How do I get regular clients? Ask for art weekly or monthly? Does anyone here have regulars, any tips?

Not sure if this is the right place, but I couldn't find another board that seemed more appropriate. I'm looking for more artwork with a similar theme/vibe to Hiroshi Nagai. If this ain't the place, just lemme know where would be better to ask, thx senpai
>>2943810
is the place, though you might have to wait quite a while to get good replies, like for example i know a pretty famous artist who was around in the 70s did paintings a lot like this but i can't remember his name, but someone else will surely
>>2943819
cool, good to know. mostly hang out on /mu/, which would definitely not have the answer, but which did teach me that there are some enormously powerful obsessives on this website.
>>2943810
I think Toshiki Kadomatsu used some of this artwork for one of his albums.
What makes a good character design /ic/? Do you have a compilation of good character designs from various medias or a basic tutorial of character design with you?

I would like to add that you should research any elements you'll add to your characters and how it will affect it.
Ex: The history of the cowboy hat: how and why was it utilized. You can't just ignore its meaning and add it to a character just because it would look nice.
If you're adding an element for the sake of "cool" then you shouldn't add it.
How do you guys resize you images without losing definition? Photoshop always seems to make it lose quality when I resize my images.
>>2944465
Paint at least at 200% of the intended size, use sharpen filter when downscaling exporting to jpg
Bilinear resizing.
>>2944465
It's guaranteed if you don't use any vector based art program.
/ic/, what is this style called?
I mean that whole "sunny weather, blue water, obvious post-climaapocalyptic chill-out" atmosphere I see being posted here all the time.
Is there a name for it?
>>2944382
I love that stuff. I've been looking for manga in this style if anyone knows of any. Also I'm looking for the same type of blue sky, sunny day thing but in a UTOPIAN world. Like a futuristic (not steel and flying cars everywhere shit) but a more organic realistic utopian future. Anyone know of anything with this style? comic, manga, anime whatever.
>>2944390
There´s some good EVA fanart about life after 2nd Impact, bcs the setting is kinda similar to pic related, but only for some time, as we all know.
About that orgatech future, or biopunk, you can find that literally everywhere, it´s the new cyberpunk.
>>2944382
a trope is a style now huh.
How do you not lose interest in a piece you are spending days working on mostly due to error fixing?
How do you work faster by working smarter? I can not seem to find a way to improve my speed without the quality of my artwork dropping.
I just want to be able to put down the brush strokes lines and colours and get it right the first or first few times and not the hundreds of times, because it is exhausting to expend all your energy fixing errors that you end up not doing much in the grand scheme of things and end up having not as many finished artworks to upload to your gallery as you would like to. It's even more frustrating when you see fellow artists you look up to pump stuff out nearly every day and flow perfect expressive sketches out with seemingly relative ease.
Even my art buddies tell me I'm so fucking slow at sketching out characters in drawpile and I feel so incompetent during days when I'm especially bad and am erasing and redrawing the same fucking thing for an hour.
Also how do I retain knowledge of anatomy better? How do I learn it better without getting bored. I just use reference for a certain angle if I'm drawing a similar pose because if i don't I can never remember the way the muscles are supposed to overlap in more complicated areas like the shoulders or back. I'm just not able to retain that information very clearly after a few weeks or months go by and I need to relearn the intricacies of anatomy of that area again.
These are things I have been struggling for a while now, and 'just drawing more' helps a bit, but no matter how much I practice I will always make lots of energy-draining errors that need fixing, and I feel like I am working harder and not smarter and it's holding me back.
What do you do to overcome this anons?
WTF delete ur facebook, fuck your art friends, lock your room door and grind, speed comes with skill.

