We are making a web browser!
PREVIOUSLY >>61578064

In the face of recent changes in Firefox and Chrome some anons were asking for a /g/'s perfect web browser, we collected the most wanted here and plan on continuing with the creation.

To contribute follow the WORK PLAN, join the IRC to ask developers for a repo, and get to programming!

- Set bug tracker and mailing list in Savannah.

>WORK PLAN
1. Browse links2 source code (you can use Ctags for tagging functions and files).
2. Expose API and give access to everything (scripting through executables is planned).
3. Give total control over the DOM, put options in files inside a hierarchical folder structure referencing sites and subsites.
4. Implement a link grabber for every link and media type to be parsed by scripts and independent applications.
5. Create an uncomplicated switch to general security profiles located in saved files.
6. Implement ncurses simple tree style graphics for bookmarks, tabs, advanced security policies by site, etc.
7. Work in the framebuffer graphics rendering.
8. Open API to javascript support (version 2.1pre28 of links2 had javascript enabled).
9. Cache, logs, cookies, and other data storage options.
10. Ports routing proxy management.
11. Vim/Emacs modes, dwb hints and quickmarks.
12. Optionally add parser for HTML, DJVU, PDF, epub, etc.?

Obviously not a fan of Dixie

Should I go through with my purchase?

Don't bother me with "mac-fag" comments. At least I stay loyal to the old stuff instead of falling for the new shinanigens by Apples recent lineup.

I'll get the 2010 17 inch Macbook Pro.
2,66 Ghz i7
8 gigs DDR3
Intel/nvidea combo they made back then for heavy workload / power saving.

600 bucks /g/... 600 bucks!

I don't have a laptop at the moment. The last I had was a fully bumped up 13" Air which didn't do me no good power-spec wise.

How come you want to get that? I'd get one if I didn't have any other computer and didn't want to do a ton with it. The upgrades you can do are nice.

Hey /g/, do you think any of these e-ink price tag label things could be programmed with a simple rfid writer? Normally there's a bunch of dedicated hardware supporting it but if it's possible I'd like to get just the labels and program them with a phone/some cheap usb rfid thing.
You can buy them for pretty cheap on alibaba

What's a good framework to build Windows, macOS, and Linux desktop application from the same codebase?

Hard mode: binary size has to be less than 60 MB (this excludes Electron)

Even harder mode: fully supports languages other than C++

Hardest mode: doesn't require installation of 50MB+ runtime libraries (C# Mono)

I have some reservations about using C++ for the project I'm planning. I know Qt has bindings for other languages, but they're very much subordinate to C++.

The old logo was better in the terminal for screenfetch threads, you can stil use it with the screenfetch -A 'Arch Linux - Old' command in terminal.
Void linux logo looks fine in terminal

I've been using FF for 10+ years now and up until the last few months it's been near perfect. For some reason, FF become unstable and began to crash often or constantly lag/freeze. I finally got fed up with it today and downloaded Chrome. At first, it was great, using only ~30% of RAM, about 10-15% less than FF, and ran smoothly. Now, I'm a few hours into using Chrome and I'm sitting at 76% RAM usage?!

tl;dr
>FF is laggy and crashes often
>Chrome eats RAM for a living
>Is there a better option for a daily web browser?

manjaro-openrc is dead.
https://forum.manjaro.org/t/manjaro-openrc-will-be-discontinued/28387

The maintainer has decided to stop work on it and switch efforts to a new fork of Arch, Artix Linux. Artix is Arch without systemd and with packages requiring systemd either excluded or altered, so the idea is basically the same as manjaro-openrc, except it's pure Arch instead of the streamlined manjaro experience.

Hopefully Artix will pull away some Arch users and gain enough momentum to help deflate the systemd monopoly. In the meantime, it's unfortunate for existing manjaro-openrc users or anyone else looking for an easy out-of-box systemd-free distro, as manjaro-openrc was probably the friendliest option.

nice

but the sad thing is part of why I run linux is to learn things that might be useful when using linux that isn't my machine... meaning probably dealing with systemd...

so ill likely stick to arch

Systemd is shady as fuck.
Why all major distros implemented it so fast?
Why is it founded by corporation that has close ties to US goverment?
Was there really a need for this software?

This is much better than PSVR but there is no head tracking apart from gyros and no controllers. So more for passive experiences.

>Here is the problem: It’s Android. Android is an open source (mostly) operating system that has to be neutral to all parties. This sounds good until you get into the details.
