Well shit. Just finished watching the final episodes and as it turns out this series was damn good.
Early on I was worried it would turn into another Wing-style nigh invincible Gundam team series but that didn't come close to happening. The Gundams got trashed a number of times and upgraded or rebuilt completely and their pilots weren't super aces either. Avoiding the whole one faction vs faction and just exploring the ruined earth was a great premisewhich I'm glad and amazed they stuck with for more than half the series. Got some good to great characters out of it to like the doc. Really, the Freedens non-combatant crew got a good deal more development and cool parts than say, the poor schlubs helming the White Base.
The last bits definitely did feel rushed, you could tell there really were supposed to be more episodes in space. And Pala deserved at least some earth adventure episodes and time to gel with the main cast. May have been to the series benefit though, not having an extended full-on war arc and instead keeping the feel of adventure the rest of the show was about. Satisfying ending though that last scene...didn't see that coming.
Also really appreciated the "evolving" OPs which only ZZ had done prior to this, and only once as opposed the several times X did it. Both main OPs are pretty hype and the EDs are okay, but made better by using that space for the episode previews.

In the Universal Century, what mobile suits would you remove or merge to cut down on the clutter? Which would you keep? Particularly for the OYW. Lets say any mobile suit from the original series gets to stay. You would be able to rewrite the development history to accomodate any changes you made, and make slight redesigns.
Zaku I: Seems fine. You have the standard Zaku I, Sniper and Commander-type.
Zaku II: I would remove the C and/or A Type Zaku II so there's just one (if any) early version of the Zaku II. The MS-06G could still be around as an upgrade package to bring them up to spec with the Gouf. The Zaku II HiMo series are a bit too iconic to be removed, and can serve as both an upgrade package, used before the Rick Dom is introduced and as the predecessor to the Gelgoog. The Zaku Tank, Cannon, Desert, Marine, Recon and Flipper would get to still exist.
Everything else would go.
Gouf: I'd keep the A, B, B-3 and Flight Types.
Dom: There's too many 'next-gen' Doms. Just have it be the (Rick) Dom and Dom Cannons. The next-gen Dom could be the (Rick) Dom II, developed as part of the UMP and featuring the vulcan guns of the Dowadge.
Gelgoog: A, B, & C Types are all that's needed.
The Galbaldy would exist but no other Pezun Project MS would. Kampfer, Xamel and a few other one-offs like the Efreet series would exist too.
Amphibious: Acguy, Z'Gok, Zock, Z'Gok E, Gogg, Hygogg.
GM: GM, GM Command, GM Cannon, GM Sniper Custom, GM Sniper II, Armored GM, GM Ground Type, Aqua GM

Yeah, but nowhere near as much. I suppose the GM Cannon could be removed if the Guntank MPT & Guncannon MPT would still be a thing. Maybe remove the Sniper Custom and have the GM Sniper II just be the "GM Sniper".
Zaku II F, J, G, R2, R3, K, D, M, E-3. That doesn't look so bad if you remove the Recon and don't count the Tank, since it's an improvisational model.
Maybe have only one or two Gouf Flight-Types.
That would be around two dozen MS, which is a lot less from the dozens of canon Zeon MS.
