What are some nice aesthetic mods I can do to my car without it being rice? It's just...one of those cars. I was looking to pic related for inspiration, but it's a little OTT.

I don't mean necessarily doing things too radical, but what about just removing the shitty econobox-spec plastic trim?

That shit is the worst... luckily it only happens once or twice at the start & end of winter

Its even more shit when you work in ski lifts and you cant start any chair lifts before you've knocked every single chair & its clamps clean of ice, and every single t-bar/button lift needs their shit knocked as every single bar is iced down and dragged to the ground

I'm currently in 6th form (it's like the next tier of qualifications between University and High School) and I just have absolutely no motivation to continue...I'm not retarded, I have always done quite well at school and haven't ever failed a subject, but I just find this stage of education incredibly tedious and disorganised. All I really want to do is work on my car and learn more about them, but I feel like that would just be a waste of my talents and cap my potential. Anyone have any advice or are in a similar situation?

If you want to be a mechanic you can do that without wasting time and money on school. If it's something you are TRULY PASSIONATE about, and not just wanting to do it because it seems neat, then go for it. If you're just some kid who knows nothing about them currently "But sure would like to learn!" then get off your ass and go to college for anything BUT cars. You'll just end up dropping out and smoking meth.

The thought crossed my mind to go and do a course that would set me up to be a mechanic, but they're really underpaid where I live and since it's the UK, I would be working on really uninspiring cars...
>>
>>16548862
But it's a paying step forward. You can spend 4 semesters or more learning about one specific type of car or every day of your life working on all types of cars. Being a mechanic is a trade that can't truly be taught in a classroom. I got a buddy who went to college for a semester and a half and thinks they know everything and tries doing everything by the book and fucks it up 100% of the time. On the flip side I've never been in a classroom and have told him and my brother in law what was wrong with their vehicles without even popping the hood due to hands on experience.

I need your knowledge /o/.

I just recently got my drivers licence and inherited my grandpa's 99 Megane. It's great but the radio beeps every two seconds saying code on every beep and I can't enter the code because the steering controls just change the station when I push the wheel. On some forums people said to do a factory reset but it didn't help at all. Thought about just getting an aftermarket radio but I'm not sure that it will work with the steering controls. I am an eurofag if that matters. How should I go around fixing the beeping and is it possible to use steering controls with an aftermarket radio?

>>
I'm no expert in any sense of the word, but if your car has a 1-DIN/2-DIN radio then the steering wheel controls are hooked up to the radio, so they should work with the new radio aswell

Atleast, thats how I think it works, dont quote me on it
>>
>>16548610
If those 1-DIN/2-DIN images that I can find on google images are correct the connection is round, correct? There is only one round connection and I believe that is the antenna.

women dont operate on facts. you gotta understand this or you'll just frustrate yourself. They operate on emotions. If she likes it then she likes it. Highly unlikely she'll change her mind unless say one of her girlfriends thinks its ugly or had a bad experience in one.

I don't know anything about cars, besides components like "engine" and "radiator" at their most basic conceptual level.

How long will it take me to reach a normie/slightly above normie understanding of what goes on under the hood?

There's endless information online but I need a linear start and finish point for the basics.

I don't drive, so I don't have a car. But I'm working on getting myself on the road in the next year.

>How long will it take me to reach a normie understanding
you already have a normie understanding of how a car works

>I need a linear start and finish point for the basics
Not really possible.

How I leaned about cars when I was young was reading build thread on forums. Just go to google and search [car you are interested in] build thread. It will have pictures and a description of what it going on in the pictures. That way you will familiarize yourself with the parts and general modding practices. As for learning. Anything that you don't know or understand just google it. there is a wiki page or other articles for just about everything.

Ex normalfag here what u have to do is autismo study cars and engine tear downs on the jewtewb and games like automation and street legal racing redline taught me so much then go buy a shitbox and a bunch of tools and go nuts.

Worked for me
>>
I barley knew anything about cars 3 years ago, what i did was start with learning how an engine works. Then i watched youtube videos of engineers explaining different functions of a car, and then i moved on to watching cringey mighty car mod videos. After that i ended up here just constantly making fun of FWD, automatic cars, and miatas.

automotive newbie here, why is a high revving engine good/better ?
36 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
>>16547915
For the car its bad, if you want to preserve the car's engine don't rev high

If you want to accellerate fast and have fun, rev high
>>
>>16547915
The higher you can rev the more or an engine can make if airflow allows it
>>
>>16547915
It isn't always a better thing. Low-revving engines can also perform very well. For instance, the Dodge Viper has a very low redline at around 6000 RPM, but it has a very flat torque curve and consistent performance across its entire revband.

Whereas, say, a Ferrari 458 has a low-displacement V8 that revs to like, 9600 RPM, and it can make more power out of less displacement by simply spinning faster.

The mathematical answer is that higher RPM will increase the horsepower coefficient, but you can achieve the same effect using high stroke and low revs by just generating a lot of torque.

Why the fuck does this car have to be so dependable?

I can drive this thing like a motherfucker and it gets me 33 mpg around town every time. I can check the oil constantly and after 6k miles since the last change, it's still fine. The only issue it's ever had was AC, mechanically it feels the same as when we brought it into the family 8 years ago. I want to get something different with a standard transmission but I'm having trouble justifying it. Would I be an idiot for getting a GTI or something along those lines, because "muh fun turbo" when this thing is 15 years old, costs me next to nothing, and shows no signs of trouble?

Help me /o/, I've thought hard about this and really want a different car that I can be proud of, but I can't pull the trigger on it

There is honestly never much reason to have anything besides a corolla, civic, or mazda3 for personal transport. Aside from a motorcycle of course.
>>
>>16547867

Honestly, just buy a motorcycle, anon.

They are cheap, fun and will offer something that your car doesn't, all the while said car maintains it's place.
>>
Not really - its your choice

If you want something more fun then you get something more fun. What WOULD be stupid is selling a dependable car and using all your money on something a bit more risky, and ending up with a broken down car and $9 in change
