The aero for the factory WRC teams is now as ridiculous as it was in the FIA Group B era. And the cars have been much faster than Group Bs were since the late 1990s. Will the WRC finally end up being a successful series? Will people start to give a shit about rally? They have the best drivers in the world, the best roads in the world, and possibly the most advanced cars in the world.
>>16519945
Maybe more people will pay attention to WRC if the cars were derived from more interesting or exotic cars rather than economy shitboxes.
>>16519986
they just share the name and some visual feature it's not the same car at all
>>16519986
>similar to the road car
Name one person willing to spend $300,000 on a road going hatchback
I'll wait.
If you want road going rally cars, the WRC has that with Group N. They all race at the same event.
I used to have a lot of money and would pay to have all maintenance done to my car but certain things happened in life and now i'm tight on money. So I decided to do the maintenance myself to save cash.
About 3-4 days ago I decided I would get some Dot 3 brake fluid for my clutch and brakes. This would be my first time changing it myself. Both brake fluid and clutch fluid were completely black. I didn't have the tools to bleed it through the bottom and do it properly so I just got a turkey baster and sucked up from the clutch fluid reservoir as much as I could and filled it up while afterward pumpin the clutch.
I then I took the cap off the brake fluid reservoir and couldn't get the filter out because of how my cars made and there was nothing on the outside of the reservoir that I could find to access it so i just sucked up what i could and poured some brake fluid back up to the Max level.
A few days after doing this my caliper locked up and is scraping the rotor with a big ring around it now I have to replace my brakes, rotors, and calipers on the front wheels. Was this a coincidence or did I cause this?
>pic related
>>16544947
Probably a coincidence. I don't know what you mean by filter in your brake reservoir though, there's no filter in your brake system. Unless you mean a random plastic thing that was underneath the actual cap. But if you fluid was straight black it was dirty so this may have been bound to happen anyway. Also what caused the lock-up? If it was the caliper piston locking up then you definitely needed to do more than a full bleed. If your sliders locked up then no amount of brake bleeding could have prevented it anyways, it's a completely different system.
>>16544963
I'm not sure if it was the piston or not.
>>16544963
That rotor also looks like your pads completely gone, my guess is your sliders froze, this caused one brake pad to wear more than the other then metal on metal contact happened once the pad wore away and that's when you noticed it.
sup o so i have a 2002 audi tt and the CEL keeps turning on every fuckng week and the guys at autozone are starting to give me dirty looks when i go ask them to check it for me and dont buy anything
so whats a good, cheap scanner that will work on this car for diagnostics?
5$, elm327 bluetooth adapter.
>>16544596
How about fixing the fucking problem?
>>16544603
Not this. Get the Bafx Bluetooth obd2 adapter on Amazon and torque pro for your Android phone
>audi
>CEL every week
Like clockwork.
Is there a six-speed manual transmission 2013 Kia Forte? Apparently there is something called a six-speed shiftable automatic, and I'm worried this might be it. This is the car I found on craigslist.
http://monterey.craigslist.org/cto/5923832339.html
>>16544558
There is a 6 speed manual. There is also a 6 speed automatic.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kia_Forte#Powertrains
"shiftable automatic" it's just a normal automatic.
>>16544558
If you buy that I will come kill you.
>tinted tails
>those wheels
>kia
It's a shit car. Just get a civic for 3k.
>>16544752
What's wrong with the tale and wheels
Is there some kind of secret occult mechanic only they know about? How do you even become such a mechanic in the first place?
The dealer and licenced shops.
>>16544205
You are so dumb.
>>16544205
are you fucking stupid? there's exotic car dealers, which strangely also have service departments. huh. how bout that
Can I just pump my parking brake until i get them fixed? (manual transmission and i'm only driving around in town, no highways)
I've been using my parking brake to make stops in town, I shift to neutral before doing it, will this fuck my car up or no since i'm only going between 10-30 mph
You should just get that shit fixed, Anon.
Using engine braking and the handbrake is okay, but your brakes are there for a very good reason.
>>16544098
yeah i will but in the meantime it be ok? works quite well actually :D
>>16544098
>>16544120
well if you have to stop hard you will be fucked, try to take of this shit as soon as you can anon.
I have a budget of 5k and I'm looking for another car. My budget is a little flexible and is 5k. My local Craigslist is newyork.craigslist.org/search/cta
I would prefer:
>2+2
>Coupe
>Rear wheel drive
>Preferably manual, but automatic is fine for the right vehicle
This vehicle is going to by my daily driver. I'm in school to be a mechanic and I work on motorcycles in the warm season. The closest to what would be ideal would be a C126 560SEC, but I just wanted to see if there were any other options to that car. I've already owned a W126 560SEL and that was an interesting experience.

