Alright.. I just inherited my dad's 2007 Sentra. I can't sell it (not that it's worth a lot) so I figured I'd make it a formidable vehicle, but I don't know where to start.
It's just a base model, CVT transmission, shitty tires, squeaky brakes, check engine light is on, tire light is on, 180k miles and makes a strange humming sound while idling.
Ik it's been dealership serviced most of it's life, but I still don't really know if it's mechanically sound because ik very little about cars other than what I've seen on screen.. Help me out /o/??
Find out what the check engine light is for starters
maybe replace the head unit with something better
other then that drive and maintain it, it has no performance potential
>>16759249
Btw, I'm not really sure what to do. The only options I can see are:
>Make it mechanically sound and properly maintain it until I can afford a vehicle I actually want.
Pros- I'll learn how to properly maintain a vehicle and work on it as necessary. I'll have a reliable decent driving vehicle until I can buy a car I actually wanna have. When I do get a second vehicle, I'll have something decent to drive while I work on it.
Cons- the money it will cost could go towards something I actually want. It's kind of garbage already so it feels silly to spend more money on it. I feel like it's nearing the end of its lifespan, so I should just save that money for something else in case it shits itself.
>Make it a project car, swap with an engine that has lower mileage (maybe the engine from the top of the line model), a modest turbo, exhaust, and suspension upgrades. Then maintain.
Pros- it'll be a more formidable vehicle. I'll be more familiar with its inner workings and again, gain much needed and desired experience. I won't feel the urge to get rid of it Everytime I look at it, and it might actually be fun to drive.
Cons- same as before.
>Save all my money and run it into the ground, then buy something I actually want.
Pros- I'll have what I want sooner.
Cons- still will be inexperienced when it comes to working on cars, this will affect how my new car is taken care of. If I ever decide to work on my new car or if it breaks down, I'll have a heaping pile of shit to rely on. Dad will hate me.
How do I find out what it is? From my uneducated observations, I smell hot rubber when I'm driving sometimes (particularly with the air conditioning on) but the engine heat gauge is normal. It also makes strange humming and whining sounds that it didn't used to make. When he first got it he loved how quiet it was, now it sounds like a V6 pickup.
I'm afraid the issue will cost $2-3k to fix, and for that price I could find something I won't be ashamed to drive.

I am doing a head count for sticker orders to get an ESTIMATE. You have a choice of black, or white official sticker
We also have a die cut, however that is on a custom order basis, more details on that will be out later.

Should I buy a Twingo or a Toyota Corolla GTS? Which is the better car and why?

What did they mean by that? It's on the subaru legacy page. There are people who actually drive with the seat all the way down?
>>16758432
How else are you going to have that sweet, sweet car sex?
That and power naps on long trips.
wtf captcha is a goose
>>16758432
Why is the headrest like that? Shouldn't it be angled back or upright to make it possible to sit up straight? Or is it concave and I just don't see it?
ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
idiots, all those cars deserve to fall. Do people really just leave their car in neutral and walk away?
>>16758413
Whaa?
How did these people get driving licenses? Collected coupons off the back of a cereal box?
why the fuck is there a lamp post in the middle of a parking space?
So somebody offered me a 2005 rx8 6 speed manual as a trade for my 2000 tacoma. I only have 1400 in the Tacoma but would this be a good trade? I don't want to buy it and have it blow up immediately. Red pill me on the dorito /o/
You simply dont
>>16757936
>dorito engine
>ever
>>16757936
Why you wanting to get rid of a tacoma?
Nothing wrong with an RX8. Many go well beyond 200k, but you cant expect it to be without some maintenance
I don't know much about cars.
I drive them around a lot and have about 200 to 300k km of experience.
I would like to pick up track driving.
What do I do besides getting a suitable beater?
I'm unlikely to ever want to race.
>>16757884
>I drive them around a lot and have about 200 to 300k km of experience.
>200 to 300k km of experience.
wut.
>>16757900
I have driven cars somewhere between 200k and 300k km so far.
I tough it might be relevant for getting advice.
It's a pretty stupid and general question desu.
But so far my plan is purchase beater car;go to track.
>>16757884
>I would like to pick up track driving.
>I'm unlikely to ever want to race.
Tracks dont let people just cruise around on them.
Since AWD gives better acceleration usually, could I find something like a 4X4 square body, put something big and nasty under the hood and have sort of a race truck? Or is the difference between 4WD and AWD that big?
>>16757045
>race
>truck
pick one, and ONLY one.
>>16757045
You can't use 4WD on clear pavement without eventually blowing up your transmission. You can use it on a high power truck on street tires since you'll be spinning tires all the way down the strip, but you'd be faster for cheaper by throwing your race tires in the back of a 2WD truck.
>>16757045
>Since AWD gives better acceleration usually,
I think Newton would disagree with you there. Force gives acceleration, not grip.
>Can I do a 4WD race truck?
No. Driveline windup would quickly kill it.
>Can I do a racetruck?
Probably, but not with your basic understanding of (automotive) physics.
Now git out.
Sound system question.
I just bought a new car and want to move my subs into it. as well as add a 4 channel amp. To save space I want to put the amps in the spare tire well so I was thinking about putting it on an mdf board and running it like this. Any tips or critisim? the RCA cables would run from the LC7I left side under the board to the Eq on the right then off the eq to the mono right side and to the 4 channel on the left, also under the board. The sound from the stock amp would run down the left side of the car along with the tirgger wire and the power would run up the right side. with the power and ground running down the middle of the board. sorry for the shitty ms-paint esq picture.
speaker wire would be running out the center up as well.
Capacitors are meme-tier, don't waste your money.
Have you thought about mounting the amps underneath the driver/passenger seat? You can mount them on MDF and add a little lip to prevent idiot rear passengers from kicking them. I'd be concerned about space and heat in the spare wheel well... plus you know, not having a spare wheel and all
>>16756511
If it was a sedan I would just put them I the back side of thre rear seats
On a wagon just see if theirs a space that's covered and just put it in there
Else under glove boxes theirs heaps of room
Take an old Zcar and lets say you gave it coil overs, a brake up grade some performance wheels/tires and had it putting out 270hp. How would it stack up against modern sports cars like the FRS,Genisis coupe, s2000 and stuff like that. Would It be competitive?
>>16756335
Not very well doesn't this car predate power steering?
>>16756339
Yeah they don't have power steering but that doesn't matter much when the car only weights 2200 lbs and as long as you are moving you wouldn't have any issues with turning the wheel.
>>16756335
In terms of lap times, it's not your best starting point. Driving a gutted tin can with seats mounted right over the rear axle and a screaming carbureted inline 6 up front through a twisty mountain road is a transcendent experience, though. I'm not sure I'd say it's more fun than my Miata, but it's something that's so incredible that it's impossible to accurately describe.
You should do it.
