hi /fit/

after a first looonnng cut , i will start my first lean bulk in 3 weeks , and plan to do the "intermediate workout plan" by scooby.

i choose to do this because i only have dumbells for now, and will propably buy a small 120cm bar, i dont have much place so i cant get a long bar and a rack/bench.

anyway, my problem is:

i dont have a pullup bar, what excercices could i do instead to train my lats?

Don't do it right after you finish drinking.
I ran 10 km after three days of drinking beer, eating crisps and playing vidya with something like three hours of sleep.
I couldn't keep a very good speed at all, got a stinging in my side after the fifth kilometer, and I just felt like dying all the time.

I'm an ex-fatty who never had a problem hitting his macros, but I am aware many fatties struggle with eating at a deficit.

Muscle Memory; apparently it's not broscience from what I've read. Now, what I have problems with is figuring out how long it lasts.

I've read that muscle memory last anywhere from 3 years to forever. I've even seen anecdotal evidence of people getting back into shape after many years of layoff.

What does /fit/ think about Muscle Memory? Perhaps anyone has any experiences with it after a not working out for a while?

I used to be in decent shape back in hs, lifted 110kg 5x5 bp, about 180kg 5x5 or so squat (can't remember exact number), etc. Now I'm back after 6-7 years of not working out and I'm weak as fuck. Would be nice if muscle memory was still in effect and I didn't have to do it the hard and slow way.

I'll try to explain this as easily as possible.

Basically, when your muscles grow, your muscle cells expand in size. Once you stop lifting, they remain in this state for a while before they begin to shrink. However, since they have been in an enlarged state, they are stretched.

Imagine a fat dude losing all his weight. He is left with loose skin, since it has been expanded before from the inside. It would be easier for him to get fat again, since his skin is stretched already. There is no need for the cells to adapt and grow if he gains weight again.

The same goes for muscle cells. However, the longer you wait, the more time you leave them to regenerate.

I injured myself doing deadlifts and had to stop lifting for 6 months. Overconfidence and neglecting form will do this to you. So, once I started lifting again, I got bigger faster than before. Just an anecdote.

Old-time wrestlers, born in the 20s and 30s will advance like fucking crazy when introduced to lifting in their 80s.

Guys who lifted a few years, went on a break longer than they lifted and then lift again, won't get shit.

'Muscle memory' is the broscience way of saying 'large number of nuclei in your muscle cells left over from sattelite cells merging to repair damaged muscle'
If you were physically active for 15-20 years, you'll get a lot faster muscle protein synthesis, since you have a lot more nuclei to send out mRNA.

If you lifted for 3 years and got to a good squat and an OK bench press you propably didn't accumulate enough nuclei to matter.

i have 5k right now in stocks. i want to have a 3k budget for a home gym; just need to buy a home first! (19 y.o in uni rn)

I want everything brand new ( i know its cheaper to get stuff on kijiji) but im a bit picky.
so far ive come up with a shopping cart on rogue:
axle bar
deadlift bar
400 lb steel plates
wallmount rack
wallmount bar holder

that comes to 2100 dollars. just need to get an adjustable bench (ill find that on kijiji; theyre way overpriced on rogue). i already have dumbells and bands, etc.

anyone have any advice on making a home gym? experiences, pros and cons?

I just made mine out of wood in the garage. I got everything including pullup bar and dip bar and 6 plates (and 100 pounds in smaller plates) for around 700.

Amazon is usually pretty cheap. I was getting the plates for 25 bucks when they sold out after I bought 3 for 50

The only downside if you can call it that is you have to go since it's right fucking there

I made my home gym for less than $400
I have 2 oly bars, an adjustable bench, two squat stands that have bench press height attachments, and 180 lbs of cast iron plates (I will buy more when needed)
Plus I bought some proper shoes
I have only been lifting for about 6 weeks so it was a small investment compared to spending $30 a month for a gym membership, after a year or so I would have paid the cost of my home gym and not have to pay any more
plus the weights are always available and I don't ever have to deal with people in a public gym

Hello guys i have been training for about 3 years with 5-6 day split routine. I have heard that training each body part twice a week is going to work better for natty lifters...so i made 4 day program: Mon(upper)/Thu(Lower) Wed (rest) Thu(upper) Fri (Lower) do you think it will work better?

How far did you run over the weekend, /fit/?

you... do... run on your rest days, right? well you do cardio as well as weights... right?

Anyway, i ran between 13 and 14 kilometers, my work out diary is in my car. I run in 5 minute intervals and do body-weight or stretching in between them

But that makes actual difference. Cardio is cardio, only real difference running has over brisk walks is it takes slightly less time. Also walking doesn't require special clothes and shoes.

Is there any point in doing a workout that doesn't use a barbell?

Seems like a great way to get an asymmetrical physique.

I'm in the process of fixing my bigger right side, bigger right back, bigger right shoulder and tricep. I'll never do anything but symmetrical barbell workouts ever again.

My left arm is still bigger and stronger than my right after 6 months of barbell training. Pretty sure it's because I jerked off so much solely with my left arm even though I'm right handed. I don't think many people notice but I do and it sucks.

I can feel it while doing bench and ohp, right side is working way harder to catch up
