there's not really much to go wrong, and if you can't tell when shit is slowly starting to break then you need to git gud

You can read out some things earlyer than you would realise them like a slightly off air/fuel ratio or a wrong ignition timing or carbon deposits on your piston/cylinderhead/valves if you know what you have to look for.
Also you won´t lose anything by having a OBDII port.
By listening to a lot of broken cars you already know what's wrong with.
>OBD2 is a magic device that will diagnose any problem for you!

please explain how having an OBDII unit allows you to know if your valves have carbon deposits.
>>16156046
You can read it out by looking at the ignition timing wich will be early since the deposits will get your engine to knock.
>>16156063
that won't show you the amount of buildup, and carbon deposits don't make your engine knock. detonation won't be caused by that.

after ~3 years you will have had to replace every major component at least twice. By then you'll be pretty good at fixing/repairing cars
