Tell me something about the Battle of Dukla Pass, /his/

my girlfriend's dad is from this area and I was thinking of visiting next time I am in Slovakia,

How does it rank in terms of WW2 tank battles?
8 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>1791519

I don't really know all that much about it, I'm afraid. I know it was an attempt to support a Slovak revolt, and it was something of a failure for the Soviet advance. It was a pretty large tank battle according to wiki at least, but I don't really trust their figures.

>How does it rank in terms of WW2 tank battles?

What does that even mean?

In strategic importance, in scale, was it well executed despite the result or was it a clusterfuck?

Anyone else here who feels lonely because he can't find people who share his interests in real life? I'm a 23 y/o engineering student and people around me don't really read books aside from technical ones, and only talk about vidya and sports. I worked in IT for a year and it was the same.

I also never had a girlfriend and can't seem to find access to that pool of people and the only "friends" I have I see once every 2 weeks, maybe. Schopenhauer said that you shouldn't look for happiness in other people since those variables are hardly controllable but I still feel down most of the time.

man, when did the human race turn into such wimps?
oh wait, this is exclusive for white people.

>The last man is tired of life, takes no risks, and seeks only comfort and security.

>The lives of the last men are pacifist and comfortable. There is no longer a distinction between ruler and ruled, strong over weak, or supreme over the mediocre. Social conflict and challenges are minimized. Every individual lives equally and in "superficial" harmony. There are no original or flourishing social trends and ideas. Individuality and creativity are suppressed.

When will the age of the Last Man come to an end? Or has he been too thoroughly welcomed, as Fukuyama/etc imply?

>It is vain rhapsodizing and sentimentality to continue to expect much (even more, to expect a very great deal) from mankind, once it has learned not to wage war. nietzsche-friedrichFor the time being, we know of no other means to imbue exhausted peoples, as strongly and surely as every great war does, with that raw energy of the battleground, that deep impersonal hatred, that murderous coldbloodedness with a good conscience, that communal, organized ardor in destroying the enemy, that proud indifference to great losses, to one’s own existence and to that of one’s friends, that muted, earthquakelike convulsion of the soul.”

>“I welcome all signs that a more virile, warlike age is about to begin, which will restore honor to courage above all. For this age shall prepare the way for one yet higher, and it shall gather the strength that this higher age will require one day—the age that will carry heroism into the search for knowledge and that will wage wars for the sake of ideas and their consequences.”

The Roman religion has many names: Cultus Deorum, Traditio Romana, etc.

Did the Chinese Four Occupations have any influence in the appeal or perception of Communism to the Chinese?

For those of you unfamiliar with them: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_occupations

It did as in the Communist want to destroy that order. Adopting bullshit eurocentric marxist rhetoric of WE MUST SEIZE THE MEANS OF PRODUCTION FROM THE GENTRY despite the fact that
1) Feudalism is non-existent in China since the Han dynasty ended. and
2) Most of Agrarian Lands in Imperial China were owned by the fucking peasants, who organized their villages in clan village and not answering to some plantation owner or spanish-style haciendero.

The Gentry were busy being in the fucking cities doing government work. Besides the gentry tends to be loyal to their ancestors clan village instead of fucking owning it.

Confucianism is highly anti-thetical versus Communism.

Confucianism works in a world where classes of society is a reality. Confucianism focus on harmony between social classes. Communists live in fantasy land where there will only be one class.

What we saw near Ste. Come-du-Mont was certainly religious, I thought, but really had nothing on the looking up—that moment when, earlier, glancing up and Dike is eating shit. It's awful but that's what I thought, felt bad about it then, in the moment, watching him curl and spit, trying to clear the phlegm pooling at his bottom lip, curled down. Later I wondered, "Maybe had that man been my father, somehow, leaping up from Couch, Midtown (US) to help me, not knowing what he had coming for him, to expect—and I thought, that doesn't make him less of a...my father or anyone, someone not Dike, even Dike himself," but anyhow the moment when I glanced up and Dike was...glancing over his head, I took a step closer—and felt like I was shuffling—but crouched next to him saying, "Dike, Dike," but registering above his head, on a building about one, half-to-two hundred yards in front, the words "Rue du Monde" and thinking "of the Morgue," not being able to recall for a while afterwards what the word "Rue" meant, (ask me before and after, sure) but thinking, definitely, that what I'd read were the words "Café du Monde" which, to me, in the Frenchless moment, meant for me for sure to be, "Café of Candy," and how immediately after I was thinking, "That's a reference to Candyland," which is from a story that was going around, here anyway: ,and so knew immediately that the place itself—and not just what we already knew was in it—was fucked, all, for sure.
That wasn't, is not—what I was talking about, though, this:

I thought it was Leibgott, but it was not Leibgott—I'm sorry I've forgotten who—crouched at the entrance of the cellar, actually fucking knocking (the story isn't actually like this. I think this goes better)...
And then the moment when I realized he hadn't been knocking, had only been lifting the door, before I glanced away.
Not Leibgott saying: "Parlez-vous français? Parlez-vous anglais?"
Someone else, not Leibgott: "What do they even speak in Belgium anyway?"
Also not Leibgott: "I think, Speirs, that this is like the time with the dog. Also, best to leave Leibgott alone, for sure, good guy."

The time with the dog was different, slightly. I was wondering then, very seriously, "I wonder what Leibgott thinks of me." I understand Leibgott, I think, if I've got this right: I understand him better than anybody else maybe—doing what he's doing, not talking to any of us much, anymore—best for the soul (and I'm being very serious about/with that word) and, actually, I think it's more mature, [because] what am I doing but just looking for another chance to go somewhere, which is actually ridiculous, and stupid, and...anyhow Joseph Leibgott is a good man, maybe the best of them, and what he's doing actually makes a lot of adult sense, if I know what he's doing. Either way.
This is actually what I was doing, before I found the dog, thinking that I liked, that maybe I had found...was doing what I'm best at and, later, that maybe it was a sin of some sort not to be doing it, what with the apparent skill of...

Anyhow the dog was Alsatian (which is not a German Shepherd, according to some) and actually I knew the word "Alsatian" when I saw the dog, but didn't know anything of the controversy about them.
People argue if the German Shepherd and the Alsatian are actually the same breed. I knew the word Alsatian then, and thought it was a fancier way of saying German Shepherd.

I said, "This is nothing like the situation with the Alsatian."
Shifty lit a cigarette. "I said I think it might be something like that."
Shifty is not afraid enough then. I think (lucid for a moment, I thought): There is absolutely no way to hide that kind of fear. What fear? No fear. The fear Shifty should be feeling. Shifty isn't feeling any fear.

(This is part of something I'm working on, about a time I was alone saw a dog in the Ardennes.)
