I have a masters in Chemical Engineering with some project management experience but got rejected from hundreds of jobs I applied to this year between March to August, with the most cited reason being that "I didn't seem to show any interest or enthusiasm for the job".

Any advice?

I just saw this movie tonight and it got me interesting in finding gaps in the market or niche markets..

What is the best way to go about doing this? It doesn't have to be anything on a huge scale like the guys in this movie, but how to find things you would never think of? It never crossed my mind until I saw the movie that the US government was asking people to supply them with weapons, you just assume they would source it all themselves.

So what are some good ways to identify potential niche market opportunities?

Look at the back end, like manufacturing (closer to raw materials the better) and waste disposal.

The media never talks much about trivial parts alloy die cast zippers, but you look at a high end sports coat or a cheap pair of pants and they gotten, so somebody got paid to make'em and ship'em. You dig and you find you can go into a universe of rabbit holes my friend. Like the good old soda can patent wars, make tech companies like Apple look nice.

I love this stuff, and could go on for hours. (didn't see the movie, not my style)

But it really annoys me how many people say "well go make it happen" like I am some magical bill gates. An Esty level business is never going to work as fools flood the market, and the big boys have connections and millions in supporting infrastructure I just don't have.

so trips, there is really no niche that isn't filled or that won't be filled. if you manage to find one and start a business in it you will have to pay your dues to much richer people ( jews ) or else they will destroy you and your company through various methods.

my advice is either be part of the system
>inb4 conspiracy nut
or do what >>1460273 said, look for endeavours dealing with more raw material rather than finite producs, but that will require more cash to invest, and sell your business before rich investors destroy it and buy it for a dirt cheap price

Does anyone here have any experience with rental properties, house flipping, or being a landlord? I'm looking down the road at my career and saving my money now because this is a path I feel I really want to go down.

Pic somewhat related. I feel like creating this type of aesthetic allows you to mark up rentals or houses for sale really high compared to what it actually costs to achieve this type of look. A goal of mine someday is to buy an old building and turn it into luxury loft-style apartments. It seems like people will pay a premium for exposed brick, exposed electrical and ventilation, big windows, that sort of thing...

>>
nah
converted lofts are always located downtown, you can't find any cool old industrial buildings elsewhere
no one with any money to afford that wants to live downtown, gentrification is a media lie and white flight is still in full effect
that's why i was surprised to find all these lofts cost roughly the same or less than typical apartments in the surrounding suburbs

Tell me how to get rich quick. Or at least make a living wage with a low time commitment. I am willing to do anything except break the law. I will scam, I will swindle, I will debase myself, I will do anything. Have 1000 bucks startup. I feel scammed by college and I need to break free of this prison. Rate my idea:
Kiosks/Stands in busy malls and high streets, that allow people to drop shopping off at the stand and have it delivered WHERE they want, WHEN they want.
Selling on the basis of "Buy now, deliver later" (for example, people who have busy schedules can buy what they want early in the day, drop it with us, then have it delivered on demand).
You could even sign contracts with small shops in the area and give them a delivery service (once you get a decent fleet of drivers), you can take like 10% of a sale from the small shop and then get the money from the customer for the delivery (however much that may be) and then when the shopping is packed, you pick it up from the small shop and deliver it when the customer requested.

You can expand and end up having like 20 kiosks is 20 locations, each one building a network of businesses whom you deliver for.
If someone buys something and wants it gift wrapped and sent to a friends house (for a birthday or something), that can also be done.

If someone wants to have a meal, delivered fresh to his office when it's his lunch time, he can have that done.

If it gets big enough you can expand to digital on demand services, and potentially sign contracts with even bigger shops, to deliver for them.

I can also imagine that the holiday seasons will treat a business like this very well.
>>
>>1459808

why bother with kiosks instead of online?

Hey /biz/
I have been considering investing my money in obligations. This morning a guy from my bank called me and asked if I wanted to do something with my money.
I have zero experience with buying obligations and such and I'm just 20 years old. Should I just let him invest for me or will i get ripped? Btw I'm from Denmark so it's not like the bank guy is super corrupt but I'm still suspicious

If you don't understand it, don't buy it. That's a good rule for investing.

If I understand correctly he's suggesting you buy 'Bonds'. And without looking it up, if I remember correctly interest rates on Bonds are pretty shit in Northern European countries at the moment, you may make slightly more than a term-deposit though so you'd be better off.

Shop around. See what other banks are offering -- I mean if they are government bonds they'll be the same. But see what it compares to what you're earning on your savings at the moment.

Anyone got any ideas of how I can use my Facebook page for profit? I have a large page (not that big, but big for the area, I live in a small country town). It has over 6,000 fans all from the area so I know that all these fans aren't far away.
Any ideas to what I can do to make money from it? I guess I could open a restaurant or something and immediately have a large advertisement platform from the area, but I don't really have the bank to do that....

What stops people from buying into dips of stocks and selling after their inevitable rebound?Doing this in whatever time frame necessary to get your money back or at least break even minimizes your risk of loss and you'll at least make something right?

cause what happens if there are several dips

you going to buy every single one? as the stock continues to plummet not only do you have to buy the dip, you have to double down, triple down to ever even hope to make money cause RARELY does a stock rebound to prefirst dip prices atleast in the short term
>>
>>1459736
Under the presumed scenario you'd still be doing your own research on stocks and taking your best chances.
>>
>>1459740
people only have so much money to throw at something unless you have unlimited funds

heres a scenario

>have 20,000
>put 2000 into stock A, put 8000 into other stocks
>oh no! stock A dipped!
>ill buy the dip! pour another $2000 into stock A

>it dipped again!
>pour another 2000 into it!
>hmm, i only have $6000 left, i wanna buy other stocks
>put 6000 into other stocks

>stock A DIPPED AGAIN?
>oh no! i sunk 6 grand into it! do i put more money into it? but that would require dipping into my savings account...

