If you would like to try out GNU/Linux you can do one of the following:
0) Install a GNU/Linux distribution of your choice in a Virtual Machine using VirtualBox or other software made for this puporse for safety purposes.
1) Use the Live ISO (if your distribution of choice has one) to boot directly into the GNU/Linux distribution without installing anything, that way, you can get to experience the GNU/Linux operating system without installing it.
2) Dual boot the GNU/Linux distribution of your choice along with Windows or macOS, this is recommended if you want to know more about the GNU/Linux operating system.
3) Go balls deep and replace everything with GNU/Linux.

Have a bump, and a mugshot...
I'm returning to college, and I am looking for a netbook that has:
>fast boot time
>cheap
>good battery life
>non-OSX
>non-chrome
>separate clicker buttons on touchpad
>primarily for web browsing/document editing
After looking at a couple dozen top-rated netbooks, the best candidate is the Lenovo IdeaPad 100s:
http://www.cnet.com/products/lenovo-ideapad-100s/
The only downside seems to be
>flimsy feeling keyboard
Is there a major flaw in this netbook that I seem to be unaware of? Are there other things I should be taking into consideration? Is there a netbook that you know to be a better fit for a poor college student who wants to do his homework while out of the house?
I am also assuming that I can install Ubuntu on it to make it run even faster, and that there is plenty of software GNU/Linux software for me to do my typical class assignments in the typical windows file formats and turn them in, but correct me if I'm wrong.
Just get an X220/X230 and throw in an SSD.
>>56349087
>stuck with 32gb ssd forever
nope
>>56349087
You can't install linux or any other OS on it. Also it doesn't have much storage.
You're better off buying a used thinkpad.
How do I stop my distro hopping?
I go from Ubuntu first (good beginner's OS, never had problems) to Mint (is okay. Personally I felt like it was a poo in loo distro) to Manjaro (Kinda like it) and now I feel like trying out another distro. I don't mind testing out distros on a VM but I've been swapping homes back and forth for a while now. Should I just force myself to stay with Manjaro?
Why do you even use Linux faggot?
>>56349058
What do you want from your pc? What do you want to use it for?
>>56349096
A little bit of everything. I want to do schoolwork and program on it. It's a thinkpad T410.
What will happen if I plug this into a computer?
>>56348914
Keks will happen

Remember the following:
>staff occasionally read these generals and have posted here before
>staff may pretend to be normal users asking for invites and when you invite them, they ban you for inviting strangers
>sneaky bastards will try to convince you into believing that cheating can be evaded, it can't and you will be banned with those bastards laughing at you
>people may report emails and other personal info posted here to staff to get you banned
>don't respond to anime posters, they are known to ruin threads and shitpost, report and ignore.
>most of the invite offers here are people trolling you with false hope - begging for invites is a waste of time and you should just interview at What.cd
>>56348663
Anime is for children
>>56348921
haven't ever heard of any kind of official threads....invites seem to be available sporadically on various power user forums. I keep on missing them by thaaaat much. I make PU most places but don't have a BTN account so maybe there's one there. KG and BTN are my white whales, although there's more hope for KG than BTN someday reenabling accounts that were disabled more than a year. BB seemed to have a pretty good stream of invites at one point but not any longer. WCD had some recently but they went in two seconds...sigh.
These thread belong on t the board dedicated to torrents. So fuck off.

Rx 480s and 1060s are very affordable and are damn near close to 4x faster than a 750.
>>56347993
considering I'm getting fucked in the ass by local prices here I'll probably end up with something old like that so I hope it's not that bad

>>56349515
What does the carrier protection do
Why are American technology companies taking political stances? What do they gain from it?
http://google.com/diversity
They can't accept that technological progress is ultimately a nihilistic pursuit, so they desperately try to imbue their work with some meaning to justify calling the act of writing Java code "changing the world".
tax breaks, government grants, international consumer loyalty, etc, etc
>>56347511
How is that diverse? There's not a single black guy there.

What's wrong with that? Just start a group chat. You can attach files and images, send messages, etc.
I've done it for projects before and it's worked great. Stop being an autistic cunt

"Hey anon, I heard you post on 4chan's /g/ forum.
Are you gay?"
Is the durability a meme? Other than the "draining keyboard", is there actually anything to the construction you wouldnt find on any other high end laptop?
I'm buying it to do video and photo editing on a long trip so dust/weather/vibration resistance is pretty much all I care about
What's happening in that image?
