Most fantasy players have heard of hexcrawl systems for sandbox games, but how many of you have heard of pointcrawl and pathcrawl?

Have any of you used these before? How did it go?
What's a hexcrawl?

It's a hexagonal map for exploration type games.

Good to see I'm not the first to consider such systems. I was considering them for a HoMM clone, but yeah, could be useful for tabletop too.

Hexcrawls work because they cover wide open areas, while that pointcrawl system is basically a non-mapping-intensive form of dungeon crawl. They can both be used at different levels of granularity. Any pointcrawl used to represent a wide-open world would... basically look like a hexcrawl map.
I played a point crawl that masqueraded as a pathcrawl: it was called Zork.
And so many of the old Sierra adventure games.
Look at this map - it's those old adventure games again.