>it dips again
>it dips again

When did you decide to stop voluntarily giving away your income to the IRS? Was it when you realized the IRS can't legally tax income?

Pro tip: You can't prove me wrong unless you cite the statutes and regulations that punish not paying income or filing returns.

Proprotip: those statutes and regulations don't exist.

Protip: Peter Schiff's dad got sent to the slammer for not refusing to pay federal income tax. Statutes and regulations mean fuckall. The big dick of the IRS will continue to stretch the ass of our bank accounts until we see a full scale revolution. But I dont think there will ever be a country on the face of this earth that doesn't have an income tax ever again.
>>
>>1459723
For not refusing? explain pls.

You're pretty much good if you shield your assets from the IRS and offer full payment on conditions if you receive a notice from them. The conditions being they provide evidence that you are liable for income tax. In the index of the IRC it lists liability for taxes and income is not one of them.

I think Irwin's problem was that he filed forms like the W4. Those forms are for waiving your rights and confessions the government will use against you in any way they can. You can't be forced by law to submit a W4 because the only employees subject to withholding are resident aliens and foreign corporations.

Hello /biz/
Yes, another book recommendation thread. But, I'm hoping we can narrow the scope to books promoting personal management as well as management theories in the work environment.

Most of the book topics I've seen on here are about building financial knowledge and wealth, but I'm looking more for books about building knowledge on topics such as emotional intelligence, time management, communication techniques etc.

Clear as mud? Hopefully my narrative makes sense! Cheers.

Not trying to dissuade anyone from reading books, but I think for the kind of stuff you're talking about the best practice is... well to practice.

I actually would suggest for the emotional intelligence and communication stuff, take up an acting class for a couple of months. It'll help you work on your body language, your diction and vocal projection, but also one thing they teach you in acting is how to really analyze language, and play with something. You can take the same sentence, the same words and make it mean many different things.

As for time management:
>GTD by David Allen
I haven't read it but I've seen a lot of his lectures and it's light on the pseudo-science.

>7 Habits of Highly Effective People
Read part of it, it's full of fluff. the main take outs for me were:
>Always think in terms of mutual benefit instead of competitively
>"Keep Sharpening the saw", whatever your skill set is, don't let it get rusty, constantly be working on it and improving it.
This is a good insight:
>"You can find a clue to whether you now have the proactive habit by looking at how you speak. Do you find yourself using these expressions? “That’s the way I am.” There’s nothing I can do about it. “He makes me so mad!” My emotional life is outside my control. “I have to do it.” I’m not free to choose my own actions. For all of us, there are many things that concern us that we can’t do anything about, for now. But there are also things we can do. Proactive people work on their circle of influence - the people and things they can reach - and spend less energy on their much wider circle of concern. By keeping their focus on their circle of influence, they actually extend its area. As you become more proactive, you will make mistakes"
>>
File: 7Habits.png (34KB, 300x308px) Image search: [Google]
7Habits.png
34KB, 300x308px
I also forgot, for emotional intelligence look into:
Transactional Analysis by Eric Berne

Interesting little book that seems to over simplify human nature into a series of games, and three archetypes: Adult, Parent, Child. It's really useful tool to think of certain situations, and once you start reading the book you'll start seeing these situations appear all the time.

>>1459851
Now having said this, I suck, SUCK at time management so if anyone can suggest something that gives some workable techniques, I'd be very grateful.

Where I think I failed to gain anything from GTD was because I can't prioritize.
GTD is great if you know what you want to do, and by "know" I mean "know how" you will do it step by step. It has great advice like:
>"Anything you can finish in the next 2 minutes, do it NOW"

But the bigger picture stuff, prioritizing is where it was of no help.
And this is also where 7 Habits failed to help me, it's got this great thing about quadrants.
However, deciding urgency, evaluating if something needs my attention now or if it can wait is where I just fail horribly.

>Sorry for the blog. But this is my personal experience with this literature, your mileage may vary.

Hey,

I am meeting a potentional investor in my company that I started 2 year ago. The company is basically a brand of health food, I distribute the products to various retailer chains in my country.

What type of questions should I expect? How should I prepare myself for the meeting (besides preparing a comprehensive presentation of my company products, etc.)? Any other tips?

I got a question for the employers on this board;

Let's say you got this really slacker employee. You suspect he might be using drugs, so you run a drug test on your entire staff.

The slacker tests positive for weed and is subsequently dealt with, but at the same time your most model employee tests positive for all kinds of nasty things. Amphetamine, cocaine, the lot. There's never been a single issue with this guy, he's always on time and does his job correctly the first time, but he clearly has a habit of partying hard when he's off duty.

What do you do with him?

No, I don't do drugs, nor face a drug test as I don't live in a corporate police state. This is just a hypothetical scenario that I'm curious how employers would handle.

>corporate police state
Does what is best for the corporate police state. It was all initiated to get rid of the slacker so they get rid of the slacker weedman and keep the meth head or whatever.
Better yet, replace the lot with third world immigrants on work visas, or best, outsource the entire operation to China.
>>
>>1459656
The police state thing was more meant as a point of exaggeration to solidify my personal opinion on drug screening, but okay.
>>
>>1459653
Fire the slacker and sweep the other one under the rug. If its simply an excuse.

Personally I think employers shouldn't be able to do drug tests unless its for safety and then it should be on the site swaps not piss tests.