Another car to replace your current one or are you getting a second one?
Do any of you faggots know how the rev limiter works on motorcycles? I know car's cut fuel so it causes a jerking sensation as the car rapidly switches from full throttle to engine braking, but how do motorcycles do it? Particularly sport bikes...I am guessing the jerking sensation would be pretty detrimental when you're in a corner or some shit and you accidentally hit the rev limiter
Probably spark cut, so you'll see it spit flames from the unburnt fuel.
>>16543374
same way
>carbs cant flow enough fuel/cam not aggressive enough for high rpm, engine won't rev more
>ECU not programmed to work above certain RPM, will not send signals to injectors
>>16543374
>jerking sensation
My car doesn't do that at all. Running into the rev limiter is so smooth, if you didn't hear the engine screaming you'd be wondering why it stopped accelerating.
>tfw when you own this but it's not a turbo
Biggest turds ever. Even in turbo
>>16542728
They're cool tho
>>16543133
No they arent.
Only white trash own them
Mexicans wont even touch them.
Who is the king of miserable, slow, boring, unlikeable penalty boxes?
>Nissan
>Mitsubishi
>Chrysler
Any econobubble.
Pretty much every single one
Renault
Peugeot
Citroen
>>16541426
I'd say mitsu since they killed the evo. At least Nissan still has Z.. For now. At least Chrysler makes the 300c. Although its screams dindu it at least says something unlike any Mitsubishi.
Are these any good?
not a smart buy desu
>fits in every parking space
>ridiculously small turning circle
>generally fun to drive in a city
>cheap to drive, especially if diesel
that's about it though. highway driving reks the engine in no time, pain in the ass to do anything on the engine, they even removed the oil drain plug at some point. unless you work at a Merc dealership and live in a city, don't do it and get a civic for 3k instead.
>>16541353
Someone has a picture of a consumer reports graph. Smart has one of the highest problems per vehicle of any brand.
How can get more power out of my 1983 Mercedes 240D? 4 cylinders, no turbo. The thing barely hits 70 mph.
If it was a turbo you'd have a lot more options, diesel tuning is easy. Buffet injectors, cams and timing is a good way to start
>>16540768
it aint a turbo tho.
Under the hood is the OM616 four-cylinder diesel engine. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_OM616 65 HP. SIXTY FIVE for a 3000 lb car.
>>16540757
You could get a better air intake for a nickel and dime of horsepower
wtf is stance
Hopefully a fad that's going away.
>>16540540
Camber and how wide your wheels are apart. Don't quote me but Im fairly certain
Nobody really knows
What's it like owning a used Mercedes Benz? I'm really considering it but I don't want to spend a lot of money on something that's going to constantly break down. I've heard BMW/Audi is known for exactly that. So basically what I'm asking is, if it has been maintained at least somewhat well and there aren't any mechanical issues, would it be a good move? I'm considering the clk in particular not sure what year tho
>>16539850
I currently own a 2009 CLK550 and have previously owned a 2003 CLK500. I picked mine up with low miles, all service records, and I had a PPI done before buying it. I've had it for 2 years and it hasn't given me any issues, just regular maintenance. If you want a CLK, look for a 2008-2009 CLK550, it's the best model of the W209, other than the Black Series. Do not buy a 2007 model, as it will have this issue: http://mbworld.org/forums/clk-class-w209/429085-m272-273-engine-cam-adjuster-magnet-balancer-shaft-sprocket-issues-dtb.html
>>16539850
>Mercedes: Reliable for a long time but when something breaks, it's big and will cost you big
>BMW: Reliable most of the time but will have little things, parts cost isn't too bad
>Audi: Get ready to get fucked hard
So if you want problems few and far between but expensive when they happen, Mercedes. If you want little inexpensive things happening occasionally, BMW.
But for god-sake don't get an Audi.
You get a call from your old friend Scotty Kilmer, he tells you he's decided to do an engine swap on a shitbox of your choice. He tells you that so long as fitting it is within the realm of possibility, he's happy to drop any engine you like into any car you like, so long as from the factory that car made less than 250bhp.
What car and engine are you going with?
>>16539341
c3 corvette
Only made 160hp stock
Thanks, boosh.
I'll tell him to fuck off' say that hes no longer a relevant mechanic youtuber, then tell him that ChrisFix is a far better mechanic than he is just to have him spit autisticly. And to add salt to the wounds, ill send him an image of a Mercedes symbol to make him disintegrate into ash, as the symbol is to harsh for his senile eyes to withstand.
>>16539349
Yeah the smog C3s only made that much. But the earlier vettes made much more even when you account for converting Gross-Net HP. The earlier vettes also look better IMO
