Alexander was pretty good at adapting to and embracing other other cultures (specifically the Persian culture). He would probably have been able to expand his empire and keep it stable. But the whole world? No way. And it would have disintegrated the moment he died, even without a succession crisis. He was was in a unique position and uniquely talented for his time.

Mace has a heavier head and is more versatile. With a mace you can hit with most sides, Warhammer only two. Ergo its probably easier to hit a glancing hit with a warhammer than a mace.

While the First World War gets recognition in recent years with the past few years being the 100th anniversary of many important events during the war and more modern pop culture references to The Great War there are many eyes from around the world fixed on the time period. From our vantage point in the modern era, we can see that the dynastic rulers of Europe were not able to control the will of nationalism. The fear of nationalism is what prompted the concert of Europe to try turn back the clock to a time before napoleon and nationalism to go back to an era of dynastic rulers in Europe with large multicultural empires rather than smaller “nations”. It is because of these nationalist passions that the European monarchs did not have control over was the primary cause of the First World War. The power had in effect, been usurped from the dynastic monarchs and given to nationalists like Hindenburg and Ludendorff whose decisions and power could rival, and even exceed that of the Germany’s Kaiser Wilhelm II. National interests would soon act to undermine the principles of the concert of Europe as the events of the July Crisis unfolded and the eventual start of the First World War started and broke the stability that it promised. Europe’s monarchs could not control nationalism and by the time they understood this fact, there was nothing in their power to stop the consequences from unfolding, not just in Germany but all across Europe, nationalism was on the rise.

When looking at the First World War, one must not look at the July Crisis first but rather the events occurring 100 years before at the Concert of Europe. The Concert of Europe wanted to turn the clock back on time and undo the influence of Napoleon and the birth of nationalism in Europe. This Concert of Europe promised to guarantee stability in Europe and make sure nationalist influence could never take hold in Europe again. This however was not a permanent solution and as we now know did not spare Europe the influence of nationalism forever as for nationalism would once again be on the rise when Germans called for unification and again when Germany was united by Otto von Bismarck. Bismarck had used nationalism as a vehicle to push Prussian conservative values. Under Bismarck the German empire underwent a period of industrial growth and military preparation, what some might call an arms race that would last throughout serving as Germanys Imperial Chancellor from 1871 to 1890. This preparation was in part a term that Bismarck called “balance of power”. Other balances of power that Bismarck implemented include the forming of the triple alliance. Towards the turn of the century the Schlieffen plan was devised by the request of Wilhelm II and created by the German Chief of Staff Alfred von Schlieffen.

Studying this ism can help you better understand the issues you care about, and lead you down other paths to other isms that you may end up with.

If you truly, somehow manage to have a unique belief system that is non-contradictory, create your own ism and share it with the rest of us.
