This meme... It can change the world, it can bring world peace, it can kill donald trump, it can do anything as long as you start sharing it to the whole world! I dont care how you do it, the only thing that matters is that you actually do it.

I find both about equally difficult. They just have different sets of problems to them and require different handling. Women are more difficult to get variety in their faces though. If you accentuate something incorrectly people accuse you of drawing them too manly, even if it is well within the norm of actual women's face. For example, and defined jaw structure is seen as masculine and a fuck up if you put it on a woman, but there are many women that exist with strong jawlines. With men it is quite easy to vary the structure for different face types once you have some idea of the anatomy and planes of the head.

Don't u guys realize that this board is pointless for real art.

Everyone here keeps circlejerking the idea that in order to be good at creating art you just have to know how to draw anatomy. There's no actual artistic discussion here. It's all about how accurately you can match a picture of reality. But there's more to art than that.
Am I the only one that thinks this?
If you disagree please let me hear u and we can talk.

I agree and Iv'e been outside my room. It's different out there but I myself am studying anatomy as a want instead of a need.

Are there any drawing guides on how to draw sexual things like the benis, butts, boobs, etc?

"Drawing Guides"? You should be drawing from reference and improve your visual library that way.

But I suppose ol' Doxy, that scamp, has an iniative where he posts tutorials every week. A lot have to do with boobs n butts and shit.

What a shit guide.

Is the Pelvis the single most difficult part of the skeleton to draw? I've been tackling it for a while now and I can't seem to be able to simplify it into major forms. I've Frankensteined a few methods for drawing it using 2D shapes like circles and guesses using curved lines. The Sacrum seems to be the only easily simplifiable shape as it's essentially a box in perspective, which I can work with- but the ischium and the ilium are fucking impossible to simplify for me. Not to mention the gender dimorphism that I'd need to learn.

What do you guys suggest? I want to be able to draw the kneecap but I can't do that if I don't understand the underlying thigh muscles, and those are all connected to the pelvis.

It's right there op. You know what it looks like, you should be able to draw it. It's fucking bone, it only has one consistent shape.

Oi, I need you to tell me everything wrong with this so I can fix it and learn.
>>
I have two old animatics I can redo (they both desperately need it) but I can't decide on which one I want to do first
They're both around the same length and are both similar projects (animation timed to music).

One is an fake anime OP for some of my characters (I ran into audio sync issues when I exported it and couldn't fully fix it)
https://youtu.be/e6r2kqbX2yA
And the other is a Steven Universe parody
https://www.dropbox.com/s/mfexqhkven5oob1/heya%20final.mov?dl=0

They're both very rough and I'd like to at the very least make them more presentable/ cleaner

Well first off it's too slow.

Second, is it supposed to be a sentient putty-like creature that's hopping off of a high platform onto the ground? because that's the impression I'm getting from this, not that it's a ball.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=haa7n3UGyDc

Watch this video regarding stretching and squashing. Mainly the volume of the ball being the same when you stretch and squash, like you're attempting to do here.

I would also have it stretch to where it's going rather than the iffy angle it's directing it's stretch. I would also add more frames.

When you go about practicing from books, how do you do it? Do you just do what the book tells you to or do you copy all the plates? I feel like copying all the plates would kill me but at the same time a lot of books don't have sufficient exercises.

I do 1:1. 1 straight exercise, 1 regular drawing that tries to incorporate what I've learned from the exercise.

Along with that, factor in your own proficiency. If something is easy, don't bother with it, concentrate on stuff that's hard or taxing to do.

No real right answer. Just use it in a way that benefits you the most. Don't get impatient.

A lot of books don't have exercises at all, anyway.
>>
>>2730527
pretty much this

i actually find the exercises in most art books pretty frustrating

I am still learning digital art and my current laptop is getting a bit unusable. I was thinking of upgrading to a desktop but I don't know if I should stick with 1080p or spring for a 1440p screen. Does the extra resolution help any of you or is it a wasted expense?

A good monitor is never a wasted expense. 1440p is great, the extra pixels do give you a lot more room to work with.

Hey /ic/, show your handwriting!
How do you practice your handwriting?
Which pen are you using?

Pic is my handwriting, I am using a Lamy Safari fountain pen, with a 1.1mm nib and "Rohrer & Klingner - Leipziger Schwarz" ink.
I know it's not the best handwriting you've ever seen, but that's why I am creating this thread, to improve it.

I practice slow and steady because my handwriting is shit, so I have to overwrite my muscle memory. I don't even know how to do it aside from writing on the line and straight.
>>
>>2730272
Well there are a couple of ways to do so:
You could write a little text like I did, look at what looks wrong to you and practice writing these letters.
When I practice, I sometimes just do pages of just basic strokes and some letters I often use.
My handwriting was far worse before I started.
You may also look into copying other people's styles you like and trying to replicate them. Or you could pick a certain font you like and practice writing that.

Mine is shaky and inconsistent - this is about as good as I can get without going really slowly.

Using a Sailor Pro Gear with M nib, ink is GvFC Hazelnut Brown - great for ink washes.

Can anyone explain to me the difference in how to use clipping masks and layer masks?
16 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
>>2729915
Clipping mask: use when you would use lock layer transparency but it provides extra layers for you to work on. So lay in a clean shape of your choice then paint within only that shape

Regular mask: Use as a superior way to erase from a layer since you don't permanently lose any information and can work back and forth infinitely with positive/negative and with control of opacity.

Okay I made a quick diagram to show how to use a clipping mask.

Basically you use it to paint confined within a shape. I used the example of a tree over a complex background that you want to leave intact. So you can paint the tree shape then paint within it using a clipping mask to keep it contained. Otherwise if I wanted to add shading to the tree or put something like that light line across it, I would need to carefully pay attention to start and stop my strokes before it got to the outside of the tree shape or else I will paint over my background. You can click the button to lock the transparency of a layer that wil llet you only paint within the pixels on that layer, but it is inferior because it is still manipulating that one layer, and if you use clipping masks instead you can use lots of layers and have way more control, as well as use layer modes on some of those layers.

Honestly I think my explanation in the previous post makes sense, you just aren't familiar with photoshop so the terms I am using are foreign.

For using regular masks on things it's just like using the eraser basically. Take a layer then set a mask to it and paint in black on the layer mask, you will see how it acts like an eraser. Now paint with white over those areas you painted black, and they are restored! Using an eraser just loses the information but the mask preserves it and just hides it.

WHAT do you want to draw? draw it. doesn't matter how it turns out, just start producing.

I started out drawing fantasy and it looked horrible. completely cubism monstrosities (I got better imo). Eventually, you'll gain confidence in your skills.

Also, no one can draw lines, don't worry. There's rarely a straight line in drawings. And if there are, use a ruler.
>>
>>2729283
There's ressources and all but even that seems somewhat overwhelming for a complete beginner like myself. I just don't know what should I learn first like proportions? anatomy? how to draw a face? It seems unclear to me, I think the sticky is too advanced IMO
