We're dealing with a sharp mind here. We'd best move carefully, lest we'd cut ourselves.

Well on the surface perhaps. But this kind of work is meant to convey a narrative out of the frame. Most still life just isn't interesting enough to care about too much I think.
No idea for op though.
Am I the only one who think their videos are pretty good but canĀ“t stand their pretentious hipsterness talking/personalities?
Do anyone knows about some other good-content youtubers focusing on analog?
The one on the left is pretty good

The channel taught me you don't have to be rich to be a talented artist.
I'm fairly new to photography
I don't really want to buy lightroom as I don't take that many photos.
I'm wondering what you guy's use/used that you found helped out the most.

Digital Photo Professional 4 is Canon software that comes with most DSLR cameras and such. It can also be downloaded off their website with a valid serial number. Good for basic adjustments on RAW .CR2 files and will edit any JPG/TIFF file. Something I use a lot for my Canon images.
GIMP is probably the best all around free image editor.
Affinity Photo tries to be similar to photoshop and lightroom, with decent success. $50 up front and it's yours.
>I don't really want to buy lightroom as I don't take that many photos.
You don't buy it, you rent it until the end of time. But you can always pirate it.

Tried many but light room is the best IMHO. Are you a student or something because sometimes you can get it really cheap through your university
Should I feel bad for using this?
>>3122021
No. You should feel bad for not learning to use it to its full potential.

I want to take before after photos of products I have worked on (I do metal refinishing), does anyone know how I can take the before and after in almost an identical spot?
Also with backdrops, should I just go with white like most of the tutorials say, and add a backdrop in post? White background in every picture will look pretty boring as I am not advertising products, its a service, I need to make it look interesting.
I plan on displaying the before after photos like this, so it's important they line up really well, or it will look quite sloppy.

if you work with metal, a dark background and some white lightning can look very impressive. just build yourself some small product shooting corner and set up a permanent tripod. alternatively you can place some tape marking on the ground to reproduce your setup.

What are the books and magazines you use most for ...
reference?
learning about photography in general?
Inspiration?
For keeping up with trends and tutorials?
I'd rather not be inundated with social media all the time, too busy trying to wait through YouTube videos to see what's going on.

Alex Soth comes to mind. I pretty much strictly read photo books, and don't read much about theory and such. I'm mainly into doc and street, but I can name the people whose books inspire me:
Niagara by Alec Soth
Ou Menya by Bieke Depoorter (favorite book in the last few years)
Grim Street by Mark Cohen
Street Cops by Jill Freedman
Naked City by Weegee
Vivian Maier: A Photographer Found
Anything by Martin Parr
>>3121399
I appreciate the response!
I'm not much into street photography, though I can definitely appreciate the art.
I think /p/ needs a proper sticky with media recommendations for different genres.
>>3121410
No Problem! Hope it helps. I think you'd like Alec Soth and Depoorter if you don't like street. They are more documentary and portrait focused. Alec Soth is a goddamn portrait and landscape god imo

how much for the pussy?
>use medium format camera
>take picture of literally anything
>looks amazing
I don't get it? How do they do it?
they don't? usually people who shoot medium format know how to compose and shoot subjects
they wouldn't drop the money or time into it if they didn't, it takes passion to shoot medium format, weather it's film, or digi
The size of noise stays the same while the subject increases massively in proportion.

Why is it that there are no good cameras on the market? I've tried several entry level cameras over the last year or so and every single one has been terrible. The picture quality just isn't there. My iPhone 7 photos have very similar levels of detail despite the lens being much smaller. Why is this?

this
utterly pointless
a couple of days ago I was in yellowstone national park and a bunch of people were holding up traffic trying to get a picture of something so i pull over and there is a huge bull elk just lying near the road. I had my camera out so I got some OK pics. he hadn't ran away yet so i got closer, eventually im like 5 or 6 feet away from it and it get up and just looks at me so i took a picture (pic attached) then got the fuck out.
some rando yelled at me "that was really fuckin' stupid"
turns out a bunch of people die to those things a year.

for me, probably some of these or similar, low level racing can be sketch. also /really/ hard to pan when the car passes less than five feet away. fences are your friend, don't be like me.
