Do you guys think that successful artists are just a bunch of yuppies?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Db4VGbK3vws
I'm not sure about illustrators, but after being in art school I just feel like I'm around a bunch of spoiled rich kids, and the teachers are just grown up versions of that.
I used to think that art was more of a rebellious thing that people did who truly didn't care about money.
In reality its just a bunch of shitty people who preach about anti-materialism and anti-capitalism only so they can live their posh spoiled lifestyles of expensive products and labor-free jobs without any guilt.
It makes me feel less angry at all the outsourcing.

Yuppies, no.
Hipsters, yes. There's a difference in the word.

Hipsters can be poor but spend a lot of their money on clothes for instance like many of my classmates.

It all depends on the school you go to but art school does attract a lot of outsiders. I've met a lot of people since i started last year that clearly have no place being here and haven't improved at all but on the other hand i've also seen people come in with lackluster skills be able to produce gorgeous work since they've been here.

Art isn't a rebellious thing people do because they don't care about money though. Sometimes it can be used for rebelliousness or protests, sending a message, etc, but a lot of artists want a career.

There's a big difference between fine artists (painters, sculptors, the ones who want to put on shows or be in museums) and career artists (graphic arts, interior design, fashion design, animation, game art, illustration) who are looking to get better and maybe get some industry insight.

Sometimes there's overlap, sometimes the difference is night and day.

But you gotta stop worrying about them and just give a fuck about yourself instead.

Anyone else have an attraction to women wearing those hospital gown things? Are those called scrubs? Or is that only for surgery? Anyway. I love it when I see grills walking around in the grocery store and whatnot wearing those things. It's so cute. Look at that qt at 0:28.... hnngggg....
>>
>>2850970
Lmfao hospital gowns are the backless things you wear in a hospital regardless of if you're there for surgery or not (It's mostly to protect your own clothes from getting messy during any exams or procedures).

The uniforms nurses and doctors wear are called scrubs hence the SHOW ABOUT DOCTORS AND NURSES CALLED SCRUBS.

Also they're the most shapeless kind of clothing ever how do you find that cute?

Is it worth it to learn to draw through eyeballing?
Do you guys always measure proportions before you draw?

Up until now I've always had to draw measuring a lot of proportions to get anything halfway correct. Now I'm wondering whether it's worth it to purposely draw without constant measuring. Then I would improve my eyeballing skills so I could eventually get by with less constant measuring.

What do you guys think?
24 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
Draw properly with measuring proportions, angles, negative spaces and all that first and once you're confident enough with that method you can start eyeballing things more seriously. As an artist you are physically developing certain parts of your brain and that takes constant effort and especially time.

shut the fuck up this is horrible information.

It's how I became a pro.

If you are not someone who naturally enjoys drawing but views it as a chore: how can you learn to enjoy the process?

I think a lot of people get in to art because they think it would be more fun than a "real job"

I've always had trouble with line art. I was never able to confidently do strokes so they would just be hasty sketches and build up and clean after (arms), but it takes forever.

Any practices I can do to stop/improve this?

Also general critic would be appreciated.

Because we should not have to make new threads or post in draw threads with our fundamental exercises.
Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.

AVOID asking unrelated questions, there is a question thread for that.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

#1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead (I recommend ShareX)

#2)
>change camera capture settings to something smaller

#3)
>send to computer and resize in MSPaint

>Thread study: Try to draw/paint the opening or any other following images.
Feel free to post your original works as well if you're trash.

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

I usually multi task ( Draw + Watch something )

It's habit I had since forever , I like to have TV noise somewhere.

But when you study for School or for anything and you multi task it decreases your efficacy while studying. Doesn't that apply while studying art for example ?

What do you guys think ?

Music is on its own , it doesn't need focusing like watching a show on your other monitor.

Of course it's bad

Drawing while having a stream of another artist drawing can be cozy.
>>
Multi tasking is horrible when you're studying anything, and art isn't an exception.
You're attempting to learn things that took the species thousands of years to figure out. Take it seriously or you will not progress.
>Music is on its own.
No, it's fucking not. Music is noise. Noise is a distraction. Distraction detracts from focus, whether you're too much of a dunce to admit it or not.
Everyone has this middle manager's view of life and success, where they're emulating the silly shit in your picture, and it's bullshit. Obsession and silence are necessary for anything worthwhile.

Are there any resource lists for finding local ateliers or common gatherings for studying art or life drawing?
I sometimes hear people mentioning random art meetups where they bring in a few models, draw, and drink for free in my state but I don't even know where to find that shit and I have no connections.
Personally I am in Oregon Portland area but it might be nice to know of any good places out of town and state too if there is a list or lookup for it.
Also feel free to post about your own experiences with this too and where you go to study up if you want.

Results for that mostly direct to shitty grandma craft stuff or some twee hipster chicks blog about how she makes soap in the french countryside or some shit in another language that isn't even about art or local places.
I don't know if google yields better results on your side but sadly it is less than decent on my side.

ask in the art book thread lad, or have a look on cgpeers maybe

Guys I think I know the secret to drawing like Kim Jung Gi.

It's very simple but at the same time hard as fuck. All you have to do is visualize the whole drawing or at least a significant portion before you draw it, and I mean visualize everything, hands, faces, gesture, design, even solving all the problems that may come up when drawing it but in your mind, and only then can you start drawing.

Listen to this: https://youtu.be/Ed1xRPjSw2I?t=4912

Opinions?

Hey guys I figured out how to box like Floyd Mayweather.

It's very simple but at the same time hard as fuck. All you have to do is visualize Every punch that will be thrown or at least a significant portion before your opponent throws them, and I mean visualize everything, hands movement, head movement, foot work, feints, even solving all the problems that may come up when a punch is thrown but in your mind, and only then can you start boxing.

Thoughts?

Is it risky using your real name for street art to showcase your art? I mean just vinyl stickers and tags. Do you do it?

It isn't if your canvas is a legal one, obviously.

If you're going to do some graff on a train, it'd be the same thing as writing "hello cops, I'm the author of this & here's my address"...
>>
No. No one uses their actual name, are you an idiot? Do you just want to put your rehashed character / name up everywhere just so people know it's the actual John Smith.

Bring something fresh to the table or don't bother at all. Ego is the worst motivation to do anything creative; you'll quit as soon as it gets tough and no one cares about what you're doing.

Pick any name that isn't taken (after doing a reasonable enough search) and then spend more time worrying about your ideas. If they're good, your alias takes on a worthwhile identity. 'Nike' or 'Apple' aren't successful because they picked those names, it's because of their product.
>>
>>2849351

>Ego is the worst motivation to do anything creative

Creating a persona doesn't magically make it not an ego thing. If you make up a new name and attach it to everything you do artistically it's still a fucking ego thing.

Using your real name instead of a made up persona is far from the definitive factor for if you're doing it out of ego.