But I don't use facebook and already do the other things

Show us your artworks - show us how you work - show us pictures of spiderman.
I worked on my fundamentals and all of a sudden got a lot quicker. If you have your basics in check you'll achieve this "first stroke looks right" thing. Well not really - but you won't need so many retries.
My artwork drawing process: Add some colours, draw the general shapes, rethink the concept, work in a thumbnail until the thumbnail looks interesting, work out the details, draw the rest of the fucking owl.
I don't even draw outlines anymore... pic attached took me ...4 hours? Something like that. I think I'd shoot myself if a drawing would take days... I had drawings that took days but I'm just not doing such detailed shit anymore...
Man I'm sorry I'm not even sure if this was helpful or not.... just generally if you need to redraw thing too often your fubdamentals might be off.
Honestly - post your work in the current /beg/inner thread and I'm sure we can help you out with a lot of your questions.
How do I git gut at drawing hard surface objects such as cars, planes, trucks etc?
Learn about perspective
Get the tools and practice technical drawing (aka drafting).
same as with organic surfaces, ya collect up your visual library and apply construction in perspective to them. Fundies apply to all forms of shape languages.
Though, yeah, there's a lot more emphasis on mirroring, cause ya know... symmetry.
Pic related, a personal sketch with mirroring experience behind it.
The first digital artwork I've done. How can I improve ?
Line weight
>>2944258
Put dicks on at least two of the girls.
Use less lines. Make more confident strokes. If you have SAI, use that for lineart and turn on the stabilizer so you don't have those wavy chunker lines.
>practicing art for any reason other than to be regarded as a representational master
shig
i agree with this post
U wot
did the breaker new waves ever get less shitty?
Anybody have any illustrations like this, where there's a lot going on in a small space and good knowledge of perspective is essential?
I'm trying to build an image library for inspiration, I want to attempt something like it for practice.
Here is another example, I'm sure some others would find these useful.
Does this pic interest you, OP?
Why does /ic/ hate Drawabox guy so much? He teaches the same stuff as Scott Robertson, who everyone one here loves (his book is in the sticky), just in a more accessible manner and for free. His subreddit has 42k subscribers. He's a pretty nice guy too.
>>2944306
I thought scotty boy was more plotted perspective and drawabox guy was more approximated perspective?
>>2944306
drawabox = ISIS
We talked about this so many times already. Just check out archives (https://warosu.org/) and fuck off already.
No sure if worth starting a new thread, first time posting here.
I've recently done a large painting which a band is interested in purchasing for a series of t-shirts and art prints.
How much is a reasonable price to sell the rights to high resolution scans? And what is a reasonable price to ask for the original?
Have put probably a total of 20 hours into it of actual work, and probably around $40 of supplies. Not sure yet what the price of scanning it will be as there are very few places in my area able to scan large documents.
Anything helps, I've never sold art before! Just a hobby that has turned in my favour!
>>2943396
Is it Bolzer that wants to buy your image? Bolzer is fuckin awesome. Or at least were, didn't like the last album. But everything before that was great. Can we see the image?
I don't know about price. My first thought is I would want at least $50 per hour + expenses. So 20x50 = 1000. Plus $40 for the supplies. Plus cost to have it scanned. I'd probably just round up to $1,200. I've got a 2006 copy of the Pricing and Ethical Guidelines Handbook where they list illustration for national distribution of apparel as $1,800-$4,200... so my minimum guesstimate seems to be way way on the low end. However a death/blackmetal band from Switzerland isn't exactly the same as selling a design to Madonna or something. And you did the painting for yourself it sounds like, not as a job for the band with their directions, so it is often customary to charge less for "readymade art". So with those two thoughts in mind, maybe charging on the lower end of the book's suggestion makes sense. You could always just admit you have no clue what to charge and ask them to offer what they usually would offer for such a thing. Could end up getting offered more. But could also end up getting lowballed hard.
>>2943725
Yes it's Bölzer. I'm vaguely reluctant about uploading the art here for some reason. You can see it on my IG - Solarus_Vinlandia .
Good approach! Thank you kindly, I'm messaging with Okoi over the past day and a bit.
>>2943792
Cool. Followed. Yeah asking them to make an offer is probably safest. I get the sense that small metal bands don't really operate in the same reality as the more usual mainstream art gigs. I read somewhere that Christophe Szpajdel was only charging $100 per band logo. That's nuts. So I'd be curious to know what you end up getting for it. Looks like some intricate masking work. Makes me wanna experiment with watercolor now.

FAQ:
Something's broken, what do I do?
>The original developer of the site has taken a leave for quite a while, originally due to medical reasons. Progress on the site is almost non-existant at this point. You can try contacting him at @LavaFlake or emailing him at [email protected].
What do we draw?
>Whatever you want. At this point there's no required topic so draw your heart out. Make sure you submit at least a half hour of work or you may get a low effort warning.
What's a low effort warning?
>The goal is to get people to draw every day by turning it into a competition. The low effort warning system is to prevent people from posting last minute, quick sketches when they're feeling lazy. If you receive a warning and it happens again within a month you'll be eliminated.
>This rule has been the cause of a lot of concern amongst newer artists so let me reiterate: this system is to police low effort content and has nothing to do with the quality of the work. New artists are more than welcome.
What happens if I'm eliminated?
>Your streak will go back to 0 and you will have to start again. No other penalties.
How can there be a new Last Artist Standing challenge every week?
>There is no week system anymore, instead new users are given "streaks" based on the number of consecutive days you can submit without getting eliminated. (token losses do not reset your streak)
Will I have an advantage if I join later in the week?
>The winner of a Last Artist Standing will be the artist with the longest streak. If you join on day 1 and last until day 85 then you'll have a streak of 85. If there's only one person left in the challenge when you're eliminated but they joined on Day 7 then they'll need to continue on for another week. If they're eliminated before then, you win.

What's you guys thought on this?
tl dr
Bull sculptor wants the fearless girl sculpture removed because it changes the original meaning behind the bull which is to represent the "fighting spirit of the United States and of New York."
>>2939683
he's 100% right. which adds another meaning to the 'fearless girl' statue
>>2939683
They should put her on top of the Washinton Monument, getting split down the middle.
pedo regrets
>Kim Jung Gi, Ruan Jia, Sinix and many others don't use construction
>construction makes your drawings look more generic, makes you unable to draw interesting lines that make your drawing stand out
>masters from the previous centuries didn't use construction, they didn't know about perspective grids and all that heavy stuff, they just drew from real life and kept things in memory
Are we all getting memed? I can see why construction would be useful for inorganic things like buildings and stuff, but for figure drawings, it seems like it just stiffens your figures and hampers creativity. What do you think /ic/ bros?
>>2939551
Construction and perspective grids are tools to make drawing easier for you. I'm not sure why this is so hard for idiots like you to understand. If you don't use construction and you are happy with the end results, then yeah, do whatever the fuck you want, literally no one gives a shit how you draw so stop shitting up this board with this bullshit.
