Are there any jobs where I can draw on the job?
You know, something where there's enough downtime that I can sneak in a few sketches here and there.
I think being an artist lets you draw on the job.

I'm not good enough to be paid, tho.
I work by myself managing a used video game store for about 11 hours a day, four days a week. Usually I can squeeze at least 3 solid hours in of intermittent drawing during that period-though it's always broken up by certain things I have to do.
It should be paradise but there's probably better out there, the clientele for this kind of establishment can often be eccentric and/or annoying as hell and a lot of the time they're not even the people that buy shit. Most of the customers that just pass through are fine but I have a lot of Jay and Silent Bob types that are absolutely fucked up in one way or another (for example, one guy loiters in the store hours at a time just for the excuse to tell the same outrageous lies to random people over and over again and try and get me to watch unfunny faggots on youtube like "lost pause", holy fuck). The job would be perfect if people weren't fucking retarded or otherwise greasy pieces of shit but whoop, there it is.
Don't get me wrong though, quite a few of my customers are pretty cool but it doesn't take much to poison a well and they are all, as a matter of principal, the enemy of me and my gains.
I'm sure most people that work retail have a similar experiences in that regard. My advice would be to find something similar but less attractive to goofballs with nothing better to do.
Are there any artists out there that you love even though they aren't the best, technically?
I will always love ABe, I really do.
>>2935754
I don't love them, but I can appreciate some of the stylistic choices of artists like Raita and Shindol, despite the complete absence of fundamentals.
>>2935757
>liking ShindoL
Why
>>2935754
ABe was one of the first people I really admired and Omnipresence in the Wired was one of the reasons I got REALLY into art. He'll always hold a special place in my heart

Hey /ic/,
Painter here,
My paintings are oil, complex, large and often use glazes. So time intensive.
Lately i have found it really hard to concentrate in studio due to my phone buzzing and taking breaks and stuff AND FACEBOOK.
Also, at home I'm spending far too much time on youtube and shit.
Do you guys have any routines, recommend any apps or advice to help cut this down? I feel like I need my messenger for facebook as I contact people and my music to zone out, but that is it.
TL:DR Any tips to concentrate better.
Here is a dog I painted in studio for a large painting after a good hour of concentration. After that It went and I had to go home.
(Sorry for the bad photo, took it for a friend.)
>>2935911
Full under painting if anyone interested, before I did the dog.
Pomodoro technique.
Work 25 min and then take a 5 min break to check phone. Repeat for several hours.
Ideally you should get rid off your phone but modernity is too hard to quit.

Also if you get tired and bored of a painting, have a second one to cleanse you eyes.

You could start by posting in the right thread.

Cut the giraffe neck, and learn to draw hands instead of constantly finding ways to avoid them.
Made this after not drawing for 8 years pretty much, thoughts? I'm not too happy with it but some aspects I like
You must be at least 18 to post on this board.

Thanks, I do know, it's been 4 years x
>>2934247

I finally get it now. It's like I'm wearing glasses for the first time.

>>2932904
Welcome to cubeworld.
May your perspective ever be crystalized as it is now.
>>2932908
I knew that it meant, I just didn't feel it before. I couldn't feel it. But now I do
It's like looking at this and trying to make it spin in the opposite direction.

Paleolithic art from Lascaux caves.
Why is paleolithic art often so aesthetic and seemingly have such a nice grasp of shape, rhythm, anatomy and style (for the time period)? These cave drawings are always so easy on the eyes, yet a lot of people today couldn't even achieve such fluid shapes.
It's more just the stylization of the anatomy I love, whether intentional or not. So fluid while retaining structure.

>Why is paleolithic art often so aesthetic and seemingly have such a nice grasp of shape, rhythm, anatomy and style (for the time period)?
Well they didn't just stiffly copy a photo or anything, it was drawn from memory after many many hours of observing these animals in the wild.
>>2932085
That doesn't explain shit. Most people have spent a lifetime observing a certain two legged animal an can't necessarily draw one in any sort of composition, gesture, or style
>that weird pimple nose
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
>>2929223
>>2929240
we can fix her. we have the technology
>>2929223
Fear not, anon! We'll always be here to fix it for you and give the character a most beautiful kind of nose that fits into the picture perfectly.
Been working on my digital work and hand anatomy - thoughts?
shameless self bump
>>2935740
Do that 100 times more.
>>2935740
I can do dat
I'm bored so give me a random request and I'll (probably) draw it it as little time possible.
Pic is something I did in like 5 minutes btw
draw a mountain landscape with a bunch of giant green, chortling frogs flying in the air
Draw a Toyota FT-1.
What do y'all think?
>>2935746
First one is improved a lot since your last post here. The second one is a bit odd with the perspective and things, and the front figure is pretty awkward.
Probably the best thing for you would be to just keep going. I think at this point you need the mileage of creating tons of drawings and compositions and through that experience you will pick up what you need better than people trying to impose their ideas on you.
>>2935749
woa that's surprising that you remember when I first posted considering it was over a month ago and I only got a few replies
Also thanks for the feedback
>>2935746
These are looking pretty good. The values are a bit in the middle though maybe try making blacker blacks and cleaning up a smidge. I agree with the other anon that perspective wise the objects are a little weird. My advice would be to pick an artist you like who you know is a veritable master of draftsmanship and copy a drawing or two. Nothing crazy but I promise you that copying someone who did it right will show you exactly what you need to do. Pick someone who works in a realist style.
Maybe one of Degas' Pastel drawings or a genre scene by Schmid. You have your own artist that you admire, so pick one of those. These two are just tried and tested masters
