Does anyone have any tips, methods, or approach to rendering like Laurel Austin? Her rendering has a clean, mass appeal look, yet doesn't have the genericism of the other Blizzard artists.
Still, I can't quite put my finger on it as to what makes it look so good. Anyhow, how does one do this? Obviously no overnight results, just wondering about leads and what to learn.

Not that good but if I had to guess...
Strong grasp of form and shadow

Forgot to add, any similar artists to this rendering style?

A good friend on Deviantart :
http://kirokaze.deviantart.com/
(you might have already seen his art here, in a banner)
show one (or multiple) of your sketchbook pages.
I want to see how people connect their sketches in a creative way. Also: Do you have a certain theme? Do you have any rules for your sketchbooks? Do you allow yourself to make mistakes in your sketchbooks?
I draw whatever I want.
i draw in pen so i dont get too upset about mistakes thats what a sketch book is for ,experiments and making mistakes, you can fix them later, and i have to try to think about the lines and forms before i draw them. i try to think in boxes as well. sometimes pages will have a theme sometimes not.
Vilppu says no rules just tools....
>tfw don't even have sketchbook
I just sketch some shit on paper then if it's decent take a picture and fix or continue it digitally. I
throw a lot of paper to the trash. Was always "afraid" to ruin a sketchbook, which is pointless and quite retarded, but throwing away cheap paper feels ok. You don't commit to it.
Why do artworks today have shallow meaning and theme?
For deeper kino.
what does he mean by this?
>posts the most generic subject matter in history complete with cryptopretentious latin quote
Are there any Telegram/Discord chats for people learning how to draw? I don't care if it's full of weaboos or furries.
>>2940730
facebook has plenty of them
Looking for one in particular full of furries, thank you.
>>2940730
I'd be interested in a telegram chat.
If nobody posts one I can create one.
Who here has pro drawing tech they dont actually use that much? Got an Cintiq 24HD which I use mainly for shitposting, and also a Note 10.1 2014 which I also use mainly for shitposting, recently purchased a surface 2, which I also use mainly for shitposting...
NGMI
What's the point of wasting so much money on things you don't even use?
The only thing I bought that I haven't used (yet) is some colored pencils and a bunch of sketchbooks.
>>2939355
it's promises to myself that I'll start drawing after I purchase X
>>2939348
I have a cintiq and I still prefer to use my regular intuos, so it's just a glorified monitor.
>post your work
Has anybody ever proved their point here by posting their work?
>>2934856
Awhile back. /ic/ has a laundry list of misconceptions that posting one's work will not address. Major misconceptions.
>>2934856
I have. And even though people shit on my art, deep down they know that I'm the superior artist.

FakeBro please
Let's have a SERIOUS thread. Do you guys prefer the strict constructive method (basically what you find in Aguri's one year program, Robertson, Hampton, Peter Han etc.) or a more classic approach based way less on theory and more on grinding, life drawing etc.?
Why not both.
>>2932653
Yeah this is an option too, still I hate the constructive method, I find it too technical and I hate having to go through so many books and shit. My master at the Atelier also suggested me to mainly grind figures and take a life drawing class.
Still, I aim to go for design and mainly digital stuff, so maybe contruction could help me a lot more.
I know some basic perspective is required everywhere, just don't know if I should use it for everything or balance stuff
>>2932656
Construction is a tool to help you make drawing easier. If you can't draw a good image with construction, you sure as hell won't be able to freehand it, having to do all the perspective and anatomy stuff in your head.
This is my first attempt of trying out a realistic type of art (I did it digitally).I usually draw anime and cartoon style .Also can you help me on how to improve ? you can also post image tutorials ,thanks .
>>2940825
Draw a bust or a full body. Don't be retarded.
>>2940830
Can I look at your illustration then ?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Q7IcBvBGtY
how does /ic/ feel about reig butchering drawabox
>>2940708
Good. Drawabox is absolute shit and whoever thinks it's not is leddit. I hope drawaboxfags choke on their Scott Robertson isis regurgitation.
How come do classic painters have poor or awkward grasp of anatomy, yet are so good?
Because they used the old masters as stylistic inspiration instead of weeb shit like everyone do today.
larry birkhead
Ive been looking for this. After the comedown of my first acid trip my buddy and me found this drawing online and lost our shit. This was maybe 5, 6 years ago.
Fucking ridiculous.
are there any big differences between accd's illustration entertainment track and the school's concept design track? i am personally interested in applying to illustration.
all i'm aware of:
-concept design seems to have a higher entrance requirement/accept a lot fewer students (part of it could also be looking for "design sense" which could explain technically skilled portfolios not making the cut for lack of variation)
-concept design seems to be a lot more demanding with more graduation requirements/research-based courses, although there's nothing stopping you from doing the same courses regardless of major
-it seems historically the illustration major has produced graduates who have worked in entertainment (i'm thinking peter han, darren quach, the skillful huntsman guys, mullins), just less in the feng-zhu-design-mechs-and-alien-worlds kind of way (and even then i believe most of the older concept guys from accd did product design, as the concept design track is relatively new i think)

