>man, libreoffice is such a resource hog, maybe I'll just buy ms office and be done with it, it can't be that expensive

what the fuck were they thinking? surely people aren't dumb enough to fall for this?

you sure?
>what the fuck were they thinking? surely people aren't dumb enough to fall for this?
How naive can you be? And also if they are smart Office is still the standard and absolutely needed in the industry pretty much no matter the cost. People would pay $200 for it every year as well. Until the cost is so large that it is cheaper to train everyone to use libreoffice or something. But then on the other hand all the customers use MS office and expect Office documents so they would likely still buy MS Office even when it is cheaper to retrain.

What's your backup strategy, anons?
I'm just a pleb who copies my home directory to an external HDD with Freefilesync every now and then.
But I'd like to step up my game, plus offsite backups.
Sounds good.
I don't really backup. I do have an old HDD stashed away somewhere with years old files, probably nothing important since I can't remember what's on it.
My main HDD is pretty new, so I won't bother with backup yet. I mean, like 99% on what's on it, I can just download it again if it dies.

Which is the cheapest country to buy tech in?
anything that's not canada
Think it's Germany isn't it? Things always seem cheaper there
China I guess... The fewer middle men the cheaper it is.
i thought this was supposed to save Linux gaming. what happened to it?

You thought wrong.
nothing can save linux gaming.
it DID save Linux gaming, which is why 2017 is the year of the linux desktop
The defaults on reddit tell me he didn't do anything for the tech industry, I personally think they're just projecting because a good looking hippie college drop out revolutionized the area that was dominated by them(neckbeards).

So most likely never.

I just switched to Chrome, and it's been running nicely.
It started to chug a little bit, so I checked the task manager to see what's up and with only 5 tabs open there are 10 instances of Google Chrome open.
What's the deal?
Chrome uses as much memory as it wants.
Your computer is chugging because it's constantly swapping to disc. Hope you don't have an SSD.

Chrome plugins and extensions you may have added. Also some websites need more resources depending how much they have going on, like if they use a lot of java.

there are some albums missing on PTG that i have,
what's the script in uploading them myself?
I've been a prolific torrent user for many years now, but with the shutdown of What I'm beginning to rethink my involvement in torrents altogether.
I recently signed up for Apple Music and I have to say that I really like it. I exclusively downloaded FLAC content from What, but I have to admit that I can't hear a difference in the 256kbps files from iTunes. And with very few exceptions, I can find everything I want from iTunes/Apple Music. I also really like how fast I can start listening to a new album by just looking it up in iTunes, instead of waiting for a torrent to download. The biggest issue is that I won't be owning my new music anymore. But let's be honest . . . the future of music distribution is streaming. Like it or not, that's what the kids prefer and it's only going to get more widespread.
As for movies, I'm a netflix user so there is tons of content there to watch. If I want to see something specific I can just rent it from iTunes. I'm not wealthy by any stretch of the imagination, but I make enough that I can afford the occasional rental. I rarely keep movies in my library as I generally don't watch movies multiple times, so renting works just fine for me.
My biggest hesitation is TV and software. I prefer on-demand watching of my shows and unlike movies I can't afford to purchase all my shows from iTunes. However, my wife and I are big fans of Game of Thrones and we ended up subscribing to HBO Now during that season so we could watch it right away, instead of waiting for the torrent to show up the next day. It was really convenient, and if I made more money I would totally love a premium cable package with a DVR setup.
What do you think? Ever consider going completely legit and leaving torrents behind?
