Where does /o/ buy new tires?
Do you get them online, or go to a local shop?
Install yourself, or pay some other asshole to do it?

What? You want amazon to send 4 tires to your front door?

Help me please /o/. So I'm looking to upgrade my car but I know jack shit about cars, reliability, practicality, etc. I currently have a 2011 Honda CRV. Don't care about make or model, I'd prefer something new or low mileage if used, decent gas mileage, something that won't break or cost me a lot to get fixed. I love how comfy my honda is and I'm considering getting a newer model but I want to be open about other options. I drive almost 2 hours a day so something comfy would be nice. I have a budget of $25000 give or take.

Honda crv are noted for their reliability however newer models will all have the cvt transmission which aren't really known for reliability due to their excessive moving parts.

Otherwise the crv is a great car. Other comparable models are the Toyota rav4, the Nissan rogue, Hyundai sonata, etc

Honda makes a new midsized suv called the hrv, stay away from it it'd awful
>>
>>16741056

Look at the Nissan versa. Hits all the things u mentioned and is 11k brand new (msrp)

Holy fucking shit boys. This little faggot may have just saved my life. I was on the highway and this commercial vehicle had trash flying out the top of it all over the road. This civic driver next to me had a huge piece of cardboard flying straight for his windshield so he swerves without looking to the left right into me.

At the last second, I swerve left too by jerking the wheel and I legitimately lost control of my vehicle for a second. Scared the fucking shit out of me. Fortunately, the ultra-low center of gravity, the massive sticky 205 Dunlops, my sway bars, and coilovers were able to manage the sudden jerk and I regained control. I was going around 75MPH when this happened.

Any other regular car, I would have been dead for sure.

I even called 911 after this happened to report that commercial truck. Fuck him

>swerving
you deserve to have gone off the road
And if you weren't side by side or in the blind spot of the civic then he wouldnt have swerved into you
>>
>>16740887
I wasn't in the blind spot. My car is part of the #solow gang so it's hard to see in most vehicles
>>
>>16740903
So you were side by side with him.
Its a fucking civic not a dump truck

I've previously posted a story about my family's old Golf 2 that landed in the hands of my uncle and then well, kind of killed.

Today I've hit him with an offer to buy it. He said that pretty much it's pointless to do so and he'll save me a few bucks and just proceed to junk it, after insisting a little bit he said "We'll see".

Now that there's at least a spark I can let wear off so I'll have to pursue him the upcoming days so I know the Golf lends in the good yard.

Here are known problems so far:
-electrical part is kaputt (he's been vague about it, mostly resumed to "it caught fire and haven't started since")
-one sidemirror is broken and was replaced with one from another car
-interior pretty much destroyed
-central locking (which I can't confirm it was native to the car) removed

Here's the thing. I know it would probably be financially wise to just buy another Golf, but it's not the same thing. I was about 9 or so when we first had the car and to my enjoyment it was one of the quite few cars we didn't lose track of after selling.
I want it working and damn right I want to drive it.

Any tips or advice /o/? I'll be looking to convince my uncle to sell it back to me.
Pic-related is what it was years ago when still working. I have better pictures with it, but they are burried in some CDs.

Don't pay him anything, just rent a uhaul car dolly and cart it off. If he gives you any shit, tell him to fuck off and be glad it's gone. You can sort out the title and shit when it's running. Take a mechanic's lien against the repairs you've done to the car+storage fees in case he tries to claim that it's still his once you've fixed it.

Your uncle is a asshole, don't let him wring you for cash over a ancient shitcan VW.
>>
>>16740662
You know I actually was on good terms with my uncle and the car was actually rightfully bought by him (minus paperwork, we just kept old documents with my dad being the owner for the sake of convenience).

The only actual problem with my uncle is that he is a chronic car ruiner, having managed to break most cars that landed on his hand.

I'll try to jew with him and see if I can just take it (main goal would be to just beat the shit price the junkyard would pay him for) or get a bargain price.
>>
>>16740705
The fact that he won't give you a worthless car for free is what makes him an asshole. Just take it.

Nothing
Just less engaging than a manual transmission
>>
>>16740465

I wonder that same thing. I have an 8speed automatic and it gets

> way better fuel economy (can go "eco" turning 4 of the 8 cylinders off)

>the manual option was a $2,200 dollar addition so mine was cheaper

> the automatic is faster than the manual counterpart
And
> I won't have to pay to replace clutches, ect. over time
>>
>>16740465
Nothing wrong really, just boring.
>>16740601
You don't need the replace clutches if you drive correctly. also clutches don't cost too much.

I got a question, my brakes got super stiff the other day. I originally thought it was just a bad brake booster but upon further inspection there was a gash in a vacuum hose/line going from the break booster to the engine so I patched it up but my brakes didn't get any softer. Did I just do a really shitty job at patching it or will a small crack make me lose all of the power in my brakes?

You couldn't just spring the 20 bucks absolute max for a new hose? Also, barring that, check and make sure your check valve isn't stuck.

I'm thinking about getting one of these. What are the pros and cons? Are the head gaskets on Subaru's actually shit or is it a meme? Should I get a n/a or turbo? Help a brother out senpai.

You should probably worry more about 4th cylinder lack of lubrication. It's a meme among russian Subaru community. Also main troll theme. EJ20 engine.
>>
>>16738646

Fellow Kiwi and ex-subi owner here.

What year B4 are you looking at getting mate?

The lack of 4th cylinder oil is probably more of a concern that the headgasket meme.
>>
>>16738646

secondary turbo solenoid takes a shit, you can get B4 here in Canada for under $4000 all day long because people import them and when the secondary turbo blows they dont want to drop the coin on a single turbo setup

headgaskets arent a meme, i was a mechanic for years and they pop headgaskets all the time. IMO the Subaru boxer engine is a poor design, only Subaru ive owned are the ones with straight 4 engine

I need some assistance /o/. I've managed to put myself into the appropriate financial situation to dispose of my current shitbox but don't know what to settle on to replace it with. I like the idea of getting an MX-5 because it sounds fun, but it seems horribly impractical. I like the Golf but I don't like that it's FWD. Are there any recommendations that you can make that fall somewhere between those two?

I was in the same situation as you last year. I moved to Kurwaland and was looking at golfs and Mazda 3 at the time. In the end I bought an nb miata and never regretted it. If you have no family yet and have friends who might help you move big stuff go for it.
