction is Mirrorweave with control magic and cyclonic rift. It's not a very good combo, but I literally stole someone's creakwood liege and swung for exponential damage into an empty boardstate, and I've been obsessed with pulling it off ever since.
Aetherize is also jank, same with Aetherspouts, because while they're effective, they have a hilarious chance of backfiring.
>>55154507
Pretty much what he said in my opinion. Shit that isnt optimal but tends to be more fun or wonderland.
My new favorite if from the last thread and its pestilence demon, nightshade peddler, and scythe of the wretched. Something about getting all three pieces together in mygitrogdeck gives me a massive erection
Um question to any prolific Lovecraft readers out there on /tg/:
But is there any works that expand on the Yaddithians? I know they were introduced in "Through the Gates of the Silver Key" and from that we know they were snouted and clawed beings with a hard carapace rather than a hide or skin. Also I can deduce that their mystics hold a prominent place in their society. I also know that their original homeworld was destroyed by the sandworm's space-faring cousins.
are there any other works that also expand on these people? or was "Through the Gates of the Silver Key" their one and only appearance?also Mi-Go, anywhere else they are expanded upon? also name-drops don't count
>inb4 somebody sends him to /lit/
/lit/ is even less about books than /v/ is about video games. You can't talk about Lovecraft there
>>55154372
Real love craft is just name drops and thats the point. Knowing more isnt.
>>55154540
>Knowing more isnt.
Then again, sometimes the context informs the reader a little more about that thing. Namely that they either posses whatever trait the dialog was referencing or that trait is decidedly absent. So unless they name-dropped the name to cite them as an example of something we already know about it we inadvertently learn something about them.
An example I can think of is the creature Dagon, in the short story "Dagon" we learn very little, we know he's a fish-creature living at the bottom of the sea. That's about it, but because he get's name-dropped in "Shadow Over Innsmouth" as the prominent Deity of the Deep Ones we learn a bit more, namely we learn of his sinister nature and hatred of humans by the fact that his followers seek to conquer the surface and enslave/eradicate humanity.
What are some good pranks to pull at the game store?
>>55154333
going to a game store and buying something, and then not enjoying what you bought and complaining about it online

What are your most autistic/OCD habits relating to /tg/?
Do all of your dice have to sit on the table with their max roll facing up? Does your mini always need to be facing the enemy you're attacking? Do you find yourself adding bizarre elements to your character's backstory just to match her character art?
>>55154026
I play a tabletop roleplaying game.
>>55154026
I don't have a real life, so I seek escapism in tabletop. I might care about my fictional family more than about my real one.
>>55154026
Facing your miniatures in the right way just makes the game look better.
So I'm running a fantasy campaign and am about to introduce the players to the very first dragon. It's a colossal, beastminded, flightless giant encountered in a massive underground fungal cavern the players and a sizeable group of soldiers need to get past. Now, I want to liven up the fight a bit to avoid going into territory where they just chip away at its toenails until it falls over.
What sort of interesting game mechanics can /tg come up with to liven up a colossal bossfight?
>>55153826
Make it more videogamey. Seriously. Health-gating that makes it behave differently, have weak points for massive damage, let your players tackle the threat creatively instead of "tick down its health bar and also dont die"
Definitely going to have health threshhold effects, like bringing out its breath weapon much later and brief windows of openings.
>>55153826
It all depends on how they want to do it.
Speaking in broad generalities fighting something that big always comes in two parts: the trick and the kick.
The trick is whatever you're pulling to keep it from instantly eating you. Ropes, distractions, nets, whatever you've got. Half the party should be heavily involved maintaining the trick, because without it there is no kick.
The kick is your killing blow, which players should fight towards rolling saves for hazards and tests for challenges moving towards their final goal.
The trick is to make it feel tenuous. Make sure to carefully describe the balance of power and the urgency of the fight. Fray ropes. Crack stones. Bend metal restrains. Strain the trick to the breaking point to urge the kick-team onward.
Has playing tabletop games made you more confident in real life?
Do you even have a personality anymore or has that confidence become you roleplaying as someone you're not in real life?
>>55153755
>Has playing tabletop games made you more confident in real life?
GMing has, but that's because as a GM you act as a host of sorts, leading the activity and organizing a group of people.
>Do you even have a personality anymore or has that confidence become you roleplaying as someone you're not in real life?
Are we to infer that you think professional actors are all emotionless husks off screen? Because acting is more thorough and involved and time consuming than playing an RPG.
>>55154467
Like when you go for interviews or at the workplace when tabletop gaming, video games and anime are not acceptable hobbies unlike sports and watching sports and you have to pretend to be someone you're not and your role playing skills come into action in your daily life.
It's been a while since we had this thread. Some new content, some newfriends must have appeared.

>As the war in the Konor System reaches its crescendo, dire vox reports filter in from the far edge of the region. The death world of Loebos hurtles across space like an enormous wrecking ball, trailing a vast cloud of spore-ridden asteroids and noxious gases. This is Mortarion’s final gambit for the conquest of Konor – a world weaponised, powered by continent-sized engines and the fell power of the warp. If Loebos’ furious momentum is not stopped, the system-wide war still raging will be rendered irrelevant. The death world will barrel through the system like a plague comet, trailing corruption and death in its wake, infecting world after world with Nurgle’s pestilential gifts.

Am I an anomaly (an abomination?)
>>55153318
Well yeah you are an abomination, but I think the whole "people can't relate to nonhumans" thing is a bit shit. Maybe autists can't, but I can and I think most others can too.
Also, kids often connect with adult characters.
>>55153331
It isn't can/can't, it's how many relate how well.
Whats with the "X Element in the 40K Universe Vs Something else outside of it" threads? Usually in a completly one sided matchup that follows up with how special and important and totally unbeatable X is.
Whats with the need for validation of "X Faction" or "X Character" anyway?
Can you not play with your plastic figurine without having to convince yourself every 20 minutes that it could totally kick everything elses as in the fictional multiverse?

I have no problem with Warhammer, I like the setting, that being said there is a reason why it is keep getting posted, because GW, in one way or other, keeps publishing it.
Take a look at all the other fictional settings, how many settings of 80s and 90s, Dragonlance, Planescape, Dark Sun etc remained? Nearly zero. There was a time when you couldn't browse usenet without hitting a guy nicknamed Raistlin.
Take a look at Forgotten Realms, it was butchered in 4th edition so hard but now being 5th edition's official setting, it is getting talked again, fucking hell there are two youtube channels about FR lore, and they get qutie a few thousand views. Warhammer and WoD are the only two settings that are conssitently had material published for. Wod had a brief Nwod period but even that was liked by some if not all.
People will talk what is published. Had GW gone bankrupt in 2008 I doubt there would be this many Warhammer threads
