I want to get into photography. Im looking at either the d3300 or d3400
What is best?
Fuck off and read sticky

D34 is fine if you're just taking photos. But if you want to take video, get the d33, since the d34 doesn't have an audio input.

Sony A6000
Just shot myself for the first time after spending 4 minutes putting a sheet up with pins and turning on a bedroom light, just wanted to see how it would come out.
While it's obviously shit and I'm so new I don't even know the correct term, it's better than most phone pics of me so I figure I should spend some time actually learning to take portraits.
What are some good tips/advice/things you've learned? What can a complete idiot like myself with low to no budget do to improve photos like this?
Lighting? Not standing like a retard? Profile general I guess

dont want to make a new thread and my question fits the topic:
What focal lenses do you use for what type of portrait while keeping the person look real or the most flattering (no distortion like wide angle closeup)?
Eg. head only, head and chest, whole upper body, whole person, person with surrounding etc.
I'm kind of to big of a noob to see much of a difference when i stand a few meters away and zoom in. or is this how it works?
>>3124253
>google: im a retard and what is best focal length for portraits
of course i googled this but all that shows up is general stuff like 50mm or 85 or up to 1xx without telling what exactly to use them for. However theres a difference in look if i shoot 85mm head or 85 full body. And i want the one that lets someone look as "reallife" as possible.
If you got a link i'd appreciate this just as well.
went out streetshitting. Some girl called me a fucking creep. Some metro worker guy outside tried to tell me outside was private property. Should I just pretend to be gay. Dress gay af and talk gay to these people. Would that make them less confrontational?
>>3124112
I've only had one person confront me for taking photos, and it was while I was shooting a bridge with my wide-angle. I didn't even realize she was there until i looked at the pic in lightroom and her sour, ugly face was ruining my focal point.
I really think it's more about the photographer than the act of taking photographs when it comes to people getting creeped out. If you're some fat, greasy /fa/ freak then you're going to get people's white knight boners going. But since i'm a young, slightly effeminate dude with a nice face that dresses inconspicuously most people don't even notice I'm there, even when I'm taking shots like pic related. I've literally sat in the same spot taking pictures for upwards of ten minutes and nobody's given me more than a glance.
Sadly that doesn't do much to help you. I guess the best method to diffuse confrontation is to act genuinely confused, like you have no idea what they're confronting you about. If that doesn't work, just turn around and walk away. If they chase after you and try to get physical, call the cops. Then the story is "some nutjob attacked me while I was taking pictures of some flowers or some shit"

First time working with film cameras. I have a DSLR and I have a lot of experience with digital cameras but I want to try older mediums. Any advice?
throw it in the trash and keep using your dslr
>>3123859
you fucked up.
Throw it away/sell it, use your DSLR... and this is coming from a film-only fag.
If anything use either Nikon's F series of SLRs, Canon's F-1, A-1, AE-1, or FTb. And for Olympus stick to the OM-X line.
>>3123859
take pictures with it, dipshit
what the fuck were you expecting
Is it morally acceptable to add effects to your pics? Or I'll look like a snapchat-fag?
I shot pic related with my phone and a huge amount of zoom. I tried to solve it with Lightroom for Android.
>>3123705
depends on your moral
that being said just do what looks good, cheap usage of common effects almost always will look terrible though.
>>3123705
Good editing is invisible. Everyone edits their shit, only retards make it obvious.
If you're not a photojournalist, morality doesn't even enter the discussion. You're doing this as a hobby, do what gives you the most pleasure. If you're doing this for the acceptance of angry people on a sri lankan basket weaving mailing list, you're doing it for the wrong reasons.
>>3123724
does it even enter the discussion for photojournalists though? as long as the edits aren't deceiving people (like shopping in things that arent really there) then i don't think effects are really a moral decision for them. it's not like it's being dishonest to portray an event as more visually polished than it actually was
May we have a weather thread?

>EOS M
What's the future of this system?
I have decided to get rid of a lot of my Fuji gear, I'm doing this as I am not as interested in photography as I was before..
However, I do still want a nice small size camera and 1 or 2 decent lenses and the m5 with the 22mm is appealing to me the most right now thanks to the small size, 35mm equiv lens and sleek design (honestly tired of all the clunky dials).
That said.. I have no experience with the M system and don't want to sink money into a system with no future, I would like to buy a few more nice primes down the track.
I am also considering Panasonic, I have used a GH3 before and it was probably the best feeling camera (ergonomically) that I've ever used. The bodies are a bit bigger but it isn't clunky. I also really like the extremely small 12-35mm for the pana system.
>Just buy an xpro1/2
I dislike the corner EVF cameras and all the Fuji DSL style cams have the clunky dials.
Thanks.

EOS M1 user here.
Bought it with the 22mm, cheap and new. I don't know what Canon's M-masterplan is, but the system is regular APS-C Canon quality and it works just fine.
Unfortunately, the 22mm is the only decent M lens IMO. Needs more primes.
>>3123392
This is the first time I've ever heard of anyone disliking the Fuji dials. I thought they were nice and tactile. Each click fell into place.

Dials themselves are okay, their placement sucks though.
