I haven't seen any Rebirth movie in years and I can't be asked to read summaries, so for the longest time I thought Death Ghidorah grew from the bit of tail Cretaceous G lost, and that the producers/directors tried to tie the movies closer together. I gave that series far too much credit as a kid.

Have you already checked some of the "classics" like Steve Ryfle's Japan's Favorite Mon-Star or either edition of David Kalat's A Critical History and Filmography of Toho's Godzilla Series? There's also The Kaiju Film by Jason Barr, released not too long ago.
