How old are you? I mean it's great and all that you've been making progress, but even drunk I can get 88+ words per minute with 100% accuracy.

As for touch typing, no, not a meme.

im not great, i usually type slower than i do in this test unless its something that i know how to type out very well, and i dont have to use Shift or punctuation

also i made three god danm spelling errors in a row and slowed the hell down to fix them, but i dislike typing tests and i dont feel like doing it again
my issue is hand hand coordination, sometimes i type one letter out of sync with another when across hands such as
dislike turning into disliek

oh well, runescape taught me well

KDE 3 was the best thing ever, and then they suffered from an autistic breakdown and decided to build everything from ground up with KDE 4 and released one buggy and completely useless version after another, losing developers all the time, and they simply never really recovered after that.

I imagine it was kind of similar with the GNOME 2 -> GNOME 3 transition.

Is there any reason to get a G-Sync or Freesync monitor if I already have one with a 144hz refresh rate? It's mostly for gayming.

Depends, do you always get a minimum of +144 fps in every game?

With g/f sync you get no tearing and a lot less stuttering at lower fps.

Nope.

>With g/f sync you get no tearing and a lot less stuttering at lower fps.
Gotcha. Thanks!

Does a game have to be programmed to be G or Freesync compatible or does the monitor automatically detect how many frames you're getting and adjust itself accordingly?

Alexa can now open Cortana and vice versa

Where were you when the AI botnets combined to take over the world

>We’re very excited to announce a first-of-its-kind collaboration with Amazon between Cortana and Alexa that will offer more choice, value and access to both intelligent personal assistants.

>Available later this year, this collaboration will allow you to access Alexa via Cortana on Windows 10 PCs, followed by Android and iOS in the future. Conversely, you’ll be able to access Cortana on Alexa-enabled devices like the Amazon Echo.

>With Alexa as a guest on Cortana, Cortana users will now have another way of making their lives easier with a great shopping experience. Say you are at work, and you receive a text from your partner saying, “We’re running low on diapers.” In the future, on your Windows 10 PC, you could simply say, “Hey Cortana, open Alexa,” and ask Alexa to order diapers using your Amazon account.

>With Cortana as a guest on Alexa, Alexa users will have access to some of Cortana’s most useful productivity capabilities. What if you’re making breakfast in the morning and need to know if you have enough time to drop off the dry-cleaning before work? On your Alexa device, you can say, “Alexa, open Cortana,” and ask when your first meeting is.

i think the problem here isn't API design, it's the vague concept of a `game`. A `player` is pretty clear, but what does a `game` actually do

the 'game' class runs the game loop and draw functions. Think of it as an instance where the player can take actions.

is this victim to a race condition? if so, how do you fix that?

access(mutex){
if (mutex->lock == UNLOCKED){
mutex->lock = LOCKED;
return UNLOCKED;
}
else return LOCKED;
}

i'm thinking of two threads running this at the same time
thread one would run the first line, immediately followed by thread 2 doing that first line. both of them read the mutex is unlocked. then thread 1 sets the mutex to locked, as well as thread 2 doing that right after. then both of them get unlocked returned from this function. how would you avoid that? or does that not happen?
>>
>>62168024
Does "access" protect the mutex in any way? If not, then yes that will be a race condition

Hey, is it true that now is a bad time to invest in say a 1080 ti because much better cards will be availeable at the start of 2018?

A friend of mine told me so and its gotten me spooked because im looking to build a new pc in the coming months.
8 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
The answer is literallt always wait. Wait until you're almost dead and the buy a card, you'll get the best value for money there.

If you're not that autistic, however, just buy a 1080Ti now. The best card next generation won't be signficiantly more powerful than it, and it'll be fine for a very long time.
>>
Should I buy a graphics card in Europe right now?
Miners are rasiing the prices up and up and up

A 1060 costs 300€
RX 580 400€
RX 480 300€
And the prices won't come down
Will they ever fall or should I buy them now?
>>
>>62167467
It's a bad time to get a mid-range GPU, because everything is overpriced right now. But neither Volta nor Navi are going to be available until mid-2018 at the earliest, so if you're considering a 1080ti, you might as well get it.

Network Neutrality has for more than a decade been all the rage on the Left. Emphasis - as is always the case with the Left - on rage. Especially so now, as the Donald Trump Administration’s Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is in the process of rolling back said power grab - along with the equally ridiculous imposition on the Web of 1934 Title II landline telephone law. All imposed just two years ago by the Barack Obama Administration’s FCC.
Net Neutrality is the titanically stupid insistence that Internet Service Providers (ISPs) treat each and every thing on the Internet exactly the same. For instance, emails from Nigerian princes - deserve equal access to you as does a doctor performing your remote, online Lasik eye surgery. If that causes your surgeon’s connection to buffer and stall - well that’s just too bad. You didn’t want to read those Nigerian prince emails anyway.

We less government types find Net Neutrality and Title II to be titanically stupid for at least two reasons. It is antithetical to the Constitution and to even a rudimentary understanding of economics. Constitution: Net Neutrality is a blatant assault on at least the First and Fourth Amendments. First Amendment: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” Fourth Amendment: “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.” The ISPs have spent more than $1 trillion building their networks. They are thus their networks. They can assemble said networks any way they wish (First Amendment) - completely free from government interference or imposition.
>>
>>62167434

Net Neutrality is the government mandating how ISPs will assemble people upon their networks. A First Amendment no bueno. And certainly with the Title II imposition, the government is executing a massive, unreasonable, unwarranted seizure of ISPs $1+ trillion worth of private property. A Fourth Amendment no bueno. Economics: Net Neutrality bans all sorts of normal business practices in which every other business on the planet engages all the time. The government Post Office charges you different prices for different speeds of delivery. But Net Neutrality is the government - prohibiting ISPs from charging different prices for different speeds of delivery. No hypocrisy there.
And, of course, businesses everywhere charge different prices for differentiated levels of service. And, of course, you would very much like your eye surgeon to be able to purchase a faster, dedicated, uninterruptible Web connection in preparation for his taking a laser to your optical orbs. Net Neutrality is simply bizarre, anti-Reality policy. And, of course, every single Net Neutrality advocate engages in exactly the sort of business practices and avails himself of the exact same Constitutional freedoms - which he wants to have the government ban for ISPs.
>>
>>62167449
Online retail titan Amazon is a huge Net Neutrality proponent. Let’s leave aside the crony fact that they use a ton of bandwidth - and Net Neutrality prohibits ISPs from charging them for it. When you order products from Amazon you can choose at least three different delivery speeds, which the Net Neutrality they champion prohibits ISPs from doing. Web domain giant GoDaddy is a huge Net Neutrality proponent. They cancelled the domain name of a white supremacist website. I.e., GoDaddy is assembling their private business exactly the way they wish - completely free from government interference or imposition, which the Net Neutrality they champion prohibits ISPs from doing. Google is the king of the Internet. They are a nearly $1 trillion business - all by their onesies. Three-quarters of all U.S. Internet searches are conducted through Google. Like Amazon, Google too crony benefits from Net Neutrality’s ban on ISPs charging them for their massive bandwidth consumption. Like GoDaddy, Google banned the same white supremacist domain name when it was registered with Google. This is Google, like GoDaddy, assembling their private business any way they wish - completely free from government interference or imposition, which the Net Neutrality they champion prohibits ISPs from doing.
