Whats with "gaming" oriented hardware? I seriously don't get the hype. Pay an extra $100 for some colours, 12 usb ports and some oc features you'll never use.
if your not overclocking why buy an overclocking board in the first place?

>you'll never use
First thing I do when getting a new CPU is increase core clock by like 800mhz
>>56313492
most of these are featuring the zx7 chipsets which are specifically built around having overclocking as a feature though
because gamers are literally the only ones keeping consumer desktop hardware companies in business.

That's the truth.

Good thread m8, thanks for making it!
Rather have a 6 car garage with three cars than a three car garage with three cars.

I have a z97 but I don't know about overclocking, should I let the Asus software handle it? I don't even know the point of overlcocking my 4690k.

>buys a K processor
>doesnt OC it
The only reason that thing has a K is that so people can overclock it. Otherwise buying the K version is a waste of money.

Why would I overclock son? More snappy factor when draggin windows?
I bought an USB 3.0 card for my old computer. It is faster, but also added two more ports, which were direly required. 12 would be extravagant, but 4 for controllers, a few for phones or external drives, keyboard, mouse, joystick. WIFI dongle, etc. etc. I wouldn't mind another dozen USB 3.0 ports.
I don't overclock, but wouldn't mind the color coordination, and there very well might be some more effort put into the BIOS.
overpriced shit that will go in the trash as soon as a new processor socket is needed, because people which buy that sorta stuff will buy a new proc even if shit from 2011 still kicks butts, same people that still overclock CPUs even if it's not needed since we passed the 3ghz mark a long time ago, but hey, old habits are a bitch sometimes
>>56313492
Because people generally only build high end desktops for gaming or for workstations. Therefore that's what companies are going to market towards.

Muh vidya games
You don't have to overclock, but why would you pay extra for a K processor when if you don't overclock the non k is exactly the same?
>>56315078
The core of non-k 6600 is not exactly the same as the 6600k.
>>56315078
because I want cool nerds to think I'm a cool nerd, overclocked CPU and waifus are the bare minimum to fit in
