there are some albums missing on PTG that i have,
what's the script in uploading them myself?

I've been a prolific torrent user for many years now, but with the shutdown of What I'm beginning to rethink my involvement in torrents altogether.

I recently signed up for Apple Music and I have to say that I really like it. I exclusively downloaded FLAC content from What, but I have to admit that I can't hear a difference in the 256kbps files from iTunes. And with very few exceptions, I can find everything I want from iTunes/Apple Music. I also really like how fast I can start listening to a new album by just looking it up in iTunes, instead of waiting for a torrent to download. The biggest issue is that I won't be owning my new music anymore. But let's be honest . . . the future of music distribution is streaming. Like it or not, that's what the kids prefer and it's only going to get more widespread.

As for movies, I'm a netflix user so there is tons of content there to watch. If I want to see something specific I can just rent it from iTunes. I'm not wealthy by any stretch of the imagination, but I make enough that I can afford the occasional rental. I rarely keep movies in my library as I generally don't watch movies multiple times, so renting works just fine for me.

My biggest hesitation is TV and software. I prefer on-demand watching of my shows and unlike movies I can't afford to purchase all my shows from iTunes. However, my wife and I are big fans of Game of Thrones and we ended up subscribing to HBO Now during that season so we could watch it right away, instead of waiting for the torrent to show up the next day. It was really convenient, and if I made more money I would totally love a premium cable package with a DVR setup.

What do you think? Ever consider going completely legit and leaving torrents behind?

Well, you're 95% set with streaming+bandcamp+soundcloud. There's still some stuff you can only find on BT, so I keep an account for obscurities.

For films, there's no reason to believe Netflix or any other streaming service will be able to compete with any mid-tier torrent tracker anytime soon. The amount of content is incomparably small even in the US, let alone outside. Exclusive content, market fragmentation and copyright are not going anywhere for decades, so torrenting is the way to go. Not to mention that if you're not a superhero flick tier popcorn tard, but a proper kino patritian, then there's virtually no way around Karagarga/Cinemageddon/Cinemaz.
