How relevant Chevrolet is in USA compared to brands like Ford and Dodge?
You never see Chevrolets in Europe here. Ive seen more Dodge than Chevrolet.

OPEL, faggot.

Generally Chevy is complete hit and miss with their cars; their econoboxes are usually trash but performance models (or models with performance trims) such as the Impala, Corvette and Camaro are great, the issue is yuropoors can't afford to buy or run these so it's not worth bringing the brand over for less-than-great econoboxes and performance cars nobody can afford.

Who makes the best luxury sport car and why?

Not including USA in this. If someone thinks they should be included, make your case why.

really there is no best, the competition is increasing and both have advantages and disadvantages.

I do have a preference for Lexus because I find them much more comfortable and want to own my cars for a long period without spending too much on maintenance. However for performance I would go for a BMW since Lexus is not that focused on those things, only just last year they have started so it will be a while till they come with something as good.

Also, I don't think of Infiniti and Audi as luxury vehicles, they are not near as the quality of the big three (Mercedes, BMW, Lexus)
>>
modern german cars are too complicated in maintenance. audi looks good but is incredibly overpriced.

modern jap cars often have atrocious edgy design.
id go with jap anyway though.

I have Precision Instruments 1/2 and 3/8, can't be beat for the money, they make Snap Ons split beams which they charge $400+ for. For 1/4" I just ordered a Wurth, used one at factory training and liked it because it is so small. Most of the time I need to torque something in the 5-20nm range it's in too tight of a space to use something like the Snap On digital which is larger than my 3/8 split beam.
>>
>>16156667
CDI torque wrenches are made by Snap On for a fraction of the price.

otherwise don't.

When road has really poor grip, like black ice under snow, you should use "ice"/"winter" mode to manually force gearbox to use 2ND gear instead of 1St.

Or downshift before overtake if you have shitty automatic that takes ages to shift gears.

replace it with a grade 8 or class 10.9 bolt from reputable auto parts/ hardware/ fastenal/ wherever. im sure ford sells it, but its not likely they will stock it at the stealership. you might have to wait a couple days.

also im not a ford tech, but i have been a mechanic for 16 years

Thoughts on old audis(especially coupe)?
How tune-able are the I5 engines, do they handle turbo kits good etc
11 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>16156042
The inline 5 engines are fucking insane. Get a 20V, drop some forged pistons and rods in as well as a hotter cam, add a turbo and you're looking at a pretty easy 700+hp. It's like a 2JZ with one cylinder less and it sounds like a Group B rally monster.
>>
They're fucking great, but anyone with both Quattro and the I5 in his car knows he can ask a pretty price for it.
>>
>>16156072
Good thing I live in europe where they even the quattros are fairly cheap, but finding a 20v engine is nigh on impossible, but 10v are plenty

Hey /o/, does anyone here /audi/?

Drive an 01 IS300 now, damn reliable car. Quite boring however. Looking for an upgrade, and have considered options like 350z, Boxster, modded GTI, etc. But for some reason, I keep wanting to buy an S4. I've owned a German car before, so I know what it's like to pay out the ass for maintenance every week and a half. But the S4 seems like a whole different beast

>muh V8
>muh 340hp
>muh AWD
>muh 18-24mpg (same as my 3.0 I6 somehow?)
>muh aesthetic

I know these cars have an issue with a timing chain being placed in the back towards the firewall, which must be replaced every 80k miles (and very expensively), or you'll experience catastrophic failure, but other than that I can't seem to find too many other problematic areas. Anyone have any input? Buying premium gas wouldn't be a problem, and AWD would be nice in the winter, just don't want to be financially ruined by spending $2,000 on maintenance every month.

Quite possibly the worst used Audi you can buy, the B6 S4 has a habit of dropping random 9+k service bills on you out of nowhere.

The problem is the engine. Audi had been making 4.2l V8s for a while, and used them for the higher-end A6 and A8 (as well as the S6 and S8) models. Generally pretty good engines, but they used timing belts which required the entire front of the vehicle to come off if they needed to be replaced.
People complained.
Audi listened.
They switched to chains, which were supposed to be a "lifetime" component. Then they decided to put the timing components on the back of the engine, to save space and because they weren't supposed to be maintenance items anyway.

What they didn't realize was that while the chains themselves may last a "lifetime", the plastic guides and tensioners don't. They wear, and crack, potentially throwing the timing completely off and grenading the engine.
This can happen anywhere between 50k and 200k miles. The only sign it might happen soon is a slight rumble coming from behind the engine on startup.

Want to get these guides and tensioners replaced? Front has to come off, engine has to come out, all timing components have to be replaced. Costs about 9 grand at a shop.
Want to do it yourself? The rebuild kit alone costs 3 grand, and you'll need a proper workshop and a lot of time.

Other than that, little things like electronics, water pumps, sensors, you know the drill. The screen in the gauge cluster might be missing a few lines, too.
Oh, and avoid the auto. They're fragile as shit.

And I just realized this whole wall of text was for nothing because you know about the timing chains already. Oh well.
>>
I have a question as well

I want to pick up a 2012 A6, but I want to know what maintenance is like. How much do you people put into maintenance?
>>
Since the guy above me already listed what i was gonna say I'm just gonna add a few extra words.

The timing chain is a lifetime component, but then again not due to the reasons the guy above me listed. My dad has had his 2006 B7 A4 3.0TDI quattro auto for a very long time, and he has had little to no problems. The 3 litre V6 diesel engine has a timing chain aswell (Well four chains actually, audi changed this the year later i think because its really too complicated). Anyways he has changed his oil EVERY 6K miles, and flushes his gearbox atleast once a year. He keeps a record of everything from when he fills it with diesel, how much he put in, how much the odo was etc. Aswell as every single thing done to the car from maintainence bills to small replacement parts. He loves to take care of his things, and as a result the car is still mint. My point is that if you're gonna buy something, have the patience to wait for that one car who was owned by a guy who loved it, took care of it and had a genuine interest of putting the required amount of time and money into the car.
