and working on this although something about the face is bothering me, would it be better to redraw it 3/4?
My goal today is to draw about 8 hours.
I'll reply to this thread at the end of the day with a screenshot showing whether I met this goal. Pic related.
Any other anons who want to be held accountable for time spent should get ManicTime or a similar time tracking app and comment in this thread with todays goal.
If you draw trad just use a stop watch/estimate. If you lie you're only hurting yourself, I couldn't care less.
It's not a competition, set reasonable goals for youself, even if it's just an hour or two it's better than nothing. Just strive to do better than you did yesterday.
>inb4 hours don't matter
They matter to me because I have time sensitive projects that need to get done. I'm sure other anons feel the same and having a tangible goal is helpful. If you choose to fuck around unproductively just to say you 'drew' that long then that's your own fault.
I'm closing /ic/ for now to get to work, if no one is interested I'll delete it later.
>>2854379
pointless. put work into for what its worth, not make it a job
>>2854389
>put work into for what its worth, not make it a job
if you want to do anything with art, you need to make it a job
>>2854390
right so everyone who ever wanted to do art had to draw 8 hours a day to make it a job, ok thanks anon.
I am envious of Japanese mangakas because they are able to create art along with a coherent story and craft characters, being able to grow those characters and setting that the story takes place in over years.
Your average western freelance artist will be taking on random banal jobs, making some piece for a card game, another for a movie advertising campaign, etc. If you want something similar, you have to spread your ass cheeks and hope you get into the dreadful comic industry.
Fuck man, it sucks.
>>2853993
Those mangaka were lucky. It's much more difficult nowadays to do long-running series.
>>2853997
Sure, but even the mangakas that only create a few short stories I'm envious of.
It's much cooler work than desperately trying to find as many jobs as possible. Both hustle hard to pay the bills, but only one has a lot of creative freedom.
>>2853993
It isn't as awesome as you may think. The pay is shit unless you're one of the top mangakas and they demand an insane amount of work. To the point where every single successful mangaka has had health issues from working too much, and if you ever take even a week off, everyone will get pissed off cause no new chapter. Your body will deteriorate the longer this goes on and 90% of mangaka just can't keep up the quality. The art starts getting lazier and lazier and the story turns to shit by the end, and if you start losing popularity, they'll can you as fast as possible. Look at what happened to Tite Kubo with bleach, one of the biggest mangas on the planet.
It's harder to find an audience in the west since comics lack the cultural appeal of mangos. And the majority of comics are capeshit. But there are some original graphic novels that get made and other series that smaller publishing companies support. I particularly like saga (tho I'm pretty behind) and Y the last man. The walking dead was pretty decent too and it's one of the few non cape comics that made it big. I wish comics were bigger in the west but it is what it is. I think it's probably best to do your own thing online and try to find a following online, like how Dave rapoza and dan warren are doing it with Steve lichman.
Post a better picture than this. Pro tip: you can't.

>concept art better than final product
every time
You don't have to animate concept art.
>>2847887
it would probably be easier to animate in a sketchy format than to have to make it go through clean up and color department.

>it would probably be easier to animate in a sketchy format than to have to make it go through clean up and color department.
>y tho
that probably cost easily 200 dollars

Can someone link some good brush packs for photoshop?
It boosts my confidence to draw with "actual" brushes than the regular default circles of photoshop.
Also it feels like I am making more progress using them.
I understand that brushes don't make you a better artist but it works as a sort of placebo for me, so please, if you're using any brush packs, please do recommend some.
My school laptop has one bretty good brush pack but I cant find it anymore so I could install it on my PC now that I have a decent tablet.
(broiler) I am also using pirated version of photoshop, I just want to git gud before I start paying for shit (/spaniard)
I use Sakimichan's brushes, I've even expanded upon them, editing them myself. You can find them on her DA for free.
idk what /ic/ thinks of her but anyone who can pull in $30,000 a month from Patreon must be doing something right.
>>2851605
Pandering to the lowest common denominator/ being one of the first artists to use Patreon. Copying her awful shit won't get you money.
>>2851605
Well shit might as well copy the way she wipes her ass at this point t.l you're an idiot.

Your abstract Jewish elephant seems to be an unusual way to express your inner sexual desire. More original work please.

learn to draw people for starters, like in general
Can anyone recommend some books or videos on actual design like clothes and pose etc. All I can find is how to draw shit but I would like more in depth on stuff like what specifics make a character look innocent or tough and stuff like that.
Pic unrelated
I'll start with dragon's dogma artbook, it have a lot things to re do
>>2852908
Stephen Silver had a kickstarter for a book on just that, it'll probably take a while before you can get your hands on it tho.
Character design is not that difficult to grasp, all you have to do is know your fundamentals and constantly ask yourself questions.
From the fundamentals it's mainly shape design (mind your positive and negative shapes) and shape language (soft vs sharp forms, wacky vs stable etc.) and the questions are mainly "how" and "why" - if they have a sword, they must have a scabbard; if they have a scabbard, they must have a sword (or a good explanation for its absence).
Also watch this vid to avoid a common starter pitfall.

I would like to know too. I don't 'get' how to come up with appropriate character designs without just making deviantart-tier OCs
>>2844820
that's a nice painting though, why did you work in such a small resolution