Current Illustration major at ACCD chiming in.
The Illustration major at ACCD didn't used to have as many tracks as it did now. During the time of Han and the other people you listed, the Entertainment Arts track wasn't as well-defined as it is now and other tracks such as Fine Art and Motion Design didn't even exist. If you go for the Entertainment Arts track in Illustration now, the focus is definitely more on that animation visual development look (Disney, Dreamworks, Pixar, etc.). Some of the most prominent teachers teaching within that track (Will Weston, Dominick Domingo and Mike Humphries) are Disney veterans. If you're going for the Illustration Entertainment Arts track, you'll be going for a more less specialized major which means you'll have to take classes on traditional painting and maybe one or two experimental/"""ideation""" bullshit classes. Some of the faculty involved in the track are actively working on adding more classes and independent study courses due to complaints from students within the track. It's still kind of an evolving track so it will likely get better in the future.
The Entertainment Design major is a separate major from Illustration. Unlike Illustration majors, they get a BS rather than a BA. There seems to be a lot less focus on traditional painting from what I've heard from one of my illustration teachers. The degree audit for Entertainment Design students do reflect a way more specialized track than Illustration's Entertainment Arts track. There are classes that ED students need to take that overlap with Product Design since modelmaking/sculpting is an important part of the major. If you're dead set on the Feng Zhu concept art look, this is definitely the major you need to apply for.

Are you korean anon?
>>2940385
Kek no. There are shitton of them at school though.
sort of just shit this one out w/o overthinking it.
I draw pretty cartoony, but it feels like the majority of people online prefer more realism/anime in their drawings.
feel free to critique
>>2939930
linework is pretty rough, especially around the arms.
I like the face though, in particular the way you did the eyes.
the gem on dangus' head kind of just looks like an afterthought, it doesn't look like it has purpose being there.
the background is pretty bad, it is possible to simplify it too much.
overall 6.5/10
not bad.
>>2939976
I was struggling with the gem on the head, wasn't sure if I even needed it. Good eye.
I'm not good at background art so most of the time I just treat it as a backdrop instead of spending time on it. It's something I need to work on for sure.
>>2940018
I wouldn't mind seeing more of your work, blog?
you have a rather nice cartoony style.
another thing i did notice is the shadow, the way you have it suggests his arms are infront of his body but the shading and the line on the body on the left make it look like they are beside him.
Guys, I'm sad, very sad...
My drawing hand... I've got some sort of cyst in my Lunate bone, it's also dying due to low blood flow, something that occurs randomly for no apparent reason.
See, having only one of these issues is easily fixable, but having both? What's the chance?!?
I can't even draw for more than an hour without my hand hurting, can't get swell in the fitness, as my hand hurts after each session..
They want to operate me, saying it'll need 6 months to get better, I fear they'll further fuck it up...
Never..Gonna make it...
:(
Use your drawing feet, faggot. Don't make fuckin' excuses, man.
>>2939366
Use your drawing nostril, faggot. Don't make fuckin' excuses, man.
>>2939361
You can change to the left hand for the time being, it might even be good experience for you.
