Hey guys.
23yo here, just graduated w a degree in acc and finance, got my first full time job and I'm trying to figure out how I wanna start investing.
My goal is to maximize growth/reinvesting dividends, and Im are willing to take on enough risk for a 6-8% return while avoiding shit like junk bonds. I would want my assets allocated somewhere along the lines of:
10% cash
30% bonds, half coporate, half govt
60% equity, half domestic, half foreign (emerging markets)
I've thought about dumping money into a 1.1ß growth fund, but I dunno if that provides enough diversity.
I guess my question is this: are the management fees incurred by professionally developed portfolios worth it? If so, how do you choose between vanguard/fidelity etc?
Also why pay mgt fees for index funds instead if just getting an etf?
Do you live in the UK or US?

Is the CFA better than a masters? Experience is of course more valuable than both but if you're on a budget, and don't have any experience, is the CFA a good place to start in breaking into the investment banking industry?
Having obtained a 2:1 in Business Management from a high to mid tier British University, my plan was to get the CFA level 1 this June, taking advantage of the multiple networking events offered along the way, and then target internship and graduate programs for 2018.
Is this a decent strategy or am I wasting my time /biz/
>>1752650
As someone who failed CFA lvl2 many times, I can tell you education is great if you can afford to pay someone to hold your hand while you do it. At some point you'll either pass or get old and stop caring. I'm posting on 4chan guess which one I am
>>1752689
Is it that much harder? Most of the material I studied at University. However I guess the difficulty lies in the breath and depth, but also the balance of life with studying. I've left my shitty job to focus on this and start a paper account to develop my understanding of the markets. Are you still working whilst studying anon?
>>1752650
I got my charter after passing L3 in June. It's probably more respected within a narrower range of jobs, but there are a lot of people who have never heard of it.
I don't have a masters so I can't really compare the two in terms of difficulty, but from what I have heard most people seem to think CFA is "harder". I have always been a good test taker so fortunately I didn't fail at all, but they are certainly the most difficult tests I have ever taken. There isn't any material that I would consider extremely difficult conceptually, so the difficulty really comes from the sheer amount you need to remember for each exam.

They invest your unsettled funds after a trade. It's also pretty basic shit.
> When is it coming to my country?
Never. They only have "plans" on an Australian beta.
> It's been X days, why isn't my account verified yet?
If it takes more than 3 days, email their support. They are very good.
> Is this the place to pump and dump and/or shill a worthless stock?
NO! THIS IS 4CHAN, A PLACE OF POLITENESS AND PROFESSIONALISM!!!
> I hit sell when the stock was X.XX, but it actually sold at a lower price, am I being jewed?
No, that would actually be illegal. Robinhood graphs are just shit and only show you an average, not-really-realtime price. To get Bid/Ask prices and important things like candlestick graphs, you should use a more robust platform. -- (also learn difference between LIMIT and MARKET orders!!!)
> Where can I get better charting or bid/ask?
thinkorswim is bretty gud if you want a 2nd account with real broker.
Otherwise you should be using stockcharts.com, finviz, or a non-pile-of-shit for your graphing in addition to Robinhood.
>How do I git gud?
Search for press releases. Don't listen to any advice in this thread.
> Can I use Robinhood on my PC?
Yes, download an android emulator

Hey guys,
I'm disabled and can't stand for long. This is a recent development in my life. Previously i did manual labor and sales jobs. I am not overweight.
I have a HS diploma but no college education.
Im very smart, love problem solving, great at sales, love efficiency and simplicity.
Problem is that i cant get hired because of not being able to stand long.
Any desk jobs in my area require a college degree.
Any suggestions?
Seems like you have three choices:
Either get some sort of qualification that allows you to get an office job, move to an area where you don't need a degree for office jobs (most places) or work from home somehow.
Depending on where you live you might also be entitled to disability benefits.
>>1752531
I would love to work with home. Maybe building something cool.
Im good with tools. Dont know what would make me money though.
>>1752537
Give it a go. It's easier than ever to make money from home. Making a living is not going to be easy though.
What do you do exactly? If you do carpentry or something you could open a workshop I guess.
Why are we still living in our countries instead of moving to this promised land of opportunity?
>>1752511
Why don't people go to the mountains and plains to start tech/finance companies? The infrastructure is good enough. Rent is a fraction what it would cost on the coasts.
But there's nobody there. If you wanted to start a company there, you'd have to convince a bunch of talented people to move to Nebraska or Wyoming. There are going to be some talented people already there, but for the most part you won't be able to compete with an already established talent base in NYC or the Bay Area.

Dude there's literally 0 capital gains tax in Puerto Rico.
>>1752553
you are literally incapable of literal literacy.
Which degree is the greater ROI: engineering or law?
Law can be a massive failure for many, it's oversaturated
>>1752483
engineering + law + finance = gg
whatever you're good at and actually passionate about is guaranteed to be profitable in one way or another
asking yourself which major has better ROI is setting yourself up for mediocrity.
So after being a fuck-up for the last several years, I'm trying to get my act together and find a decent job.
I've had a bunch of jobs over the years that have each lasted for a year or so...how do I fit all that experience onto a resume? I don't think all of them would be relevant to a job I would be looking for, is it ok to have a couple gaps in my resume, and then explain them in an interview? I don't think I can physically fit all of my jobs into one page.
>>1752442
I'm sure a 10pt bullet point list/timeline would fit
just elaborate on the relevant ones.

At my level it would be industrial espionage, for everything else I can just ask.

>just sold my house
>moved back in with parents
>currently have ~$52,000 in bank
>make ~$40,000 a year after taxes
>have no debt
I am tired of living paycheck to paycheck which is why I sold my house. I am still young and want to make something of my life. I am not looking to become a millionaire, I just want to live comfortably as a middle class American citizen. How do I use this money to make more money?
>>1752380
Moving back in with your mom is not an accomplishment
Put it in an index fund or rental property. Then pretend you are broke. Then go get a job and work.
Not sure what else you were expecting in terms of am answer.
>have assessment centre for graduate job at a prestigious public sector department (Hint: they print money)
>will be surrounded by posh normie clones being interviewed by their slightly older clones
>will be judged solely on my ability to fake normieness
>will have an interview and two grouo exercises (they barely give a shit about your objective performance, only how you come across)
>failed countless interviews before because I'm not a normie
How do I finally not fail? They literally give easy as fuck tasks and judge you only on normieness.
>>1752360
when they reject you ask for specific reasons why.
then sue them for discriminating against you based on your disability.
>>1752360

Would it be worth mentioning in my CV that I can bench 130kg (about 290lbs) and run 100m under 12 seconds?
I figured why not, since people also like to mention if they run marathons and in what time etc.
>>1752312
Does the job require you to do that?
then no
i'm your boss and i can bench 350
>>1752312
Its a good way to give employers a laugh before they trash your resume.
Unless its one of the very few jobs that information could actually be relative too.

If you pander to gays and women sure. They love shitty erotic books.
I met someone who wrote mysteries. He made about 20k per year on it, but to get to that, he had to hire translators to get his stuff published in many languages
